  • Need to know how to work lists any help

  • @sdo212 I sent you a link to some instructional material.

  • example1(16-8X+X^2 = (4-X)^2).........

    example2(a^2+4a+4 =(a+2)^2)...............

    example3(2X^2-8X-8 =2(X-2)^2)..............

so my question was regarding the texas 89 polynom function, does texas 89 have similiar function just like TI-NSpire's polyPSG?

i also rewrote my examples since they totaly messed up when i posted them here

  • @UnExZeRo Yeah, the TI-89 can do this. It's called the factor function under the algebra menu. For your first example, here is what you would do from the home screen: F2 > 2 > 16-8x+x^2,x) > enter. The output will be (x-4)^(2).

  • do you know how to make a residual plot?

  • @astrid943 I sent you some information on plotting residuals via message.

  • If I want ex. 9/2 to be asnwered in 4,5 (decimal) and not 9/2 (factor) how do I do to set it standard because its not to great to set it to approx( every time... -.-'

  • @FeA37HD Yeah, I know that can be irritating. Simply press Mode, and scroll down to where it says "Exact/Approximate." Here, choose approximate.

  • @ultimatemath Thank youu!!!<3

  • @ultimatemath This means the world to me because Ive just recenly started with more advanced math and maybe went a little over board getting one of the best calculators out there! (we were asked to get Texas). And apperently this calculator is nothing that my teacher knows of, so i have to taught myself! (sorry for bad english, im swedish! :))

  • @FeA37HD Well, I'm glad to help! Thanks for watching.

  • how can i plot a line of best by entering a data table of x and y values and then graphing both the points and the line of best fit?

  • @rotvalo What you want is a linear regression. Press the Apps button and select "Stats/Lists Editor." Create a new data list and name it how you like. After you press enter, enter the x values in the first column and the y values in the second column. Press F4, then 3, then 1. For the x-list, enter the name of the first column. For the y-list, enter the name of the second column. Where it says "Store RegEq to:", select y1(x). Then press enter, and it will give you the best fit line.

  • @rotvalo After that, press the green diamond key and F3 to graph it.

  • is there a way to erase all previous entered equations without pressing back or clear 30 times?

  • @chidori8291 That's a great question! Yes, to clear all entries at once, press F1 and then select number 8 (clear home).

  • @ultimatemath how can I download this program??

  • @KSAzone Well, all you really need is an emulator. Just do a google search. There are many open source options out there.

  • How do you change form factor to decimal?

  • @ShamyNas16 Did you mean to say fraction to decimal form? Simply press the green diamond key and then press enter (in the very bottom right-hand corner) for an approximate value.

  • okay so can someone clarify this for me? i think i have it right when i say that when some of the pixels do not show in some of the text that it is just trying to display a faded, ineligible-to-use look right? for example, when you hit the home button and you press f1 for tools and everything is clear, 1.open and 3.new is faded to show that you cannot use it. i'm just making sure that mine is not defective. please, if anyone gets what i'm asking please confirm it or tell me there's something bad

  • @50CaI Yes, that is what I get as well.

  • @ultimatemath thank you! i was sort of scared

  • I would recommend you check out both khanacademy and patrickjmt websites and watch a couple of their algebra videos to see if you find them easy to learn from. Also, if you decide to take the class online, I would recommend the wolframalpha website, just type in "algebra" (I have a video out there on it). As far as the 89 goes, it can do everything on the list (application require a little extra work). I've never taken an online math class though, so I really don't know which will work best.

  • By the way, here is the course info:

MT 120 — Intermediate Algebra with Applications

    Hours: 3

    Course ID: 004560

Exponents, factoring, polynomials, radicals, radical expressions, graphing in the plane, functions, linear and quadratic equations, systems of linear equations, and appropriate applications.

    Your friend,

    Tim

  • Thank you for your speedy response! Yes, I will be able to use my 89 in class and on tests. Do you think I should take an on-line math class? My only fear of doing that is I won't have the hands-on training I might need to pass the course. However, if you really think I can do it, on-line, with just the TI-89 (and little to no math knowledge) then I actually feel like I have some hope. What would you suggest?

  • Here's a question for you: I'm a 32 year old male who is getting ready to take a Math (MT 120 Intermediate College Course). I am math-stupid. Is it true that if I learn how to use my TI-89 that I should be able to pass the course? I'm really nervous about this class but I have to pass it!!

  • @timhopwood From your description, it looks like you intend to take an intermediate algebra course, is that right? The TI-89 is very capable and has an entire algebra menu. However, there are two main points to consider. First, is the TI-89 allowed on tests for your particular class? Second, professors always want you to "show your work." There are programs you can download to show step-by-step calculations, but ethically you probably wouldn't want to use them on an exam without a professor ok.

  • @Jp281able It's not hard at all. First you have to download the emulator (I posted a link for the website in the video description). Then you can either upload the ROM from your calculator or Texas Instruments has them freely available on their website.

  • Ok, here is a question, I can not get it to show the answer for 3 times pie. How do I get it to show, it just shows 3*pie in the display.

  • @tystick6969 First press the green diamond key, then press enter. 3*pi should then turn into 9.424778.... Make sure you do this right after the 3*pi is displayed as the answer.

  • No, the TI89T does not have a light. I also like the Casio Classpad 330. Whatever calculator you settle on, I would recommend buying it used. That's what I did and I got it for half the cost and it works great. Just a side note, many classes do not allow the TI89T so you may want to check with your instructor ahead of time.

  • That is an amazing Calculator. I would love to own one. I'm been thinking about buying the Casio Classpad 330. My only problem is the Classpad 330 does not have a light. Does the TI89T have a light?
