  • good job..well done

  • the hard part of this bass line is to get the rythm right and not to rush or slow down.

  • oh them rednecks....

  • You're good but That sounds unidimensional and flat, in one word that sounds white...

  • BERNARD PLAYS IT IN 1ST AND 2ND POSITION E IS E AND A IS A LIKE IT OR NOT I LEARNED ALL 1ST POSITION MYSELF AT FIRST DIDNT HAVE THE CHANCE TO SEE BERNARD PLAY THE FIGURE

  • he seems to be a nice guy guys..... stop hating on him

sure it's not the same with the original but it sure is easier for beginners to learn~

not sure whether that's what he's trying to do (i'd advice carolinabgrass to give a warning that it's not the exact bassline next time to avoid the hate)

i understand this is a very famous bassline

but hey he took the time to try and pass on what he has learned and i think that should be appreciated

    great job carolinabgrass ;)

    keep playing and teaching

  • is that the first time you tried slapping, because .....................your shit. no offence.

  • That is a HORRIBLE attempt at the Chic bass line. And you're trying to teach this?

Did you yourself even take bass lessons? Do you have a bass teacher ? Do you have a lawyer? If so, call your lawyer and SUE your bass teacher.

  • @Thopter way to be a complete dick

  • ever heard about dorian?

  • @brammerd

Yes apparently he was one crazy motherfucker who died trying to take over the world...

  • if anyone would like to learn how to play this song an alternative way, please check out the lesson on my channel!

  • songs ok, that warwick bass is pretty legit! might be a rockbass model though, still sick.

  • Nice one dude, thats helped me get an A* in my GCSE Music coursework! Awesome!

  • The biggest problem with your "lesson" is the following: There's a kiddy or simple a beginner bassist. So he enters the keywords into the searchbar and find this absolutely wrong version of the bass cover of that music. When someone posts a video as a lesson that's responsible for its content and for the beginner who watch that and try to learn what shown in the video!

  • there's only one thing wrong with your playing........you cant

  • while you cover it in the beginning I can hear something a bit out of pack I'm afraid.

this piece wants short notes, too.

    Good educational video though!

    Keep posting and thanks

  • a bit out of pack I'm afraid.

this piece wants short notes, too.

  • out of pack!

this piece wants short notes, though!

  • out of pack!

  • I'm afraid mookie is right, you have this all wrong. Search for Guy Pratt Disco Bass Lines to see it done by a professional ;-)

    Good luck!

  • u have to be the worst person i've ever seen try to teach someone to play bass u say the notes wrong..

    at the wrong times

  • Comment removed

  • Some are saying your groove is wrong, again I disagree. When you are trying to give a lesson, you can't really teach groove, you have to teach notes, groove will come later. I am sure you can groove this song when not teaching. I would just shut off the comment section if a bunch of jerk offs are going to give you crap. Keep doing this for us.

  • Listen, if your gonna "teach" something the least you can do is get it right.

No matter which way you look at it this IS the wrong way to play this. Aint no "groove" going i'm afraid. Your playing the right notes but it just doesn't flow. Songs like this are ALL about the feel and the groove and you 'aint got none. Don't take it personally.

  • i like playing open E and A on this song. That little walk I play differently but I believe if you put a hundred different bass players in a room all would have some minor difference in this song. Great job man!

  • You could watch your bass and try to make this fabulous bassline a lil' bit more groovy instead of watching the camera and trying to seduce us...

  • genial

  • esta chido el cover¡¡

  • Yeah, shut your face Mookie! Hey are you Obama's cousin Mookie?

  • I agree. Bite it Mookie! it was a very good toutorial. Are you cousin Mookie that Obama was talking about?

  • Thanks for the lesson...it help me

  • kool nice job and thank you for the very accurate break down

  • isnt this considered one of the harder rifts to play?

  • well bro the onlything im sayin is dont do an opening part or start of playin the riff because when u played the opening... well it wasnt all that just a suggestion

  • your lessons are helping me on my banjo----THANKS!!!!

  • sweat!!!!! thanks for talking through each note...

  • What strings do you use?

  • "Bern-Ard" ? Surely Bernard should be pronounced "Bernind" for god sake!!!???

  • Thanks nice bass playing this is the only video i found that acually went through the notes slowly thanks x

  • Nice playing...... even though that isnt how it is played on the track it was awesome how you put your own little twist in it.

  • this bassline is deceptively simple, yet its so hard to play it in the right groove so consistent. I still have trouble with it. It's all about the placement of the notes and the consistency of doing so. Truthfully, you don't have it down yet either. The main mistake is that the A for the second half of the riff comes on the last 16th of the first bar, NOT on the 1 of the second bar. Anyway, much respect to you, sir! Keep doin what you're doin'! I am not good enough to make a bass video yet. lol

  • Really enjoyed the lesson...listening and seeing how the play the notes I thought it would be hard but you nailed to the t!...thanks!

