wow, king of the cops takes me back to years ago, what a great song, though the humour would be lost on the younger generation of today, thanks for posting, great suff!
King of the Cops, was ahead of its time, and the first to parody the new influx of U.S cop themed shows, also compare the writing to impressionist offerings today, better than Culshaw and McGowan. It stands up well, in respect for relevant jokes per second. All those saying they were glad punk kicked in, (as I was too), but remember Midge Ure was part of that 'new' scene, although it seemed he just jumped the popularity ship as this appearance shows. He'd have become an entertainer, whatever.
You can always tell a classy impressionist - they're the ones who announce who they're impersonating, in case the impression's not quite good enough. Joe Longthorne, he does that. And I never knew Steve McGarrett sounded like Cliff Richard.
Great to finally see a video for King of the Cops. Perhaps you know, but Billy Howard made a follow-up called Disco Cops in which all these characters are featured. It even has a reference to the hot policewoman "Pepper" Anderson from the same era.
King of the Cops - oh god, it was ghastly. I think in early 1976 we were waiting for something to kick the pop scene up the backside and along came punk. Thanks for posting this!
"King of the Cops" got a regular playing in our household when we were kids back in the 70s. Great memories and great to hear it again :)
Police officers makin' records, what'll they think of next... hahaha Guess you had to be around at the time to appreciate the humour in this. V funny tho. Thanks for posting.
Forever and Ever sounds very much like a Bay City Rollers song doesn't it?
Slik where on the same Bell record label. Martin and Coulter wrote most of the BCRs songs. Same recording studio. Same production standards. And of course Slik where from Scotland.
King of the cops is such a hoot! I remember I learnt all the words to this I when I was about 8 (had nothing better to do I guess) I used to think was great.
Funny how perspective changes everything, but still, its nice to see all these oldies, but goodies.

Actually with the addition of a couple of synths to replace the guitars, it could have been a new romantic Ultravox record 5 years later.

@flaxonx3 And the organ...?
The chorus slightly lets it down, but the rest of it does sound a little bit like Ultravox would later be...
