  • Below should be DADT, not DAD.

  • If you would like to see some of the brave young gay men who are serving in our military, openly now with the repeal of DAD, you can view these YouTube videos:

"It gets better - Gay U.S. Navy Sailor" by Caduckster

"It Gets Better a Marine's story" by Ansteve1

"My Coming Out Story - Military Man" by x1Prince

"Telling My Dad That I Am Gay--Live" by AreYouSurprised

  • uhhh a dadt survey is not inherently homophobic, for all you know most troops could answer that they don't care about serving with openly gay members

barbara starr seemed objective in her reporting, didnt say anything one way or another

  • mattschol,

this survey is flawed because it assumes that soldiers like YOU, who think that gay troops will be "free to express their attraction to other men in their unit" are capable of providing reality-based answers. Clearly you are NOT. What repealing DADT will do, is allow the 66,000 gay men and women in the military to stop lying everytime they are asked what they did last weekend. Imagine if you had to lie and make up stories every day to hide your wife and kids from the army.

  • Interesting comments. Since when did the military become a democracy?

  • Who the CRAP cares about who you're showering with when you've got BOMBS dropping on your fucking shower stall? It's nobody's frigging business you're in the goddamn sack with. If you're a service member, then you should do your fucking job instead of wondering who's gay.

  • @RavenReverend

You said it, and you said it well!

  • Wow, I'm not homophobic at all and I see NOTHING wrong with that segment. That seems like a very, very reasonable and useful survey. What if it turns out ending DADT would infuriate our troops?! Then the REAL injustices against gays (i.e. physical beatings) would soar. Plus, who's going to care about such an insignificant "social injustice" once our army defects and our country becomes unprotected.

  • @Russell218

This survey is simply a way for the president to make sure the proverbial shit won't hit the fan if he ends DADT. It's almost unbelievable that anyone could be offended by that, considering he's just making sure that our national security won't be compromised.

  • @Russell218

I'll tell you another thing, this is EXACTLY the kind of crap that makes people hate gays in the first place. They're always bitching and complaining about the dumbest stuff, and quite frankly, we're all just tired of hearing about it. But they keep going, and going, and they're always picketing this, or protesting that... Eventually everyone just gets fed up, and then you get things like Prop. 8 passing in California.

  • Barbara kind of scares me.

  • Attitude doesn't always perceive behavior...

  • "Hi!! Christian Group of Friends: Agora's Place!!"

  • I think people are missing the point... The Don't Ask Don't Tell Policy was created as a way to deal with homophobia in the military... It turned into a way to keep gays out of the military by saying that gays would make the straights uncomfortable... They are polling to see how true that is... Times change and social acceptance changes... If their is a change in policies it may allow some very qualified people into the military...

  • Yeah, maybe the survey is biased/bullshit, but its still a start. Five years ago no one was talking about it, now people are at least working towards it.

  • What a fucking drama queens at the military. Every job has gay people and many live in the same rooms and NO ONE CARES!.. christ

  • lol "againagain!"

  • "oh, and we're out of TP"

  • Just because someone is homosexual, doesn't mean that they will be perverted towards all people around them. If a straight guy was in a shower full of unattractive women, he wouldn't care.

  • @WillyEverman143 But when and where in the armed forces are men or women FORCED to shower with one another.

  • @Lidgoi In war zones. I know, because I am in the Air Force. They aren't FORCED, but no one is waiting in line to take a shower.

  • Gays shouldn't be allowed in the military. Given that they engage in anal sex, they are more likely to contract AIDS. Given that soldiers often bleed, you are putting the soldiers in harms way of contracting AIDS. That's a pretty fucked up thing to do to someone who is risking his life to keep you safe everyday.

  • @tubular87 Where to begin? Straight people engage in anal sex all the time too, HIV infections are very low among both gays and straight. The military also has high standards for physical fitness among all their members, so no one that has HIV would be allowed to serve.

  • @tubular87 people with bad hygiene shouldnt be allowed to serve either

  • "DON'T ASK don't tell" questionnaire?

  • This is totally ridiculous! I served as a gay soldier in the military openly for 12 years. If the military suddenly got rid of the gays/lesbians from the military it would have to open a draft to fill the spots that these patriotic Americans hold.

