  • if you dislike this, i am going to kill you!

  • It seems that this piece is for violin only

  • best cello-version on youtube!

  • few minor intonation issues but nonetheless still a bloody good job

  • very beautiful. great cellist

  • I am learning it on cello! I can play the first 37 measures or up to 2:37

  • @blackhearts8 i really want to see that.. but remember to play the music, and not only finger notes on tempo

  • This was made for cello that's why

  • BRAVO!!!

  • This goes to show that if he can play this close to perfectly in tune, than there is no excuse for bad intonation ever. This is a performance that should inspire us all to do our very best work. Bravo

  • Wow on a cello amazing. This is the most difficult piece to play on ANY instrument you try it with.

  • @snakeinthegrass20 Piano wouldn't be too technically difficult, though.

  • Look at those fingers move! Amazing!

  • I fully understand that everyone who plays an instrument and knows this piece has the great desire to play it, I'm not an exception - but I'm a little bit afraid that the piece is beeing killed when played on every imaginable instrument.

  • Everything this man does is perfect.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG?!?!?! he plays it SO SICK!!!

  • Imre Kalman rules!!!

  • Isn't it from the movie Cello ? But there it's called Rainy Melody. Anyway... Amazing °-°

  • @LunaFiona1998 The first time I heard it was in that movie too! It's originally for the violin, but I absolutely adore it on Cello.

  • @LiliKoblentz Yes, me too :D On Cello it sounds so sad

  • WOW ! ....fantastic....i love this piece and i want to play it on cello too....if someone has the score-sheet music...for cello...please please please please ..i need it !!! Send a message if anyone has it...please !

  • @RomaineRC funny you say it - I´m thinkin the opposit

  • @RomaineRC

Maybe it depends on how you first heard it? I first heard it on cello and prefer it much more to the violin. Personally, it's a little ....jumpy? for my tastes, but I much prefer the tonal quality on cello.

  • @LiliKoblentz i first heard it on violin, but prefer cello.. well, i play cello

but a friend who plays viola has seen it on violin, viola, cello, and flute, and also prefers this recording on cello

for me it is cello>flute>viola>dogs bark>violin

  • @ericoschmitt This piece on flute - that would interest me. Do you have access to a transcription for flute? I would like to know how to get it.

  • @tasteism @ericoschmitt google for arrangement by Kamioka. there are others, but basically you have to transpose it from D minor to G minor (1 flat for 2 flats) and then d major for G major

and i guess kamioka has added rests for breathing in the middle of arpeggios.

other option is to read directly from violin score, but pretending theres a C clef on second line (exactly where the G clef is) and change the key to G minor.

  • came here expecting it to sound better on a cello... BUT ITS HORRIBLE. YUK!!!

  • He is a great cellist!!!!!!

  • Breathtaking. Thank you.

  • best chaconne i've heard was played by Hillary Hahn on Violin, i've been looking for a version on Cello and this is awesome :D, though a little jumpy but i guess the cello is a lot harder to play

  • Absolutely breathtaking. Bach's Chaconne has enjoyed (or suffered) almost every treatment for almost any instrument imaginable- there is even transcription for flute solo- but to try it on violin's dear big brother the cello is relatively rare, perhaps owing to it's monumental difficulty. Just to undertake this endeavor is already something to savor, not to mention the musical depth reached here!

  • Oh my god...

  • I really love this song, and also the cello. It fits perfect. Thank you a lot for sharing this piece.

  • Vielen Dank, Imre.

Ich habe Dein Website gesehen und Deinen

Tchaikovsky gehoert. Ich war beeindruckt von Deiner Interpretation, welche das subtile Leiden der Seele widergab, wie es meiner Meinung nach immer in seiner Musik sein sollte.

Alles Gute fuer Dich und Dein Cello

    Tanya

  • I think the dark shady character of the chaconne fits the cello well. It's so compelling.

  • @animeaff Much better than for violin!

  • what the...

  • HOLY FUCK, THIS GUY IS THE BEST.. my mouth was open from the first second to the last!!!!!!!!

it's even more beautiful than it is in the violin!!! (im suspicious to say, i play cello haha)

  • he's amazing... *o*

  • He puts lots of emotion into his music and seems to enjoy playing every single second of it... His vibrato is perfect too. <3 I envy his talent.

  • Én Zentai vagyok ő is abba az iskolába járt mint most én és eljöt hozzánk elődást tartani ezt a zemét adta először elő :)

  • what the hell was that at 2:11??

  • hehehe

  • @JumpDiffusion oh, that has just ruined it all.. i dont like it anymore!!! :P

  • @JumpDiffusion i know right? haha, shocked me too

  • @JumpDiffusion I think he accidentally played the harmonic on the d-natural - it happens, maybe his finger wasn't all the way down

  • Fantastico!!!!!! Semplicemente Fantastico....

