Don't want to seem like I'm being critical or anything, but weed is STILL illegal in Amsterdam.

The most the cops will do is tell you to put it out, but still, don't be an annoying tourist.

Smoke in the shop, around the shop, or in your hotel.

At the very least do it out of respect for the Dam :-)

Though marijuana is very widely accepted, it's still treated much like alcohol in that in most cases the locals would prefer you keep your wares in the coffeeshop or in the privacy of your hotel/home/whatever.