Also, this sounds like biggotry. A similar survey could have been done saying, do you agree with women in the military? How do you feel about blacks in the military? etc. Totally stupid!

  • @brendenoguin honestly good for you for not being afraid to show who you are! :) keep being who God made you to be :) im glad ur fighting for ur rights :)

  • Sure! I'd to shower with lesbians!....LOL

  • this is breaking news? lol

  • There is nothing wrong with gathering opinion, but no matter what decision is made, soldier will execute their orders. We have the most professional military in the world.

  • Comment removed

  • @ 6:38 "valability" ???? I'm pretty sure that's not a real word. @ 6:30 he even said "statitious" but corrected himself. Funny guy.

  • i don't freakin understand why it matters if a soldier is gay or lesbian. if they want to serve, they can serve. if they want to fight for this country then they should be allowed.

maybe people won't feel comfortable showering, but you figure it out so that you're not uncomfortable. and i doubt a gay soldier is going to try to hit on another soldier. it's a professional and serious thing, not a pickup bar.

  • Would you be comfortable showering with gay/lesbian? This is military, they kill people, they disciplined so that they are brainless sheep JUST following orders.

Also USA military spastic 50% of females soldiers get raped / ganged raped by their male comrades. Thats says something doesn't it (go check the economist thats the source) and you are talking about "would you feel comfortable showering with them"? Against the wall and shoot all of the fuckers involved in this stupid incident.

  • "Captain, i'm feeling kind of low... can Sgt Lewis suck me off?, he's really great at deep throating"

    "where's Corporal Martin and Jones?"

"don't know, but i heard some moaning and grunts coming from their foxhole about an hour ago"

  • he just made up a word at the end. it's validity.

  • The next question will be: "How would you feel if there was an Asian or black guy in your unit? How would you deal with it?"

  • Clearly, a bull-dyke gym teacher made Barbara feel creepy once back in high school. Prolly leered at her while she was taking a shower. O_o

  • Comment removed

  • @patsagainstrats Nude underage children showering with stranger adults present is LIGHT YEARS BEYOND "feeling creepy". That setup doesn't happen by accident because non-pedophiles avoid setups like that like the plague. That setup would seem to any reasonable observer to have been carefully set up by pedophiles. Doubt it not!

  • All I know is that if the troops don't want to end DADT then that is fine with me.

  • How was she defending the "homophobic" survey? I must have missed it.

  • I think the question here is why Drew was angry about asking any soldiers their opinions. No matter what you think, this law would affect them directly, so it seems fair just to ask them of their opinions.

  • @RedDragonShard Exactly! As a serious Christian, I disagree with Jews and Muslims who deny the divinity of Christ. I have nothing against them personally, but I have a right to refuse to work 24/7 with them since I disagree with their lifestyle choice. No offense, but I don't think I should be forced to serve alongside people going to Hell.

  • @BlueMarine1970 You have that right, but be careful how you phrase that. For one thing, if you refuse to work with them just because of that, you lose a chance to share Christ with them, and that doesn't help other Christians at all. But I don't believe ANY religious groups should have to hire people that don't agree with their beliefs. A Church shouldn't be forced to higher a non-Christian, atheist organizations shouldn't be forced to higher non-Atheists, etc. That was kind of off-topic.

  • This will make the U.S. military look weak around the world. We need to keep the gays and lesbians out because I would not re-enlist nor would I join the military. It will only hurt our military because alot of people will get out and we will have abunch of homo's running our military

  • @usmc6999 many other countries have openly serving gay and lesbians. then dont re-enlist or join. your point of view is small minded and midevil.

  • @rustmachine Openly "serving"? Hmmm... Isn't (technically) a heterosexual soldier "openly serving"? Is this term ("Openly-Serving Gay-Soldiers") used specifically (By the Media, Officials, and the Mainstream Public) to avoid using this term: "Openly-Gay Serving-Soldiers"? Is it done specifically because one term paints a different mental image than the other in the collective minds of the mainstream public? What could convince them to specifically avoid the term: "Openly-Gay"?

  • @usmc6999 ur an idiot not all homosexuals are frilly and crazy some you'd NEVER guess are homosexual b/c they act like any other male they're just intrigued by males as opposed to females

  • I'm all for gay and lesbians serving openly in our military. That way they'll have targets on their fronts and backs !

