They aren't bad. Some songs aren't for everyone and maybe to you this wasn't, but they can play ballads. If they didn't have the ability to play then i'm sure the band would be alot smaller.

I'm not sure how keen I am on then doing a gospel song in this environment; but nonetheless, I liked the arrangement and thought it was a nice change of pace for them. I just wish the sounds from the crowd could have been filtered out so I could hear the band better in the beginning (I never thought I'd have a problem hearing Southern's band. LOL)

It means that they are into the music and when you are watching these videos you cant always go by what you see. You have to LISTEN. They are playing rather softly compared to the way they normally play. The fact that you can barely hear them in the beginning is a clue.

Watching this clip just pissed me of SU did just what they do and thats bite off FAMU'S style. Ok they played the song but they crossed the line when they got up and also tried to sing it and everyone knows thats one of FAMU signatures. It just goes to show that THE 100 is the band that every band wants to be.
I've said it a 1000 times before so I'll make this 1001. When you boys hold back on the volume (namely the trumpets) and let your trombones and baritones shine, your sound is great. This song is an example of that.

I heard the band at PVU in Houston - yes, they lost a "lil" power, but the overall sound is more balanced. I like the sound in the past, I just like the current sound better.
There is trash talking on both sides. Actually, I've never heard FAMU sing, but I guess thats because I don't really view FAMU clips. I don't know what I posted regarding FAMU other than something about them playing "Do Watcha Wanna" or defending the Jukebox regarding some statement that was made. We do agree; however, that the Jukebox sounds a lot better this year. Best Regards to your band also.
i must say that this is probably the best i've ever heard su. not trying to over blow, mostly in tune, and a nice warm sound at the beginning. if they played like this more often, they could be a great band instead of just a good one.
even still, i hated the arrangement. didn't fit the style of the song, and percussion didn't fit.

No one talks trash about FAMU. You guys do what you do and SU has their own style. The only issues I've heard about FAMU is that your band is too large and the size limits your ability to drill on the field. Thats it. Almost everytime I see a SU clip, someone from FAMU always has to say something negative to interject something about FAMU. I like the singing--this was a battle (5th quarter) and it was unexpected.
su1998 - it's a fact that many su folks and supporters talk trash about famu. maybe not you, but it does happen. one of the criticisms is that we sing too much. i was just pointing out the irony in that statement, not drawing comparisons. the only reason famu even came up in the convo was b/c you posted it as a response to a famu clip.

The size doesn't limit the ability to drill. Now if you're referring to step two drills then yes it can but as you know famu RARELY do those anymore. He (Dr. White) likes the larger band so he can do more aanimation/picture drills.
Good choice in the ballard in the 5th. Shows the bands versatility. Never really liked how you all phrase during ballards but over all, The song sounds good.
FAMU has a large and pretty much stagnate band, they fill the whole field which makes for more than boring field shows (that's why they got those silly flag folks-to distract), but I digress, their sound is respectable, although nothing powerful, more symphonic (if's that's the aim then So be it), but Southern is more of a show band, everything is precision, sonically powerful,pleasing to the eye with the different field designs ie (floating stars,contracting circles,scores,boxes,zigs)...Amazing
LOL SU drills= High school lvl and anybody can push air through a horn like they do them unison notes and whole and half notes they layer is far from what a program is suppose to be now i will give them pros that the 08 Jukebox was on point but still is not better then FAMU. I will agree with you that FAMU is big so they can't drill but their pic drills are always flawless buddy and that dymicthis they pulled at the end is something you expect from FAMU not SU but they did a good Job tho

I heard the band at PVU in Houston - yes, they lost a "lil" power, but the overall sound is more balanced. I like the sound in the past, I just like the current sound better.

There is trash talking on both sides. Actually, I've never heard FAMU sing, but I guess thats because I don't really view FAMU clips. I don't know what I posted regarding FAMU other than something about them playing "Do Watcha Wanna" or defending the Jukebox regarding some statement that was made. We do agree; however, that the Jukebox sounds a lot better this year. Best Regards to your band also.

i must say that this is probably the best i've ever heard su. not trying to over blow, mostly in tune, and a nice warm sound at the beginning. if they played like this more often, they could be a great band instead of just a good one.
even still, i hated the arrangement. didn't fit the style of the song, and percussion didn't fit.
and for all the trash su talks about famu, well...now you're singing too?

No one talks trash about FAMU. You guys do what you do and SU has their own style. The only issues I've heard about FAMU is that your band is too large and the size limits your ability to drill on the field. Thats it. Almost everytime I see a SU clip, someone from FAMU always has to say something negative to interject something about FAMU. I like the singing--this was a battle (5th quarter) and it was unexpected.

su1998 - it's a fact that many su folks and supporters talk trash about famu. maybe not you, but it does happen. one of the criticisms is that we sing too much. i was just pointing out the irony in that statement, not drawing comparisons. the only reason famu even came up in the convo was b/c you posted it as a response to a famu clip.
again, best i think i've ever heard su. keep it up.

The size doesn't limit the ability to drill. Now if you're referring to step two drills then yes it can but as you know famu RARELY do those anymore. He (Dr. White) likes the larger band so he can do more aanimation/picture drills.
Good choice in the ballard in the 5th. Shows the bands versatility. Never really liked how you all phrase during ballards but over all, The song sounds good.

FAMU has a large and pretty much stagnate band, they fill the whole field which makes for more than boring field shows (that's why they got those silly flag folks-to distract), but I digress, their sound is respectable, although nothing powerful, more symphonic (if's that's the aim then So be it), but Southern is more of a show band, everything is precision, sonically powerful,pleasing to the eye with the different field designs ie (floating stars,contracting circles,scores,boxes,zigs)...Amazing

LOL SU drills= High school lvl and anybody can push air through a horn like they do them unison notes and whole and half notes they layer is far from what a program is suppose to be now i will give them pros that the 08 Jukebox was on point but still is not better then FAMU. I will agree with you that FAMU is big so they can't drill but their pic drills are always flawless buddy and that dymicthis they pulled at the end is something you expect from FAMU not SU but they did a good Job tho