  • Awesome, thanks for explaining the whole "open - hammer" part, ty ty

  • Thanks

  • Hey great tutorial thank you very much. I have been truying for ages to get this

  • Hi, Can you offer any further help on any of the amazing bass pieces that the likes of Barry Johnson play please. I have all the dvds of chic and any help would be well appreciated. REgards

  • thank you so much you helped me alot

  • al minuto 1.08 digerisce

  • is that a thunderbird bass

  • Great! Thanks.

  • Awesome thanks man, this is so fun to play!

  • lil hard but still learning could u send me tabs so i dont have to keep loading up youtube to play thanks man

  • Thanks for breaking it down for us!

  • Good job. Great bass tune. Chic was a great band. Killer grooves.

  • Thanks man! Awesome vid! You should do more how-tos!

  • Dude you make it seem so easy .. good job man.

  • I agree with gabito.

  • Nice work. Ok some of the timing was a little out, but that bassline is what made me take up the bass and having never had a lesson I could never quite figure out the tricky bit on the top notes, because I never realised it was a kind of 'pedalling' on the d string. I tried to make up for it with fast finger picking rather than hammers. So cheers to the guy on the vid, you might not be the world's best bassist according to some of the comments on here, but you helped me out a lot - nice one!

  • just would like to add again ,,,very helpful video there,,swinging ,, booty ,,,,

now you find a few jamiriqui freaks disbeliving that , guess they will also learn from your video,,thangs dont always look how they sound ,,

warp factor 5,1,,,, Kirk out ,,,,,

  • Well, even though it may be wrong, it is damn close and was a good effort, no point being a bassist if you go around telling people they are wrong.....ARE YOU ALL GUITARISTS?!

  • your tabs were very helpful,,

peace ,,, make the funk be with you

  • the notes need to be far more sticcato (shorter and separate from each other) for it to groove properly.

  • Gabito, mookie and boongg, wow you guys must be great musicians to criticise so expertly. In fact, you seem to know so much, why don't you post your tutorials to show us all how it should be done? Can't wait! (Though I suspect we'll be waiting a long, long, long time!)

  • When you post a tutorial YOU asume the responsability of teaching. So take on it.

  • Bernard Edwards is crying in his grave, you are wrong in groove and notes!

  • I agree...

  • Boongg you obviously don't know what you are talking about...listen to yourself carefully!

  • Boongg's right. This guy gets the feel of the line completely wrong - it's as if he hasn't really bothered listening to what he's playing. And it's not even a difficult line to play.

  • Your rhythm is wrong.. Listen to the song carefully.

  • Good Job! Can't get any simpler then that.

  • gordo de mierda

  • oooh is that a warwick corvette? lovely

  • Great, thanks! One question though: why don't you use G (5th fret) on the D string instead of open G? I think it sounds nicer and it is also easier. Fantastic baseline.

  • awsome tutorial, i had to pause it a million times but i finaly got it :b

    thnx

  • This has got to be one of the most wrecked bass lines on Youtube...

  • thanks.pls let me have the tab of this if possible.keep funkin

  • You did the best job of explaining this popular bass line. Thanks

  • Thanks for the clear, easy to follow instructions. I'm a beginner bass player and that's one of my all time favorites. With your tips, I'm off to practice!

    Cheers, Pete

  • Thanks for the vid! Bernard Edwards, what a ledgend. collapsed on stage in time with the music.

  • this has inspired me to have another go at playing bass. thanks !

  • Nice little video there, thanks for taking the time to make it.

  • sure could use the tabs if poss.thanks great work

  • From one country boy to another, thanks for the great video! I was struggling with this bass line but now I've got it down pretty well already thanks to you.

  • Great video, Helped alot. Thanks =D

  • Thanks a lot, this is one of the best lesson videos i've seen on youtube

  • pas tres carré -_-

  • cool I can now play it but you should say that you dont pop the string in the " hard part" only 2 times I neede to figure out why it is listening so different when I was trying to do with 4 pops.

  • thats pretty cool on the second part of the a string , my bass teacher is doing something a lil different and its kinda hard for me to get it, but the way you did it i will have try that, sounds good to me.

  • good taste

  • I'm afraid you have the feel of the line, and even some of the notes, wrong. Go away and get them right. Then come back and give us a 'lesson'...

  • better yet mookie, why don't you grab a bass and give us all the lesson yourself since you obviously know so much more than me. i will be waiting on your video.

  • Questions...Is that a passive bass? and what is the width at the nut? thanks! Nice groove.

  • The slapping at the start is 100% Caemembert by the way.