    Grazie! Roberto.

  • Your Chaconne is really fantastic beyond my expressin!

It is a great dream for me to let my grand-son play it how long it may take.

Would you be kind enough to let me know where I can get the transcription of the music score through personal message

    in 'Inbox'?

Or if you can get and send it for me I will let you know my address for which of course I can pay beforehand,

    Thank you for your cooperation.

  • toca demais esse camarada ai

  • This is awesome- we need more people to expand the repertoire of the cello-- i was thinking of doing things like couperins les barricades mysterieux,

or some of the bach two part inventions etc./. the sky is the limit to add new repertoire...the bach suites are awesome but there are many lute or guitar peices that would work well on cello!

    great playing Kalman!!

  • Oh this is really amazing. I love bach's chaconne, and i love the cello, so it s the gratest .... really sounds grat, i love it!

  • for my taste it sounds a bit forced and un-natural for the instrument but I can understand why one would want to play this piece

  • Yes I think the same, you shoul listen the Johan Kim's version. It's uploadodes on youtube.

  • Do you know where I could get the sheet music for the cello transcription of this piece? Please message me.

  • ist er Jude?

  • Kedves Imre!

Köszönöm az élményt!! Valóban remekmű az alkotásod és a játékod! Gratulálok!

  • As a fellow cellist, I have to say this is most impressive. I love Bach and you have beautifully captured the essence and intensity needed to tackle such a piece. Granted we all have room for improvement, I could not imagine being able to perform this piece in the least degree.

  • Celli have no E-String

  • see ? what did I tell you.

  • Thank you for this.

  • i would love to tackle this song on guitar

  • I know it by heart on guitar... pretty much my artistic peak in my life

  • lucky mo fo

  • He playswith a lot of intensity, but some parts feel kinda jerky or mechanical. Theviolin versions by heifetz, perlman, and hillary are far smother.

  • Wow, coming from a violinist who knows how difficult this piece is to play on a violin, I have utmost respect for anyone merely capable of playing this piece on cello, never mind creating the emotion portrayed here. Stunning and a true achievement. I don't think a lot of people realise how immensely difficult this piece must be on cello.

  • I think I'd never need to do anything else in my life than to learn to play this piece.

  • You are right. Me too.

  • What do you play: Violin, guitar, or piano?

  • Ich spiele Schlong

  • Nicht sprechen zie Deutsch.

  • Amazing

  • Hay tipos que nos dedicamos a mucha cosa y hacemos todo mas o menos. Otros se dedican a una sola y lo hacen bien y la vida vale la pena . bine por Bach y por este pibe !!

  • yesterday a listened him perform this piece, and it was amazing.

  • Breathtaking performance! Most of the cellists have no idea how hard this piece is, probably they will never be able to play it anyway. We must appreciate these rare performances. Bravo Maestro Kalman!

  • even more haunting on the cello...

  • wtf the place where hes playing , lol... but he plays good

  • a bit emocionless though.

  • Agreed...

  • sorry about the two identical comments it wasnt posting them when i refreshed so i worte it twice sorry everyone...

  • I read somewhere this is just an octave lower than the original for violin so i checked it against concert versions on violin and in fact it is.. So ill just take the violin transcription and place it in the base clef. shar doesnt have this for cello i checked.

  • i read somewhere this is just an octave lower than the original in d minor for violin. so i checked it against concert pitch with viloin and it in fact is- so should be easy to just take the original violin version and place it in the base clef -then just edit it for cello-maybe raise or lower a note here and there an octave- etc.. should be easy- I cant find a transcribed version- so i will have to Do- it -myself. Shar doesnt have a cello version i checked.

  • The tough part is that you dont have an E string like the violin. I must be easier on a five string cello. I heard that Alexander Rudin uses one on his recording.

  • Alexander Rudin on Naxos as part of his complete bach suites - it's fanstastic

  • Rudin has an extra string I believe in that recording to make it easier!? or at least i thought he did anyway.

  • Not really to make it easier - he has the string because it is necessary for the 6th cello suite (if you want to play it exactly the way Bach wrote it). I guess he wanted to do more with it - after all 5 string cellos aren't cheap to get made!

Anyway - extra string or not it's a beautiful recording, worth checking out.

  • agreed- ill listen to the whole version..is there anything on youtube?

  • Wow!!! What a wonderful job on a difiicult & beautiful piece! If the music is available please let me know. Again, GREAT JOB!!!

  • anyone know where i can get this trasncription?...geezuz i would hate to have to transcribe the damn thing- had a hard enough time with the goldbergs transcribing is tedious at best-- but i am going to do piece this in my third year recital...hope someone has a copy

  • Excellent !!!!! The arpeggios part especially is awesome !

  • О, Да!!! переложил как надо.

