@rosscreuswell I did the same thing. I always regreted it. I always liked it when Stuart hit the pedal for the bagpipe effect. It was a keeper. We just didn't realize it at the time.
Don't know when NBC removed all the SNL vids but several yrs ago they released DVD box sets of each of the first 5 years. Don't have any but I'm pretty sure all shows r complete with all musical performances intact, unlike how they were shown when first syndicated -- 60 mins. w/comms. so one song was edited out. Hate to say it but they were last yrs. when show was consistently funny and cast was uniformly brilliantly talented. Does anyone think Kenan Thompson's 'What's up w/that' has any hum
@hudooguru: According to the book 'SNL: the First 20 Years' date of show was 3/12/83 (UK sequence), Dec. 3, 1983 for us Yanks. 2nd song was the =ly magnif. 'Fields of Fire'. Hosts were def. Tom and (little Dickie) Smothers; if u listen the intro u can def. makes out Dick's voice. He was the 'smart' one, Tom the 'dumb' one but was actually the creative brains for their act. Wish some of their vids were available-- they had great musical guests.
My first time hearing this and i must admit it is the worst ive heard out of them..Sounds like they are wore out or been playing a marathon? Kinda sounds like garage practice before the went live? I love the group and song but was shocked on this performance.
In what way is this post a disgrace? Because it is not the actual video? I have this on audio and wanted to share it with my fellow Big Country fans who may not have ever heard it before. How is that a disgrace?
This is where I first saw/heard this brilliant song. They rocked out so hard here. Love them all lots and miss Stuart dearly although I never came close to meeting him.
"here we go".. love when he says that. the snl video gig was on my fav list too .. to bad its gone now. at least we have the audio. all time fav song.
I remember seeing the video for this song when I was 13 years old when MTV actually played music. I took the money I earned from delivery papers and bought the cassette tape of the crossing. I remember listening to on a cheap cassette walkman I had at the time in the back of my dads car on those long boring trips you would have to take with your parents. There were no ipods then, didn't even know what the fuck an ipod was. Thanks BC for the memories.
Thanks for posting this. I remember watching Big Country perform "In a Big Country" live on the 1983 Grammy Awards show. But the SNL perfomance should count more anyway. I enjoyed watching that one as well. All through the show, I hoped that the Smothers Brothers and cast would keep the humor clean out of respect for Big Country. : ) And they did, pretty much.
I always wondered why it was taken down. I added the video to my faves list as soon as i found it, what a pisser... what a great performance it was! All I care about is the music, not some copyright. FUCK NBC, GE and the rest of you corporate assholes!!
@momo1mark Thats why big business needs to be controlled. Otherwise they will fuck you in the ass every time. They are relentless money machines that don't ever want people to be happy unless its a way for them to get richer.
The video must've been yanked. I used to have it in my favorites, but it suddenly disappeared. It's a shame because that was the first live BC performance on tv I ever saw, and it was great to have seen it after so many years.
Bloody brilliant! This song is simply forever.

the sample rate on this file is too low. The song is slower than they play and flat compared to the original key (E).

I've seen the video on youtube, the actual tape of the SNL show.....
But now I can't find it.
SURELY NBC didn't have it taken down.
Anybody know?

NBC took it down and took down all their live performances from SNL, U2, The Power Station etc it really sucks since you can't even buy it from NBC
bunrwater1969 3 years ago 2
Why did NBC take down all of the music live performances?
alaina66 3 years ago 2
After a bit of research they took it down because NBC own the rights and they're paranoid about piracy
bunrwater1969 3 years ago 2
Because they can't figure out how to make advertising money on streaming video when everyone else seems to be able to.
