  • so i records their audio but i can't hear them so what good will this do me? can u help me out?

  • i have a problem it only records my audio and not friends?

  • hello all. He missed something that you need to do for my computer.

in sound control panel right click on "stereo mix" and select "properties"

click the "listen tab" then toggle the "listen to this device" tab.

    Now it works great!

ps. you need to turn off playback through stereo otherwise you get an echo (because you are recording from the same device you are playing back)

  • Do you have to have a Headset for this?

  • I don't get the Stereo Mix under my sound>recording menu. why not?

  • Is this for a desktop application only? The reason I ask is because I am using a laptop and want to do just this, but it's not letting me.

  • Thanks Works!!! :D

  • use this in conjunction with Sound Recorder to get my end of the call - saved me from buying some useless software, thanks!

  • Also on the Sound menu my Stereo Mix just says Ready not Working. How do I change this?

  • Doesn't work when I hit properties it doesn't have that menu HELP

  • A 6 minute video on how to click 3 things?

  • just what i needed for my podcast. thanks for sharing

  • will the files be supported on windows movie maker?

  • u shoulda turned ur mic up louder then redid this because i can barely hear you

  • Ive set this up, but when I record a skype call, the other side of the call is really quiet but im loud, am i missing something obvious as to change the volume control of the skype call?

  • When I go into my audiocity preferences it doesnt give me the choice of audio, does anyone know where i should go instead?

  • hey i did all of this and it still wont work and audio mix isint outputing any sound is there some software similer to audio mix that i can install please someone help

  • Thnx so much really helped!

  • I seem to create a feedback loop by doing this - any idea what I've done wrong?

  • Never mind - just figured it out. In "preferences" > "recording" ensure that "software playthrough" is disabled.

  • I have set it up exactly as per your video - but i face problem faced by others in the comments here - the stero mixer is supposed to play both the youtube song and my voice - but in my case audacity picks up only the youtube or skype incoming - it does not pick up what i am speaking in my mic. I know people have suggested recording my voice in another program - but then it defeats the whole purpose of stero mixer - where am i going wrong - pl guide.

  • Do you know how to do this with 1.3 beta?

  • @yugnoswam4

Edit > Preferences > Devices > (under Recording) Device [drop down]

  • There's no audio mixer on Xp pro.

  • Thanks a lot man! life saver!!!

  • what are hot keys ? to start can i check somewhere

  • @gmb1234 can hear my self but no the skype call / yt vid

  • @gmb1234 my preferences look different 2 yours ??

  • I was able to get audio from both the mic and gmail to record into audacity. I sent the mic through the speakers by selecting [ ] Listen to this device in the Listen tab of the microphone properties. Not sure exactly how "stereo mix" works, but i figure that what ever goes through the speakers is what you be fed into it. The machine im using this on is an HP media center that has a Realtek soundcard.

  • This really helped. Just one question. I am trying to play an online game on the computer with my friend, while talking with him, and I want to make that into a YouTube video. How can i record my voice, and his voice off of skype?

  • thx for the vid but its way too long, plz cut the crap and unnecesary comments

  • it's not a good idée

  • what software shall i use to record my own voice?

  • what programe would i need to record my voice?

  • does this work if your wearing headphones

  • in that tab that you have open at 2:53 all i have is my mic icon and thats it polease help

  • go down and find your time, i have absolutely no idea what hes talking about

  • I have a problem. When I record things (like Skype calls or other things from my computer) my voice, or my microphone, is much louder than everything else. You can barely hear everything else!

    I don't know what's happening...

  • Do you have 'listen to this device' checked in the microphone properties?

  • I updated my audio driver and stereo mix was added after a restart. =)

  • 2:30

  • thank you so much!

  • ok i have a friend thats online

how can i record his voice and mine please helppp

  • Hey can u help me on skype?whats ur skype name?

  • Cool video! Question: When I try recording calls w/Audacity, the other person always tells me they hear an echo...and that's when I set my sound card to 'stereo mix', versus the default 'microphone'. Of course, when my sound card is set to 'microphone', then the sound is normal, but of course the other side of the conversation isn't being picked up. Any advice? Thanks

  • @MrSixFive I have the same problem.

  • @MrSixFive Try changing the playback device in the microphone properties to something other than your speakers.

  • will it record my voice and my friends voice?

  • @struggle375

You need to use another program to capture your audio.

  • @gmb1234 but why would u need another program if audacity shows it capturing your voice??? Shouldnt it record your voice and your friends voice since it shows both r being recorded

  • @gmb1234 HOW?

  • @gmb1234 i wanna do a dual comm with my friends, will that work in skype?

  • I did exactly what you did, and hit record while watching this video. It didn't pick up anything.

  • Just curious what program did you use to make this video?

  • @benwizkid It's in the damn title. The logo is even visible throughout the whole video.. Are you blind?

  • @Nannirk Thanks for pointing out my disabilities man

  • @benwizkid Camtasia Studio

  • @gmb1234 alright thanks

  • how do you get to the sound window

  • i click show disabled divices and nothing comes up... GREAT

  • Audacity only records stereo mix when it's set as default. Do you know why this might be?

  • u failed big sorry..

  • Ok so I have enabled stereo mix. I have set the recording device to it in both Skype and Audactiy, but when I record the test call, I only get what the skype lady says, nothing from my mic. I am using a headset with a mic, if that matters.

  • @OhMyAshes

Hey, i noticed my headset mic was really quiet and so I used "Sound recorder" to capture that audio stream and then just mixed the two in audacity afterward.

    Hope this helps

  • For me, instead of Stereo Mix, it says Wave Out Mix. It's the same one that records the audio of whatever YouTube video I'm watching. So I do know how to record the Skype calls, however, my voice can't be heard in the Skype calls because I can only choose one, between Microphone and Wave Out Mix. I have Windows XP, so yeah.

  • I noticed my voice was very faint so i use a seperate program to record my voice and i just mix the two audio tracks to make one file.

  • duuuude this works so well thanks. your vid is way better than most others

  • Thanks, hope it works for you :)

  • worked great subbed ya
