Dude, it's ALWAYS possible to install linux. It's just a question of how many hoops you have to jump through first.
I know for a fact that the U810 runs Ubuntu famously, I'm not sure about the U1010. It would probably run okay out of the gate, but need some serious tweaking to be fully functional.
Yeah, but Vista has to have every transcription approved, now owning one I can attest that touch typing is challenging but I'm in the process of mavis beacon-ing on it...and i'm having some success
LOL...... First of all, lose the Vista crap. The u810 runs MUCH better with XP without all the bloat. But I had to laugh at the set up. Great little ultra-portable unit, then out comes the external folding keyboard and mouse. Really ! What's the point if you are going to carry around a bag of garbage with the PC ? Kinda like dragging around a Grandfather Clock to use as a wristwatch.
I get an error installing the drivers. It seems its not compatible with Windows XP because there is some missing DLL. Although you are using it with Windows Vista... maybe I should change to Windows Vista.
Does the Bluetooth hardware come preinstalled with your hardware? presumably a notebook like mine. Before jumping on Vista, I'd suggest you to update the Bluetooth stack software on your system. If you are using a Bluetooth dongle and it had been used for a while, I'd also suggest you to get a new dongle with the most up-to-date software and radio. Bluetooth dongles are quite cheap and easy to install vs. upgrading to Vista. Good luck.
lmfao the fujitsu lifebook start up just took to long, the reason for this would be the vista, vista is still work in progress and there will soon be a new version/upgrade what will allow u to log on quicker and browes files and the internet alot quicker also.
but for now i would recormend downloading XP home what is so much quicker
I bought it direct from Dell like two years ago together with my Axim. I am not sure if they still sell it. Anyway, it wasn't designed and made by Dell. I will email you the link of the company which makes it. I just checked, you can order it online.
Well, it's not even 900mhz, it's only 800mhz. Good advice. I have been hearing ubuntu a lot but just never had the incentive to try it out. xubuntu is a derivative of xbuntu, right? Anyway, guess what? I am replying to you on ubuntu's firefox running on a virtural machine created under Parallels on my MacBook. Installation was a breeze. I only started the installation half an hour ago. I will play around ubuntu on my MacBook for a while before deciding whether to take the plunge with my U1010.
I guess performance won't be an issue because I think u1010 should be more powerful than a vm. But my main concern is bluetooth cuz I nowadays I use my wm6 smartphone as a bluetooth modem a lot to connect my u1010 to hsdpa network. Do you have any experience with that?

u shouldn't use vista on it.. it's real slow. "Recommended:
800 MHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) CPU
512 MB of system memory - RAM (Only 64 MB can be used for Integrated UMA Graphics Memory)
20 GB hard disk with 15 GB of free hard disk space
32 MB DirectX 9-class graphics card *
Internal or external DVD-ROM drive
Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
Internet access capability
Audio output capability"

The U810 is the US version of the U1010, so the 1010 should handle Ubuntu just fine.

Are you able to touch-type on the keyboard? Would this computer be useful at all for a note-taking device in Uni? As in typing notes...
kbbbb7 3 years ago
you write the words with the stylus and vista reconizes it

Wow... lol, a port in front?
Also, have you tried using vlite to slim down Vista? I'd have a fit if my computer ran that slow.

Is the keyboard useful? Is it easy or comfortable to strik?
likuijun 3 years ago
The keyboard is really awful because of the compromises it has made to fit so many keys within limited space.

Yeah, it's definitely vista. That's it.
Or maybe it's the 800 MHZ PROCESSOR. Admittedly vista contributes to the

I'd probably run linux on such a small machine.

Xubuntu would screem on this, Vista is a bit heavy for a 900mhz cpu.
