"Appendix 1. Breakdown of costs for a pair of Nike shoes from an Indonesian plant, 1995 (Behind the Swoosh)."
Cost to Nike $20.00
Cost to retailer $35.50
Cost to consumer $70.00
.
"Date: Sunday, November 9, 1997, 9:00pm PST [...] Scott Conyers, a Portland analyst, said the cost for Nike to manufacture a pair of Air Jordan shoes is 500,000 Indonesian rhupias--$30 in U.S. money."
@hitssquad 10 years I used to work for a branded firm that was partnered with Nike. You have to take these accounting figures with a grain of salt. Those who truly profit from this type of company are the marketers, advertisers, officers of the company and trademark and copyright lawyers. The lynchpin of the whole system is copyright and patent law. The "profits" that are published by the accountants are carefully engineered to avoid takeover & maximize bonuses.
@hitssquad because it takes years to develop a brand like Nike, and they've probably tied up the possibility of making similar products using patents and trademarks. The company I used to work for spend more on legal fees than it cost them to make their product. The game was to patent and trademark their product as broadly as possible, then sue new entrants into the market for trademark and patent infringement.
Stupid materialistic people, running for a pair of expensive stupid shoes OMG! Just goes to show how disconnected people are to what is important in life, their fellow humans and spirituality.
Americans are getting more and more pathetic each year. Its unbelievable what they will riot over when the rest of the world is in economic crisis and people are dying in various wars all over. ITS SAD really SAD. There is no hope for the future of america if this continues..

@Ape65 How much does it cost to make a Nike shoe? Why haven't you started a competing firm? No waffle iron?