  • @hobo59 -said: "I'm all for gay and lesbians serving openly in our military."

Can I ask you some serious questions that should be coherently addressed?

-Did you actually intend to express that you are all for "serving gay and lesbians being openly gay in our military"?

Do you have any conscious awareness about what exactly had caused you to censor and rewrite your intended idea?

Will you ever consciously and coherently address these questions?

Must we sweep this under the carpet?

  • @1911collector

Obviously you didn't understand my point ! So here it is in an easy to read version.

I think Gays serving openly is a bad idea. I don't think those who are pushing this have really thought it through thoroughly enough. It has been my experience while serving in the Military (ARMY) Military Police. That those we fight against especially now, would target a gay far more so than just your average joe. And if you think they wouldn't know your absolutely mistaken.

  • @1911 collector

The rumor mill in the military is very active and would be easy pickens for the enemy to find out any and all who are gay. Not to mention the target they would be placing on their own back as well as fronts. If they are discriminated against in the outside world how much more so do you think it will still be prevalent in the Military irregardless of what ever command says ? When I served we always knew how to get rid of those we disliked, this will make it even easier !

  • @1911 collector

All anyone would need do instead of shooting the disliked person in the back and calling it friendly fire like in my day. Now all they need do is tell some Muslims when and where and even how they can get a hold of a gay US service person !

  • @1911 collector

All of this on top of what will be obvious problems of service under a gay person or showering with them or living within the same quarters. I can imagine how hard it will be to find people willing to shack up with a gay when they aren't but the rumors would fly to the contrary !

  • @hobo59 Actually I did understand your point the first time. I knew you thought it was a bad idea. My comment wasn't about you point though. Wasn't I clear? how did you misunderstand my comment? why didn't you answer the questions? I don't require "easy reading" do you? I wasn't even reffering to whether it was a good or bad idea. I was talking about something else. Did you even read it coherently? when you say "openly serving" do you really mean serving "openly gay"? Now go re-read my comment.

  • Homophobia, heterosexism, sexualism, heteronormativity, and homonegativity are equivalent to racism, sexism, etc.

  • @equalityboy81 In other words, one cannot teach onto another, to be traumatized by an event that they don't experience for themselves as traumatic. Just like one cannot teach onto another to NOT be traumatized by an event that they DO experience for themselves, personally, privately, as a traumatic event. You deny outright, that human beings, born homophobic, personally experience their first introduction to the thought of homosexuality, as a genuine traumatic event? You can read minds?

  • @1911collector I will say homophobia and hate are taught if that answers your question(s).

  • I bet you shes related to jesse starr

  • well it comes down to this if a gay solider and a straight solider are side by side at war and you know he's got your back its not gonna matter with what his sexual preference is.

  • Did President Truman send out a survey asking troops how they would feel about desegregation? NOPE! This is absurd.

  • @MrMusicFlood I agree, this is stupid.

  • Do homophobes have a right to be born homophobic? Should they(and their perspective) be respected as equal? Should gay people dislike (or even HATE) homophobes that cannot change their biology?

  • @1911collector Irrefutable logic.

  • What if a person is born homophobic. They are born with desires to have intercourse with the opposite sex, and ever since birth they would have an immediate adverse reaction to the thought of intercourse with the same sex. they have NO control over those feelings they experience as the way they were born. What if the way they are biologically and physiologically wired forces them to be physically ill at the thought of homosexual intercourse? What if there is nothing they can do, it is hardwired?

  • @1911collector You are not born a homophobe, just like you are not born racist. You are taught to feel that way. It is something that can be changed.

  • @1911collector People born with desires for the opposite sex would be heterosexual not homophobic. You are born gay or straight but people are taught to be homophobic or not homophobic.

  • @equalityboy81 I don't think you read my comment. I didn't confuse heterosexuality with homophobia like you, who got caught wishfully assuming. How can you deny that a person can be wired homophobic from birth? That due to the way they are wired, that the first time in their life that they hear, see, or are introduced to the thought of homosexuality, that they are rendered physically ill at the mental image, and feel mentally violated, offended and disgusted and yes, truly genuinely traumatized?

  • @1911collector Well people with the mental illness of homophobia need mental help.

