HISTORY LESSON: The first person to build and fly a heavier-than-air machine was the New Zealander Richard Pearce who flew 9 months before The Wright Brothers. The Wright Brothers were the first people to perform what is called ‘controlled’ flight. The first person to actual build & fly a mechanised plane was Richard Pearce.
@Saloron2 Actually, the Wright's first attempt was on Dec 14th with Wilbur at the controls. That flight attempt was very short, as Wilbur reacted very much like this video, he went nose high, stalled, and pancaked into the sands on the side of a Kill Devil Hills sanddune. There is rather famous photograph taken of Wilbur just as he hit the sand on this first attempt on the 14th.
