Love to see the trains ! I love them... Now I enjoy taking the ICE from Paris to Frankfurt and back again.... Or from Köln to Berlin, and then to München ! Thanks for posting this!
To all you people who probarbly cant speak German and are talking about how poor the stupid communists are! Have you ever heard about heritage trains and historic trains. There are signs saying Sonderfahrt in this video that means special ride. Yes DDR abandoned steam later than BRD but what we see here is a historic train. The electric S-bahn EMU's are the only train in regular service at the time. the last of them was taken out of service in 1997.
Wow. This shows how communists were really poor. I'm so glad USA gave Germany its freedom. Why are there socialists even today? They should see this, see how poor communists were!
@tannalv This shows that Americans can only speak one language and are very well educated. Can u understand the German language? Guess not. If you could you could hear that it's about tourist/historical trains in the GDR. The GDR had normal trains like every other country with a reasonable GDP.
@ErikHonecker But East-Germany didn't have a reasonable GDP. They were bankrupt after all, hence they had to use these 50 year old trains. Eastern Europe could never hold up against the free world. Socialism = shared poverty. Capitalism = everybody works to advance them selves which means everyone gains from it.
@tannalv East Germany had one a reasonable GDP and yes at the end it was almost bankrupt of what we see a lot of examples in capitalistic countries like the USA with a dept of 14.345 billion dollars (65% of GDP!!). The fact that in a capitalism means everyone gains is incorrect too. The USA has a gini-coefficient of 40,8 which places the USA in the ranking next to Senegal (third world). That means that the inequality in the USA is very big and that many people are living in shared poverty!
@djdjerojr What are you trying to say? You're just showing your ignorance since you don't know how capitalism works. If you take up a loan in the bank to buy a house you suddenly have a large debt, but you own a house that is worth more than you owe. So on paper it looks like you are in trouble, but in real life you aren't.
So this debt just proves capitalism works! Under communism, however, you would be in deep s**t...

Wonderful video. Thanks so much for sharing it. The drivers and rods almost seem delicate compared to American steam

Das ist er definitiv. Schon von der Sprache / von Akzent her. Aber in einer anderen Aufnahme ist er als Lokführer zu sehen (ab 6:53).
Der ist / war auch Stammlokführer auf der 18 201.