  • @equalityboy81 -said: "Well people with the mental illness of homophobia need mental help. "

    Are you sure?

    Is that fair?

    Is that Control?

Is any genuine desire to control the mind and behavior of equal human beings inherently evil and a crime against humanity itself?

Might they have a right to their own intellectual integrity?

Might they have a right to retain their own state of mind?

Might they have a right to keep their original and natural physiology and biology intact?

  • @1911collector doesnt mean they have a right to reduce other people's rights just means they should stay away from homosexuals not that hard never go to san fran either

  • Objective title lol

  • Just keep crying homophobia. Don't find out how people actually feel about the issue or anything responsible like that.

  • @ctrsnarebear When were the troops surveyed about having to serve side-by-side with Jews or even showering totally nude with Muslims? Some people of faith are totally offended by the lifestyle choice of non-Christians like Jews and Muslims. Don't they get a say?

  • Wonder if they have a question on whether or not the US should end the war...oh wait...their actual lives and risk of violent death are irrelevant...the only thing that matters is whether or not they get looked at in the shower by somebody they 'know' to be gay, or just speculate about.

  • and another thing.....Our so call "president" is too busy playing golf. We should worry about the Oil and The Border...and wait what about the WAR! Let see if I see a gay in the military looking or acting out. I'll beat his ass with a golf club. Like our Commander and Chief....does to a golf ball

  • Comment removed

  • Barbara Starr ..is gay. There was two gay guys in basic and we beat the living shit out of them. Drill sgt told us if we wanted to then thats our rights. I'm a USAR and if I get that email....tell you one thing its not happening. NO GAYS...dont want them to break a nail or something.

  • @Armedforcesguy That is pure fucked up shit, I wish you would try to beat my brother with a golf club, I'd make sure you wouldn't live to tell the story. How 'bout you take it and shove it up your ass?

  • @Dreamydre15 ....not going to happen sister!...its too busy up your brothers ass. He might get piss off at you if you take it out.

  • @Armedforcesguy bahaha good one, where'd you get that? The interesting joke store you work at? And while we're at it, why are you even thinking of a golf club being shoved up my brothers ass? What is that some freakish homosexual fetish??

  • @Dreamydre15 .....Wrong again. 0 for 2...huh? unlike you I dont work for shoprite push carts. I work for the DOD and the USAR. maybe....ummm are you going to tell? oh no.... how about you shave your beard or mustache....lose like 60lbs and join the armed forces and be something. Hooah

  • @Armedforcesguy Shame. Sadly you don't know anything about me to base your assumptions on. So with a final ado, my last words to you dear mam/sir is that I hope you get what you deserve in life. And I don't think that's a good thing. Peace!

  • @Dreamydre15 oh I do know you....and sadly you dont of me. We all get what we deserve...its just that some people get it faster than others. I'll make sure I put my shopping cart back so you dont stain yourself in this hot weather.

  • @Armedforcesguy "We all get what we deserve" Hmm.... My immediate reaction to somebody saying that phrase is fear. It is scary from my perspective to observe an individual who finds comfort in the hope that collective punishment will negatively affect the lives of their fellow human beings. Imagine, just use your imagination please and give yourself the chance and time to use your brain energy in a positive way. Focus on this- We human beings are part of the Earth. Choose the way of the Earth.

  • @1911collector ....what are you talking about? You call this Earth and which we live in it. I think you need to finally get out of your house and look around. The world changes every min. I dont find comfort in the hope that collective punishment will negatively affect the other guy. I do whatever my SSG tells me. Hooah! Survival is the only answer we have in the next few years. If we choose the way of the earth then we are some fuck up people.

  • @Armedforcesguy ur an idiot ur in the military to fight for american's rights why can u have yours and gays cant DUMBASS HIPOCRITE

  • Comment removed

  • i dont understand why they cut it out.. maybe to shorten it.

  • I fail to see how she is "defending a homophobic DADT survey." There's nothing defensive about her remarks. She might be conjecturing, but that's about it.

  • This is panic about nothing. Gay people have always served in the military!

Jeezus goddamn fucking christ, what idiots. And most service people don't care!

Why isn't this woman concerned that 1-in-3 women in the military are raped? (google it! i can't put links here.)

