@xHenri Yes, "butchered". Cuz whatever he did to it sounds awful. Wicked is a brilliant work of musicality and writing. Vocally and instrumentally. If he can't make it better (which is already difficult enough for anyone to do), he should just leave it alone and respect the work of those truly worthy of calling themselves original composers.
@KDA92585 Sounds awful to you. I bet the majority of people who have watched this video would disagree based on the amount of "likes". The original is from a musical and he's trying to transform it into a hip-hop song. That's not an easy thing to do and it takes skill. If you know anything about sampling (which I will assume you don't), producers have to get permission to use samples so they must approve or else they wouldn't clear it.
@xHenri I'm familiar with how sampling works. Hence the reference in my initial comment to Schwartz earning royalties as writer of the original work. And since you like to make assumptions, would you not also assume that those that "like" this video are unfamiliar with the original? Kanye may have tried to make the song his own (granted, not an easy task) and it is just not of my particular liking for that very reason. Simply because I have a great appreciation for the original. Just my opinion.

There isn't much brilliance to a simple chord prgression, sorry. Keep an open mind just because he took a few words and put it to a drum beat it doesn't ruin anything..It just gives people something to be creative with. And that's what music is about, creativity.

I heard S-Preme's version and it sounds like he kinda keeps the cutesyness, while there's a...MENACE to Kanye's version, like he made the words mean something else. I'm loving the beat on YT for this that everyone is rhymin over. Possibly the biggest track & sample he could have had on his album & he leaves it off. Just listened to the album, man...I really wanna like it but it just 'Ok'. Bon Iver colab is good but from the songs that Ye's been appearing on I thought it would have some solid old school songs. It's very possible, because Paris knows a lot of Kanye's friends so it might just be that this beat was for Paris and not for Kanye. @upTioNNN It could have been Paris Jones' song Popular. A lot of people are saying that the beat he made in this video was for Paris Jones. It's very possible, because Paris knows a lot of Kanye's friends so it might just be that this beat was for Paris and not for Kanye. I guess we'll find out in November when the album comes out (if it doesn't get delayed)
