By the way: I don't know what you reward him with, but try to find something he'd do EVERYTHING for. Preferrably mean like a cut up hot-dog or some turkey (no pig-meat, it's bad for the dog!). Dogs also love cheese a lot. Try to use really tiny bits so he won't get bored with it that quickly. And as I said, focus on keeping the paw up at first by rewarding that A LOT and connecting it to the limp command the way you were doing, but hold the paw while you reward! Be patient. Good luck!! :D
thank you! I have decided to take a week or so off from the trick just so she has forgotten about it a bit then I am going to start over and go reeeeaaaallllyyy slow with it. I appreciate everyones help! Maybe with a nice fresh start and a new approach, Lilly will be able to get the hang of it. I am going to use boiled chicken since she LOOOVVVEEESSS that! I will post it when she achieves it! :)
As I said, click A LOT in the beginning and reward EVERY SINGLE TIME at first. Also click & connect 'limp' to the behaviour when you are STILL HOLDING his paw, try to find a way to do this multiple times while helping him. Don't go too fast, since this can actually take weeks, but your dog seems smart so make it extra fun and play & reward a bit more after a good training session. Walking is another fase and can come after like, two weeks and he's getting the hang of it.
You might also want to read my comments if you have the same problem. I don't know if they're worth much but it might just help that tiny bit. Be really patient and just focus on keeping the paw up at first, and reward while you are still keeping the paw up! Don't release it.
From what I see here, there is a lack of connection as it relates to the training of the actual trick. It's clear that you are very bonded with your dog, that needs to spill over into your training. Show me some genuine love during training. This trick can take weeks and weeks to teach. You're doing well:)
thank you. Oh, yes, I am very close, everyone says I'm obsessed, you should see my off camera.lol I have tried and usually do, like make it really fun, in this vido, I was just kinda doing it, to show it. Thank you.
But what do I need to do to get his muscle memory? I think I am giving him to much support while teaching this, Do I need to give him less support on his paw? And thank you for the reply, and encouragement. :)
what I also think is going wrong, as I THINK you are trying to say when the "Think I should have clicked here" text pops up:
You don't click at the right time. From what I saw, you let go of his paw, and THEN clicked. So it's REWARDED that the paw is put down.
Try to hold the clicker in the other hand. What I see you doing, is you hold the treat in one hand, hold your paw with the other, which also holds the clickker - correct me if I'm wrong.
Try to hold the clicker in the other hand, and click when you're holding his paw up at first. Don't be too shy when it comes to rewarding in the first stages. Click, before you release the paw. Then release. You can take a minute to get the snack, because he already knows the clicker means, something good is coming. Try to click and reward multiple times in one go. And don't go too fast, just holding up the paw is enough, start walking later!
haha but, I never meant to click in the video. It was a mistake but I just put i don't think I should have, b/c just in case I was and I didn't want ppl. judging. But anyways. My problem is, that I can't get him to actually hold the paw up himself. What do I need to do for that?
if you have any tips I would Greatly appreciate it.

Great, out of characters.
