  • I remember seeing them at a KROQ concert in LA back in 1989.

  • They don't make them like that any more :(

I assume this was off some daytime TV show? They changed "I get it every day" to "I see him every day"

  • Reminds me of working shifts at Selly Oak Hospital as a Student Nurse. Good times (sigh)

  • Is that the drummer from Madness ?

  • @fuckorf yes.

  • @fuckorf yes, that is woody woodgate

  • @fuckorf

    yep,woodys is on a break.....

  • Looks like Pebble Mill to me. Fab tune. Love it! Saw them in London quite a few years ago supporting The Wonder Stuff. Met them in the foyer and they said their friends at home don't believe they still have a following. We gave them our tickets to take home to prove it to their friends. Lovely people and just great music.

  • nice feel good song!

  • would of done the pair of them lol

  • @sam4colin TWICE!!!!!!

  • how could a band be this good and not be a household name ?

the B52s were their mom and The Smiths were their dad ...

  • Great memory of these. I was working 12 hour nights in a factory and had a big old ghetto blaster pumping this and many other late 80's tunes out. Thanks for posting.

  • @MrSkydog haha thats funny this song reminds me of peeling spuds, i was working in a hotel at the time as a kp and i had to peel a shit load of spuds whilst listning to this album on loop i was only 16 and had alredy landed on me feet. I said nothin and neither did the spuds

  • Do they still perform today??? Someone said they were Sisters...I am wondering because I sure would like to see them today!!! Great Tune!!! I was 25 in 1988 and somehow I missed this song when it came out....perhaps due to the fact it wasn't a hit here in the States??? I think I would have remembered it. Another Group that was popular that year I never heard of was Propaganda!!!

  • Didn't they give a name check to 'Tunpike Lane' north london in one song? or did I dream that?☺

  • saw live in london years ago - lip sync here for sure

  • thanks for your work on this - love your taste

  • one of my all-time favorite bands, sadley they never seemed to to be as they should have been here in the states.... I think that the B52's took they're niche'

  • Catcht tunes, great rhythm. That accent does sound funny though, really accentuated here.

  • i love this song! i love this band!

  • Can't help but smile when I hear this!

  • @fionamacneil me too, its a great track...

  • sOO GrEAT ..WhAT A HaPPy SoNG ! l(:

  • its just brilliant!

  • finally i've found it!!!!!!!! i always thought this was strawberry switchblade (sincere apologies/dont want to offend) radio 2 played their single 'dont call me baby' which i've heard loads of times, and i thought,..... hang on this sounds like ...................fuck me o'rielly!!!!

  • o wow you saw INXS w/ VOTB? すごい

  • I went to see INXS because VOTB were supporting! Damn I miss going round the country seeing them :(

I'm sure this was taken at the Glasgow Garden Festival.

IMO VOTB and Strawberry Switchblade were nothing like each other!

  • I've added the 2 music videos to this song in HQ as replies to this one.

  • That chap on the drums is Woody from Madness! Think he married one of them. If you like this, you'll love Strawberry Switchblade...

  • @drawlbag

Woody didn't marry one of them, he was already married. Don't think either Tracey or Melissa ever married

  • yes

  • Classic... who could not like this!

  • I think The Bangles have nothing on this band :)

  • Great stuff . Saw them live in Glasgow supporting INXS just before they hit the charts , think i was about the only one that had heard of them . Hugely underrated in my book

  • @wigs7 fantastic band

  • Great blast from the past!

  • Bring back the good memories of my High school days in the Philippines,. NU107 used to play their songs back then

    Thanks for posting

  • what a f**king tune

  • Here's an odd collaboration...How about this band crossed with the bangles. The harmonies, phonics and differences would mak an amazing compilation. Oh, and also...Screw off Country of Brasil.

  • It also contains the great lines, "That's why I sometimes stand alone at parties/That's why I drink, so I'll be who they think I am"... which is almost profound in some way!

  • Brilliant! - Good to see them again. I remember they recorded another version of this song with some naughty words in a couple of lines... quite fun. And what great dress sense the gals had! Thanks for posting this :)

  • Fantastic!!!

  • The Program is Pebblemill

    Believe it or not

    I recognise the set

  • "Pebble Mill at One" wasn't filmed next to a river - and it finished in 1986. This is more likely BBC's 1988/9 summer Saturday morning show "On The Waterfront"

  • Pebble mill (the building) is on a river

  • Is it as wide as the river in the background..?

  • its pretty wide yes

as i say that is the pebble mill set (in the pebble mill studio)

and it was in use up until 2003 (for various programs)

its still in use but now only for admin and training as far as I know

  • God I love youtube! I used to play this group on my college station.

  • back in the days when music was good and artists could play instruments!

  • So good to hear after so many years, that was real pop music with a such a happy fun vibe and thae girls were cute too.

  • They look cool and current 20 years down the road. And the music is better than anything on the radio today. Awesome.

  • yes he was, wow i love voice of the beehive from the late 80`s they rule nice to hear them again

  • The drummer was originally in Madness, wasn't he?

The set looks like BBC lunchtime programme Pebble Mill at One or one of its late 80's replacements, by the looks of it.

  • It was a late 80's BBC afternoon show called The Garden Party. Richard Jobson(The Skids) used to have a music section within the show called Jobson's Choice. I always believed it to have been filmed in Scotland. And yes, the drummer is Woody out of Madness.

  • Drummer is Dan 'Woody' Woodgate. Still the drummer in Madness.

  • awsome, thanks for posting. The drummer looks familiar, anyone know where from?

  • Yep I Do Daniel Mark Woodgate Also Known As Woody is The Drummer From Madness

  • Forgot to mention the concert footage... Thanks for taking the time and effort to post their live performances. Great job!

  • Thanks for posting these videos! Music was getting so bad by about 1980 that I avoided radios at all costs because I was worried that all the really horrible music was giving me brain damage (or making me insane) so I never heard about these guys until a couple days ago. I like their songs and their videos are fun to watch. They deserved much more fame and fortune than the seem to have gotten. Thanks again!
