  • There's nothing wrong with ad libbing. It was rather common

in the early days of TV....especially during rehearsals. Respect

for the writers was likely behind Lucy's big "NO" that makes me

suspect the opposite. I think it's unique to Lucy's generation to

overdue the false modesty...giving credit to the writers instead

of taking credit for ad libbing. Interesting factoid though: "Lucy

was not a terribly funny person, strangely enough". Most great

    comedians are rather stoic.

  • another spic lover

  • I am glad she dead may her body decay in hell

  • There is no sound on your videos??

  • Is the clock that shows at 3:35 the same one that used to hang above the fireplace in the Ricardo's original apartment? If not, they are remarkably similar!

  • I thought Lucy might really have craved that concoction during her pregnacy.

  • What episode was this Man Lucy Eyes Poped open

  • thanks for the video, very interesting =)

  • I'm not calling her a bitch, I'm not saying she wasn't. Why? BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW HER. I'm not going to hate on her, and I'm not going to defend her just cuz I love her show like some in the comments are doing.

But I AM going to note that I find it odd that Lucy says to drop the baby onto the floor and continue with the scene. WTF?

And in more recent Lucy when she's older, she often seems to have an intimidating tone. But maybe I'm just mistaken. o-o

  • @Axxidous Dude, she was kidding. Take a chill pill.

  • @MrsCullenJankowski I don't think this was worth the response. xD You don't know she was kidding but whether she was or not is besides the point. I'm not freakin out or yelling. I was just making a point. XD

  • The only person that even comes close to Lucy's greatness, in my humble opinion, is Carol Burnett. That's it. The end.

  • @deeway1963 Agreed. They were funny ladies, and modern female comedians could learn a lot from them.

  • @deeway1963 Yes, you're right Burnett was a comedic genius as well. Her scenes with Harvey Korman was some of the funniest skits I have ever seen.

  • @YesYou123333 Not to take away from the subject of Lucy, but speaking of Carol Burnett, she was sometimes asked during the question-and-answer period of her show who her favorite comedian was. Her answer was always the same, and was said in all seriousness, "My favorite comedian is Harvey Korman." I think Harvey Korman was one of the greats of sketch comedy, and his performances in the movies were also stellar!

  • @deeway1963 carol burnett deserves death too

  • The Queen! The Queen! The Queen! There will never be another Lucy-ever! All Hail The Queen!

  • Sorry, I really wasn't calling her a bitch, I was just wondering if she might have been difficult to work with back then.

  • @Celie3678 she was just really serious about her work..

  • lol one of my favorite ep. was with Tallulah..."i call everyone dah'ling because i can't remember their name dah'ling" i love what lucy says about her in the commentary. brilliant

  • This is Desi's ghost from the great beyond. Guess what, I still love Lucy....lol

    Goodnight and adios.

  • This is Awesome. I've been a 'Lucy' fan for 25yrs and never heard/saw this! Thanks so much for adding to youtube. Do you have more of the Criterion Collection commentary? As LaserDiscs are long dead, it would be great to have a chance to hear again. . . Lucy's own words, Can't beat that!

  • Lol! "I remember, I don't know how the hell you remember!"

  • I bet this was really interesting to hear right from the great lady herself but I can't hear the commentary because it is so low !

  • where the commentary from

  • such a shame they didn't put any interviews in the dvds. but their still good. they should have madelyn pugh (one of the three writers of I Love Lucy, and the only one living right now) do a LOOOONG interview all about i love lucy and have her do commentary tracks on the best episodes along with crew members thats still alive and then colorize the best episodes put it optional on a blu ray collection and include all the interview and bios on the blu ray collection. but if only that could happen

  • What a great interview with funny vids in the background. Such a beautiful and funny lady!

  • This is amazing! Thank you so much for posting! Great insight,

  • I've heard different stories about how she was with the cast and crew and how Viv stood up to her. I hope she didn't really mean that if the baby cried to drop him, that would have been cruel. I really loved Lucy and Desi and have also heard that they were very nice to everyone.

  • i love lucy

  • Hmmmmm! ...sounds like Lucy might have been a bit of a bitch to work with.

  • @Celie3678 Not a bitch at all just a perfectionist. VERY detailed about the way the show was going to play out

  • @Celie3678 don't ever call lucy a bitch...because she was far from it.

  • @amberlovesapplepie09 AMEN TO THAT SISTER!!!! IF I EVER HEAR ANYONE CALLING LUCY THE B-WORD I WILL PERSONALLY WIPE THE FLOOR WITH THAT PERSON AND THOROUGHLY ENJOY DOING SO!!

    wow, that felt good.

  • @Fishheadmama olololololololololololololololol you made me laugh. <3

  • wow this is amazing. i love the sardines story. i always wondered if thats what she really ate and how she could stand it

  • brilliant to hear her speak about the great talullah bankhead at the end :-)

  • Thks for posting! Where did you get the commentary from Lucy and the others?

  • @illnsp08 from the Criterion Laserdisc, as stated in the description

  • @DVDFilmFun Oh sorry, i didnt know what it was so i asked. Is it a Lucy documentary?

  • @illnsp08 No, it is a collection of clips on the Laserdisc that has a commentary track with Lucy and other members of the creative team. They used new interviews and archival interviews to create the track in 1991. This is just one small excerpt from that montage and commentary.

  • @DVDFilmFun Oh i see. I didnt know about the things she said about the episodes as it's the 1st time im hearing it. Will u put up the rest of it?

  • @DVDFilmFun Is it correct that none of the commentary from the Laserdisc was used in any of the I Love Lucy DVD sets?
