Magnificent . . . very different from some of the more famous interpretations, but magnificent. Look at those big fists clenching . . . and those eyes starting nearly out of his head at 4:35 and later, and him backing into the piano . . . and the look on his face at the end. His Boris is a man's man, proud, minimally sentimental, frustrated, trying to hang on to his sanity with both hands, and utterly terrified. I shall now have to see how Mr. Storojev handled this on stage . . .
