page's style is rooted in Blues. That being said Zepp plays alot of blues stuff, like the riff from the Lemon song is actually a cover of a Howlin' wolf song from the fifties, and Howlin' wolf probably played his version as a cover of someone elses. Blues is sharing riffs ideas, and chord progressions, no one really owns the blues, its the collective embellishments of generations of musicians.
this is an original zep tune dude. do some research. plant and page wrote this when they went to the bron-yr-aur cottage for vacation in whales. although a lot of zeppelins shit is just covers.
oh really...well heres some research for you, the lyrics are plants, but the tune is stolen pretty much note for note from an irish folk song called the "waggoner's lad" interpreted by bert janch. his tune came out on record 4 years before zep went to whales...so YOU do some research, asshat! dont bother commenting, because I know Im right!
fuck you cock fag. you said the song was stolen. they just used their own variation of a riff somebody already wrote and put lyrics over it. the song is different enough that you CAN call it original. people do that all the time. is the song a rip off? fuck yeah. but its not stolen. and i think we can both agree that it kicks ass.
Actually you are half right. Led Zeppelin drew inspiration from two sources. Wagoner's Lad and Steve Miller's LT's Midnight Dream.
They loved the Irish folk song but were not sure it would work on one of their albums. But then heard a similar song on Steve Miller's Album, Brave New World. Then decided to take from both.
Yes Led Zep did 'draw' a lot of themes from other musicians but they still had loads of talent. Were the The Beatles? No, but they were still creative in their own right.
however its spelt, doesn't change the fact that while being one of my favorite bands of all time, played a lot of folk and american delta blues songs, and pawned it off as their own, thats all. Cheerio you fucking ass bag.
i;m possitive that the tuning is DGDGBD the only reason i know this is because i have this book of sheet music called 'led zeppelin complete.' and it has the tuning for the song in it. and there is a common misconception that there is a capo used in this song which is wrong too. lol
yea, my friend is a led zepp freakn and he plays alot of there stuff, i found a tab that was in FAFCFC and it sounded right, only it was ALOT HARDER, and plus most of led zepps songs like this are in DGDGBD so im gonna look for one in that and beat my friend to playin this :D
Yes, this a great version ;probably the best on youtube. Don't you just love how people point out all the "mistakes" but nobody ever puts up their own videos on how to do it "correctly " ? LOL
Thanks I am going try something I saw you do. We play this out alot and get the best response from it. We will play it tonight in the middle of the show. Thats The Way, Black Country, Bron-Y-Aur-Stomp. Check it out I am going to post it on a video response ROCKSHOW Raleigh NC I play it like you in G DGDGBD
yes i just read in this book i just bought called "LEd Zeppelin Complete" thst it is Open G tuning and that is DGDGBD. eah but this video still kicks ass.
I play it using the open E tuning that LesPaulCustom79 provided below. I loosly base the way I play it from tab I had in a Led Zeppelin III book. I'll see if I can find you the ISBN. I fill in the blanks where the book left out. I know I don't play it exactly how he does (especially since I don't even use the same tuning JP did) or nearly as well (which people seem to love to point out) but I play it as best I can. Thanks to everyone who writes complimentary or constructive comments.
Page actually used an detuned open F tuning and a capo on third fret to reduce string tension from open F tuning. Weird just like Page + I hate capos.
Usually Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp(correct spelling) is tuned to open E. Can hit bar chords faster. Then the run patterns change from standard tuning though. Tabs are wrong and use standard tuning.
You are incorrect. The record company marketing idiots mispelled "Bron-Yr-Aur" by leaving off the "r" on the back of record sleeve. Bron-Yr-Aur is the name of the stone cottage, in Gwenydd, Wales, where Zepplein wrote and recorded most of LZIII in 1970.
Dude...I have had your vid in my favorites for over a year now I think...and it's still one I go back to. Amazing job...right on key and right in rhythm. You have both talent and taste.
Page recorded this song in open F tuning with some strings tuned down 4 steps and some 2 steps, but it can be done in open E tuning as well but the picking will be different.
The folk song's name is very close to the spelling by Led Zepplein but with the correct Welsh spelling. I saw the real name in an article about Led Zepplein on the internet. I'll try to find it and get the path.
"The Waggoner's Lad" and the music was given to Jimmy Page by Bert Jansch. The title of Bron-Yr-Aur ("Golden Hill" in Welsh), is for a stone cottage located in Gwynedd, Wales, on top of a hill overlooking a huge meadow filled with wild flowers. Zepplein wrote & recorded many songs from Led Zepplein III at Bron-Yr-Aur Cottage in the summer of 1970. The lyrics are about Robert Plant's walks in the woods with his bluish-gray & white Border Collie, Stryder.
Bob Dylan played this before Jimmy Page did. I'm pretty sure that he wasn't the first one to play it either though. He does a good job on this song. It doesn't have to sound like Jimmy's version to be right.
that is the correct speed to play it...well done. It could be a bit "looser" but it is very difficult to get that "jimmy page " feel on the guitar. Good job.
You can sort of play this using normal tuning. E-shaped barre, 1st fret, 4th fret, 6th fret and 3rd fret for the "when I walk down a country lane.." bit. You'll have to work out the picked part yourself. Good enough for busking :-)
The song is usually played tuned to open D (DADF#AD) and Capoed at 3 for open F. This is so you dont have to tune up any strings and risk neck stress.
Did you know this songs lyrics where written about Robert Plant's dog (Strider)? "As we walk down the country lanes ill be singing a song Hear me calling your name".
man thats deadly, well done. that wouldn't happen to be a marlin guitar you're playing is it. my brother gave me a marlin guitar and it looks exactly like yours.
Sorry, I don't have tab for it or a link. I had an old Zeppelin book(which I no longer have)that had it in which forms the basis for the song, and then along with the help of the Amazing Slow Downer, I was able to pick up the rest.
crazy man, that was great, would u mind sending me a tab? i mean i read one online and it looked nothing like the way that you were playing that. That was incredible, one of the more difficult songs to play i think. But yea get back to me on the tab would ya ;)?
