3D Motion Tracking Tutorial | After Effects | Boujou

My text layer disappears when I check the 3d layer square. But if I uncheck the eye on the camera layer it comes back. How do I solve this?

@rando408 change your position or scale and zoom out to try c the text layer, if that doesnt work try using a different null

I tried copying the position from a random null object and then pasting it now it just came up. The only problem Im having now is that Boujou didn't motion track it perfectly so its very bumpy. Any ideas on how to fix this?

@rando408 try using another null, if that doesnt work either redo/refilm the clip or look into more advanced tutorials for boujou such as scene setup

the boujou file imports fine into AF but when i double click the first comp. my null objects dont show up?

Just a tip for everyone, anything you motion track has to be in the shot the WHOLE time. As soon as it is no longer visible the Nulls fuck up.

I am filming a really big action movie next week and i am the main editor, i will be tracking smoke and stuff like that for muzzle flashes and such and was wondering what do i do different if it is a free move or nodal pan is there any difference? on the process?

@TheCardsProduction principles are the same apart from you might want to go into more advanced tutorials that are related to real life tracking, always look at more than tutorial and Id say you should do fine, good luck with the movie (:

When I export file to AE CS4 it gives the file name "Square( Before the name of my file). ie. "Square Camera Footage." When I open up that file it changes my resolution from 1280/720 to 1126/720. I wondering if you know why and, or how to correct this because it throws off my whole project.

@bklynXIII actually yes! i realised that 2 ): i have no idea y it does it but simple solution is to go into composition settings and change the resolution back to 1280 x 720 before you start work

@pinqoui probably failed tracking as Boujou is not 100 percent perfect. Try redoing the tracking and it may help under 'track feature' go to advanced and set the sensitivity to the highest.

I did everything you said yes, and in after effects when I double click the file to get all those null objects, they follow the video for about 3 seconds then just freeze over the video so it does not track further on

@CyborgEffects hmm thats actually difficult but maybe your composition frame rate is wrong or your actualy boujou motion tracking frame rate is different to the one your trying to set in after effects. Besides that I've never come across such a problem and watching other tutorials might help. sorry for not being able to help to much :s

one more question, in order to use three d text or threed objects must i use something like 3ds? if 3ds then will I have to do about the same thing i do in after effects but do it in 3ds(object and background footage after rendered in boujou)

@likes2fly If you wanted 3d objects or 3d text, yes you would need to do exactly the same EXCEPT you''ll need to change your export type to which ever program you want to export to, so instead of .maya change it to whatever the 3ds format is. Go to around 3:20 in the video if you don't understand what I mean. It won't be the same as each program is different and I would suggest looking up a different tutorial for each program but the fundamentals are basically the same.

update, I messed with the z position and thats the problem but my words are virtical so how do I lay them horizontal. When I type the letters,words they look ok but when I add the 3d thats when it flips the words up on end.

@likes2fly ok firstly if your applying ur text and for for what ever reason they are vertical, you can easily just play around with the rotation. The most likely reason its flipping the text is because the motion tracked point you are selecting is motion tracked at that sorta angle. hard to explain but perhaps use another motion tracked point or mess around with the rotation, pressing 'r' on the text layer to bring up the menu if u didnt know

got everything into after effects and it looks good but when I apply 3d to the text it disapears. Its looking at it on its edge so it looks like the rest of the tracking squares but when I copy and paste i can see it. Done it like you said but the tracking just isn't working. the words move and do not stay in one lacation. what am I doing wrong