Heterosexual men are the ones who cannot fucking control themselves.

  • Comment removed

  • This is no different from issuing a white-only survey asking if white soldiers feel comfortable serving alongside Arab soldiers, or black soldiers, etc. Who knows what questions they would come up with? I can just imagine some of the crap in this 100+ question survey, designed for a straight-only audience. It's extremely offensive and unnecessary. Civil rights should never be voted on.

  • @AdamSunnyFlanders But they aren't only asking straight soldiers, they are asking gay soldiers as well. It's more like asking women if they feel comfortable showering alongside men. I'm not ashamed to say that I would not be comfortable showering alongside a gay man.

  • @mattschol The survey is only targeted toward straight men. Yeah, some closeted gay men will likely answer, but the results will be highly skewed. Why would you ask a gay man if he'd be comfortable showering with another gay man? That would be the same as asking a woman if she'd be comfortable showering alongside another woman, for the purposes of seeing if we should ban women from the military. It makes no sense whatsoever.

  • @AdamSunnyFlanders Skewed? The results will be representative of the army population. Not at all man. The reason most straight/gay guys would be uncomfortable showering with a gay man is that they are worried about the gay man being sexually attracted to them. I don't want some dude looking lustily at me naked. I don't like it, but it's just not practical to have openly gay men and women in the military.

  • @mattschol Perhaps you'd also be uncomfortable showering next to a black man because he'd give you some sort of disease or make you dirty. You might think that's a racist comment (and it is), but it was a common concern among white soldiers when it was proposed that blacks be allowed in the military, and it's just as ignorant as current concerns about gays in the shower. Yet at that time the government didn't take the highly offensive action of surveying all the white men to ask them about it.

  • @AdamSunnyFlanders No, i would not be uncomfortable showering next to a black man. Those concerns were unfounded, and thus black men are welcome in the military. I just think there is going to be a hell of a lot of abuse if this gets overturned. The armed forces have enough abuse problems as it is. We can't close our eyes and shut our ears and act like everyone will be cool and nice. You are worried about offending people, I'm worried about practicality.

  • @mattschol Actually the practical reality is that there are already gay men and women serving in the military and there is very little abuse. In fact, it's heterosexual men who most often commit such abuses against heterosexual women in the military. Military women are five times more likely to be raped by a fellow male soldier than they are to be seriously injured or killed by an enemy soldier. The concerns about gay men are just as unfounded and the repeal is inevitable.

  • @AdamSunnyFlanders Well the problem is that without dadt the gays in the military will be free to express their attraction to other men in their unit, this will cause problems. I suspect this survey will confirm that having an openly gay man in a unit will be problematic. The repeal will happen, hopefully things will be done to mitigate the inevitable conflicts. It's just foolish to ignore the inevitable sexual victimization.

  • I have a shorter clip up now of just the segment that CNN edited out.

  • If you compare this video to the edited one that CNN posted on their site, it is quite interesting that they chose to remove the part when Drew Griffin challenges Barbara as to why the survey is needed at all. Barbara makes some ludicrous arguments in trying to justify the survey and obviously CNN was embarrassed by her unprofessionalism.

  • Blah, blah, blah.

  • Holy crap! CNN specifically censored and cut out the part from 2:26 to 4:39.

  • @FreedomUSA1 Good catch. Drew asks a good question about why we would need to survey the troops about civil rights at all. Barbara seems to go out of her way to rationalize why the homophobes must be heard and acknowledged. A low point for CNN.

  • @RonMattieau I didn't think this was rationalizing at all. She answered Drew's question and told why the military wanted the survey. Another example of bs web blow up.

  • @FreedomUSA1, they edited it out because the grandstanding CNN anchor Drew Griffin's question suggested that the troops' feelings and opinions should not matter. CNN did not want to be seen as anti-military, which they are. These pro-homosexual agenda people don't care about what's best for our military... they only want forced acceptance for their sexual activities and to be able to do it wherever and whenever they like.

  • Wow, CNN just posted the segment on their site but CAREFULLY EDITED OUT the part where Barbara defends and justifies the survey after Drew questions her. CNN censored the comments.

  • Funny how Drew Griffin actually grovels at the end and apologizes to Barbara for having the audacity of questioning the rationale of the survey.