  • @mookie2637 Why are you such a prick? He's giving free lessons for those who want it, if you don't like it then go to another video or fucking learn it yourself.

  • @SuperiorSwagon1 why feel the need to personally insult someone? I'm not the only one here who feels this is a very, very poor job. Or do you feel that we should be prohibited from saying so?

  • @mookie2637 I don't feel that you have to be prohibited from speaking your mind (even though you are a prick)..but if you get to do so then I believe i can as well..good day sir......

  • @carolinabgrass i would expect more patience from a lover of God...anyway good lesson

  • @carolinabgrass he still aint put one up yet it annoys me when people have all the chat and no action thank you for the tutorial :)

  • @carolinabgrass i think @mookie2637 os rigth

  • @carolinabgrass Hey man, I recognized that NC accent from when I was in the Marine Corps stationed in Camp Lejeune. I wanted to comment on what mookie2637 said to you. I think he was completely wrong in his statement and attitude. I have been playing bass for 25 years, and never quite had this song right. After watching how you played it, I played it and it finally sounded right. Some of us actually appreciate you giving us lessons. Screw jerk offs, keep helping us who want to learn, learn

  • One of the best lessons ive seen for a while.

Thanks a lot for this, its been a great help.

  • @mookie2637 Damn kid, you just need to learn the difference between criticism and trolling.

  • Many thanks , very nice one man, that helped a lot. for a real rookie like myself...every tab I read just seem right!

@ 2:50 I find it is easier to play open D, E,D, Gb,G, Gb...as I can't mute the strings as well as your goodself and that G strigs rings like bell!

    Keep it up, more please!

    Richard in London

  • Thank jou for a great lesson.

    Thanxs,

    Michel Willemsen

  • dude that warwick corvette has GOT TO GO, you need a nice 72 jazz bass for this song!!!!!

  • brilliant stuff - thanks a lot man!

  • ca manque un peu de chaleur

  • Good stuff my friend... Lovely bass too...

  • THanks, I love my Warwick

  • Cheers mate! Quality tune!

  • This is very helpful, thanks. Please make more videos

  • I love playing Chic basslines.. they make me feel good. I can play 'I want your love' and now I will learn to play this!! And feel even better! Thanks man.

  • Me too. Bernard Edwards groove was phenomenal. Makes me smile everytime I play any of his lines.

  • nice one

  • where is the groove???

  • You are right........This is a lesson not a performance! Hard to groove a slowed down lesson.

  • @carolinabgrass it's not slowed down, you're playing along to the track. lol.

  • that really helped couldn't work out the second bit from the song this is great!

  • can you send the tab over ? :)

  • Sorry, I never wrote a tab for this.

  • Very helpful..smooth groove.....b great if you can forward TAB.........Tks

  • Thanks for the friendly sharing!

  • thanks for shearing that bro been trying to do that for a long time(cracked it now)

  • Thanks a lot!

This tutorial helped me A LOT!

  • Your shirt is sweet!

  • Thanks, most of my shirts come from "the buckle" my favorite store.

  • Thanks for this Carolina - was an excellent lesson and well played too. I am looking forward to your othewr video's Bro.

  • Thank u dude, it seems like this is played various ways. This was very informative n easy.

  • Very nice lesson. Thank you very much!!

  • good stuff..nice couch too

  • A very nice video, thanks for helping out :D

  • Hey man you've made the best, thorough lesson I could find on YouTube. This was very helpful and it won't take me long to learn since you went over it note by note. Is it possible we might see some more Chic lessons from you? :D

  • Thanks for the great lesson. I've been trying to learn that for the longest time. You explained it well and went over the harder part twice so I could keep replaying it until I got it.

One thing that about guys who show how to play a riff don't take into consideration is the repaly we learners have to do and with all that extra talking it gets tough but you kept it simple! Great job man. I subscribed.

  • Thanks for the kind comment! I hope to make a few more tutorials in the next couple of weeks.

  • thanks man very nice bassline and well played... only very difficault to learn. keep uploading your lessons please myself and alot of people will be much helped!!!!

  • Thanks for pointing that out, i didn't know of these hammer-ons in the part playing up from the A string!

  • THanks for taking the time to post this! Good to see there are a lot of us Chic fans!Keep it up. Now with your video, I need to practice, practice, practice!!

    Thanks again!!

  • I'm a complete and utter beginner, I think this way looks easier to play.

    Please post the tab.

I'm a work and not near my bass. (shhhh!, don't tell)

  • Nice lesson man , you play it in a different position than that guy thechineseway is there a reason for that?.

  • Just the way I am able to play and not have to move all over the place. I originally learned it the other way but found that I liked playing it this way better. There is no wrong or right way.....at the end of the day we are all creating music no matter where we place our hands.

    Thanks for the comment friend.
