  • This is a great folk song. One of my favorites. The way these girls do it

puts the song in New Orleans where it belongs. Beautifully done.

Love this version where can I get the album with this version on it?

A mixture of folk and R&B together. Did'nt think it could be done, but

these girls are ingenious the way they put this version of the song

together. I've been a folk fan since I was five. Hearing this gives

me hope that there still some Imaginative music being made out there.

  • @phantom2976 This is from the 2000 album Blue Horse by The Be Good Tanyas (obviously). The singer is Jolie Holland, she went solo after this album and Escondida is probably her best. watch?v=XBJchnC6BWM

I wish I knew where to find more music like this!

  • Wow - I've been gigging a very different version of this song for 20 years and absolutely love your take on it! Really really enjoyed that ! Thanks!

  • @grope4luna...it's tragic you needed so much solace and peace on your missions.

    Respect.

  • Yep, evocative of the American deep south; fields of cotton in Louisiana; forests and clear-running streams of Kentucky.... amazing that they are from Vancouver (and I don't mean Washington.). They put on the American southern accent pretty well. Canadian girls all of them, though.

  • Jolie`s voice was a wonderful thing back then.

  • Miles better than any other version! i think.

  • WOW, I am new to this song so can understand some negative responses but I just love the voice.

  • I once dated a sweet girl named Tanya, who grew up on rafts on Ponchatrain. I do like this rendition.

  • where were you girls? What a fine, fine job!!!

  • For a folk song you took it to the place it should be. Slightly faster and beautiful. Thanks. I listen to this almost daily. And I am an Ex-Army soldier in the US. You have givien me solace and peace in more countries than you can imagine.

  • Beautiful!