  • O my Gosh!!!!! wow

  • Chaconne on cello.. amazing, i love it.

  • Csodálatos

  • Wow! Brilliant!!! Only the bravest of violinists dare tackle this piece. I can only imagine how more technically demanding and challenging this is arranged for cello. Well done!

  • Very Impressive! Bravo!!

  • I am truely going to start playing the cello, as soon as I finally save up for one (which is soon) seeing this inspires me even more to continue in learning.

  • It is.... unbelievable.... impressive!!

  • You are amazing!! I wish you were teaching and playing in New York. I could use some lessons to be as good as you are.

  • Wow! Bravo!!!

  • Is this the only solo cello recording of this piece on youtube?

  • wonderful performance, it is always a pleasure to watch chaconne

  • OMG!! He's really amazing! I've never seen this piece played by cello before.. and this is much more wonderful that i'd imagined...

  • I'm impressed. He stayed in the key it was written in even though the Cello's strings are a fifth lower than the violin. I'm very glad to have heard this.

  • he teaches at my academy : )

  • i kept on trying to post the link to werner icking, but it didnt work cuz youtube blocks links :O

  • Dang I've been looking forever for the sheet music for this piece and it is SO hard to find. Grr.

  • tell me when and where you found it i really want 2 play this piece 2.

  • In the Werner Icking Music Archive you will find all the sonatas & partitas transposed for cello (in a superb edition)

  • do they have a web site that i could buy this music frm?

  • i mean that i know where the web site is its just so confusing 2 get the music i dont know how 2 get it

  • Its enough that you google "icking sei solo cello".

Then, you will see all the Bach available scores -included the cello version of the soli-. The list goes by catalogue number (the partite are BWV 1001-1006). You will need the Edited Version for Violoncello.

All the files are free .pfds. So, you only need a printer

  • I only see it for violin and viola. I could transpose it but that would take SO long for me. *confused*

  • When you arrive to the Bach's page in the Icking Archive, you will find:

BWV 1001-1006: Sei solo à Violino senza basso accompagnato

Complete edition image by Werner Icking

Sonatas and Partitas for Violin Solo either as Urtext-edition image info or edited for violin or viola or violoncello

  • oh yeah, sorry. lol...I found the sheet music like RIGHT after you sent the previous comment.

    Thanks!

  • tyvm

  • that other dude was right! this is definitely the best piece composed by Bach!..... in my opinion. lol

  • the chords are too hard

  • YOUUUU

  • lol

  • do you hav the sheet music for this on cello?

  • 2:11*

  • I know! What happened there?!

  • aww 2:13 squeak

  • Awesome.

  • The acoustics sound absolutely incredible there... mind boggling musician

  • One of the hardest pieces for violin played so very very very well on cello, my god

  • Comment removed

  • maiarho = No position to criticize. QQ.

  • ROFL DID YOU SEE THAT AT 6:21? Kalman's got discipline. Hot.

  • Wow, you're right! I wasn't sure what to expect when I saw your comment, but that was out of this world!

  • Impressive...

  • oh my, how his hands must have hurt.

  • This is the most remarkable cello video of the past years that I have ever seen. There is only one point - and that might even make things easier: Some passages don't have to be played that fast on a bass instrument. Taking more time, doing more dynamics, playing some passages more expressively - instead of trying to prove that it can be played as if the cello were a violin. Changing some small musical details could make this recording a century recording.

  • Wow, this is so good. Chaconne is one of my favorite pieces. I never imagined it would be this great on the cello.

  • Impossible? What about the Edgar Meyer recording?

  • IT sounds like he's playing in the original key. Thats pretty amazing. Thats almost as hard as playing the cello suites in the original key and octave on the bass.

  • Well the thing is it's impossible to play bach cello suite perfectly on the bass (tone, shifting, etc). Otherwise to make it sound decent, this piece for the cello is more demanding.

  • Does anyone know where to find this version in sheet music?

  • I like it a lot, it's one of the most beautiful music ever written... also difficult...

I recommend Tanya Anisimova's version for my is a lot deeper interpretation, unfortunately there is not a video only a CD recording...

  • Fuck, is very good.

  • One of the most beautifull cellist I ever heard. Perfect technique, intonation, beautifull sound and marvellous musician without any manners. His playing reminds me to Heifetz. I wonder wy Mr. Kalman is not yet a wordfamous artist.

Ernesto Mampaey, once Leader of the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra

  • Beautiful! is the transcripcion of Paul Tortelier?

  • No!Tortelier`s version omitted a lot of notes!

He plays the original version by Bach written for violin solo!

  • Bravo!

  • Te musik is ter. Don't chu liscten to ikt?

  • Comment removed

  • Nem rossz.

  • Finally, a cello version of this song, thanks for uploading!

  • Incredible! The best cellist I have ever heard!!
