I would never, never buy a rechargeable device that doesn't have a way to change out the battery. You want to send your phone to Apple every time your phone needs a new battery? How about if you're on an extended stay away from a charger and want to pop in a fresh fully charged battery? Ridiculous product engineering. The iPad has the same problem.

hey im suspecios that my iphone has water damaged not sure because i bought it from someone but the problem is it gets really hot and battery drains really fast i thought it was a battery problem but turns out its not im thinking its the mother board now i wanna try that rubbing alcohol trick just on the mother board with the battery connected but out of contact with the alcohol just to see if it fixes anything do you think that's good idea if not let me alright....

Wishizzy: You might not know it, but accumulators are gone after about 300 to 500 load cycles. Buying an iPhone is a mistake anyway. But buying a used one ...

You should NOT use any liquids while a device is supplied with current. You dont know which substances are on the mainboard or in the liquid. Just a bit of inpurity could make alcohol conductive in a way that you may shortcircuit your CRAPPLE.

u can use that green opening tool to separate the iphone but if u don't want to risk braking the phone u can take a suction cup and put it right above the home button and lift it very slowly and it comes right out. it does work very good but i need to say that i'm not responsible if u break the phone but there is a 98% it will work

i agree it is cheaper to get a battery replacement elsewhere than apple, but $20 is still way to much to pay. go to ebay and you can order one for as low as $0.99 from hong kong. of course shipping is about $4.50. but i bought one for $5.52 with free shipping. so EVERYONE USE EBAY!!!

They created that battery a long time ago... You know lithium batteries do not have memory? They still do degrade still with repeated use but they don't care if you fully charge them or not. The way to damage a lithium battery is to discharge it until it can't power the device, then leave it sitting about for months. It will never work again.

M... okj... but can you explain then how i damaget my laptop li-ion battery by just puting laptop to power all the time whenewer i moved and dot waited untill batery will lose atleast bit power, i mean i turned to charge laptope even when battery is 100% cause i have no time to wait till it will be atleast 90%. and after yahr batter from 4.5hours now works just 5 minutes.

hey i had my iphone 1st gen in my pocket and jumped into a pool(accedentally) and i put it in a bag of rice to help it dry out. now it only does the apple symbal, and only when i plug it in. if i do this would it help or am i screwed, cause i kno it has something to do with the battery cause the screen has water bubbles but still works. but does not work when not plugged in....PLEASE RESPOND!!!!!!!

90 Percent alcohol will save the iphone if it has fallen in water!? My iphone fell in the water for maybe 30 secs. i couldnt turn it off, because it went into some sort of recovery mode with a gray apple symbol and then turned off after 15 mins. I went home after 6 hours and blow dried it which at that point the start up screen initiated by itself because the phone was still on i suppose and some of the water had dried. It has since shut off completely. Does the alcohol work!?

Hey Nate... I got the 1st gen iPhone and my loud speaker on the bottom of the phone sounds really quiet even when the volume is fully blasted. ring tones sound really quiet but everything else works great. I saw a video on youtube to poke holes in the iphone speaker with a needle because there is a plastic covering the speaker. is this safe to do? if i do this and decide to replace the speaker, does poking holes with a needle do any damage to the phone or just the removable speaker?

I find it to be really RETARDED that you need a Soldering iron to replace your battery in your iPhone, iPOD touch or Macbook Air. It's not like a battery is a service part, it is a CONSUMABLE part.

Although Apple does make lots of great things and is an example of how an American company can create great, desirable products of high quality, Apple does tend to have a bad habit of putting design over practical function.

As you say, the battery is a consumable part that will wear out well before the product's serviceable life is used up.

Apple could've easily engineered a way to replace the battery easily without compromising the design yet they chose not to do so.

The answer to this is that apple's designers cannot think a way of doing practical design... This phone should have been designed by Swedish designers. Swedish designers can create wonderful and minimalistic designs, without compromising practical function.

In other words, the ultimate decision is left to Apple leadership so a design with a replaceable battery could still be rejected, even if a fantastic design came form Swedish designers.
