This glory hole is real. Come on people.. The Dam is HUGE.. When the water is low and is not going over the spillway, there is a tunnel a couple feet below to continue producing power from the water.. I'll have to upload a video and a couple pictures. Will link it here..

The water level is going to stay the same because the water flows down the spillway at the same rate as it flow into the reservoir. That's what it's designed to do....

What would actually happen if you jump into this thing. If it is just an over-flow dam then you should be fine, depending on how deep it is. You can simply walk out at the other side of the pipe. Jump into this pipe and come out at the other side into the creek or river that it drains into. What is really the problem?

Whats the problem???? Do you know how much force there is in a reservoir 13,900 acres big. Even if it was a straight through pipe you would be bashed around by unimaginable currents which would shatter your bones and you would come out the other end as limp as a jellyfish.

Well, sure, also depends on the water level, which in turn determines how much water flows down the pipe, depth and so on. Of course you always run the risk of serious injury and death trying a stunt with one of these things but survival would not be impossible. I would say you have a good 50-50 chance of making it out alive. Then again, I have never tried it.

Really? looking at the water entering the pipe, there is only a BIT of water actually entering the pipe. This of course depends on the level of the water in the basin. The pipe would not even be completely filled up at the other end. You should be able to ride this thing down, depending on how deep it is.

My family used to camp at Owyhee all the time and I remember seeing the Glory Hole for the first time at about 4 or 5 years old when it wasn't under water... It scared the living daylights out of me! And it didn't help that my older sister kept telling me that a little boy lost his ball in the "funnel" and died going in after it.

Now looking at it, it's really interesting! Especially watching it in action... People really knew what they were doing when they built the entire dam!

It would be scary if you feel in the water near to it and the current pushed and sucked you towards the glory hole! It’s not exactly a glorified way to go being sucked down the glory hole!

I think this is an overflow not an intake for a turbine, those are usually near the base of the dam and you wouldn't see this because the air drawn in would cause a heating and damage by cavitation

It's nothing "paranormal". Its actually an overflow design used by some Damn Structures to prevent flooding the damn. Check wikipedia.

I was taken back a bit on my first glance, but some further research provided the answer.

I live here ^_^- this happened when I was either in 8th or 9th grade, so I remember very well all of the adults being very upset and all the sandbags around the nearby houses because the river was swelling and flooding the area (we had quite a bit of rain that year...). To those thinking the Glory Hole is fake: you just can't see it at the moment- when the lake is at it's normal level, that Glory hole appears as a giant, concrete tube sticking out of the water.
