@tonyd927 I can't really speak for the 900, but s DSL would definitely work awesome for that kind of music. The dirt channel is killer for power chords
Yea seems an amazing amp to me, fun thing about it is that it's suited for a lot of genres, a bit diffrent from some other marshall amps. This has a good clean, good classic crunch, but also a lot of gain! I love the tone and it's considered that the dsl series are quite good sounding on low volume
@trakir I have this same amp and used to use a Boss GT-6 through it with all the preamps disabled. Just use the effects loop and run the delays, chorus, slicer, modulations and all that flashy stuff. But I really wouldn't add any of the Boss distortions to the ALREADY great tone of the JCM2000
@themrdomw it's better to have a full stack..... but I dont' wanna carry all that crap around. Anyways..... if you're mic'd in the P.A. all you really need is a 1x12 combo amp. But I sure love playing through that 1/2 stack! : )
gibson/epi, they dont sound the same at all but that doesnt mean that epi sounds bad.... just different, imo they seem 90% as nice as the gibsons im hearing, if they have the same setup, electronics and pups, the only difference imo is probably gonna be sustain on the higher notes...
Epiphones are fucking awful guitars! They are average for the money at best, Gibsons are so much better! Even the newer Les Pauls are better than Epiphones, don't even get me started on the older Les Pauls!
You're simply mad if you think Epiphones are as good as gibson...
Haha My Chemical Romance use Epiphone guitars, fucking good one... Im not even going to dignify that with a list of better guitarists that use Gibson guitars because i'd exceed my remaining character count (Y)
I can almost guarantee that if i played thru both a gibson & an epiphone both with the same pickups you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. and as for PRS guitars, utter balls
thats ridiculous... I've owned an epiphone les paul and played several gibson les pauls, i now own a PRS singlecut. The PRS i have is so so so much better than the epiphone i had, and if you can't tell the difference between a gibson and epiphone just from feel then you are shit at guitar haha
I've got an old squier that plays better than a PRS, and as for feel yeah gibsons obviously are more sturdy & well built than epiphones. Re-read my comment, i was talking about sound douchebag. Another wankjob guitarist who goes by the name on the headstock not what the guitar actually sounds like.
Lol if that's the case then your response to my comment was pretty pointless seeing as i was talking about the quality of the guitar... theres a lot more to a guitar that just what it sounds like? Obviously the fact that gibsons are "more sturdy and well built" means that what i said was valid? also if you knew anything whatsoever you would understand that sturdy well build guitars have better coupling and better sustain and generally a better sound. so no, they wouldn't sound the same.
Well judging from first hand experience, they do mate. And as for your point being valid, it isn't. Is paying £1000 more for a gibson really justified for better build quality when you could spend £200 on new pickups/electronics for a epiphone and have it sounding just as good. I'll be as much as a cunt as i want to fucktards like you who pretend to knew everything. Have fun playing your shitty PRS :)
if they sound the same to you then you have a poor ear for guitar quality, its as simple as that, im not gonna respond to any more comments cause its a waste of my time. my prs cost me the same as my epiphone and is 3 times as good so unlucky mate
I'm not trying to defend epiphone, i don't even own one. I'm pointing out the fact that people like you seem to think that Gibson is the bestest guitars in the world, when in fact you can get a guitar just as good for nearly half the price. Whether it's modding an epiphone or getting a japanese equivalent, it's all about the sound. and like i said very very few people can hear any differences when you mod them. Gibson quality nowadays has gone way downhill as well.
alright fair enough, but thing is gibsons are a lot better than epiphones. I've played them, heard them, felt them and they are better guitars than epiphones simple as. Epiphones aren't bad for the money really but to compare them to gibsons is a bit ignorant IMO
It really isn't. I've played many gibsons & yeah i do think they are some of the best guitars i've played, but how can you justify spending THAT much cash for one. It's insane, thats why i stick to fender. If i had a gibson LP i'd be afraid to do anything with it cause of the price, whereas i'm happy enough to go crazy on my strats. but yeah i do agree, awesome guitars nonetheless
Yeah sure i agree you have to be alot more careful with expensive guitars, and i do love fenders as well. But gibsons are better than epiphones is all i was saying, sure they are more expensive, but you get what you pay for. my prs plays really nicely for the price, its a 25" length which its perfect for lead work as well as chords and i fitted coil taps on the pickups so it can do some nice clean sounds so i'm happy with it, id never drill into a gibson mind.,,
@AdamskiFTW just face it... Gibson's are better guitars... Epiphone are nice too, for starters and after some years. But you dont see many "famous" or great players playing a Epiphone
I didn't say they were better than gibson mate, my point was that they're stupidly overpriced & you can get a good guitar for over half the price of one. most people buy them as investments, which i could never do cause all of my guitars are pretty worn & battered. and i've seen plenty of people use epiphones live, famous or not
so yeah, next time read my comment and actually think before posting a stupid reply (Y) and don't be such a cunt when talking to people you dont even know.
I love how everybody shits on Epiphone. Epiphones arent bad at all dude. My machine heads were 10 years old before i had to do anything about them, and the only problem was that the G was going bad. got sperzels and it doesnt go out of tune, ever
well ya i do like the sounds. Mayeb upgrade the humbuckers though to gibson 57's. I guess your right tho. But if mine did go out of tune id just get Grover's. i got sperzel locking tuners...theyre awesome. I got some seymour duncans and some dimarzio 500k knobs too so mine sounds like a badass, but there is a big difference in the wood.....Gibson air-dries their wood for a loooong time, while epiphone kiln dries their wood. I still love my Epi, but i will give Gibson credit for that
out of tune my ass, my epi goest out of tune after bending like crazy for 4 hours and only slightly, it keeps more in tune than my american stratocaster.
I know the mc412 and 1960 cabs gave different size speakers in them, but dothe they actually the same size cabinents? could you have a mc412 and 1960 full stack?
1960av cabs have celestion vintage 30 speakers, while 1960a cabs have celestion g12t-75 speakers. 1960av cabs have 280w and are suited more for vintage and classic rock, while 1960a cabs have 300w and are suited for heavier styles. I personally like the 1960av cabs, but thats just my taste.
when i turn on my zakk wylde overdrive pedal..my (Samick 15watt) amp starts to buzz..why is that..? and how do i stop it? is it because of the amp, or because i don't have my elektricity on the earthing system..? anybody..?
an overdrive pedal is just going 2 do that, it adds so much gain u will never keep ur amp from buzzing. just kick the pedal off when ur not playin and u will be fine
if its an open back, like my vypyr (piece of shit, i regret getting it) make it buzz, and put your hand behind the speaker, if you feel wind, than its your speaker responding to the loudness, and you need to tighten all of the screws on your amp, it could be shaky parts
Petrucci used a Roland Jazz 120 combo for the recording of Images and Words (for cleans) and its a solid state amp. But other than that he's used Mesa Boogie amps, and a Marshall amp for his lead or rhythm tone for Scenes from a Memory Pt.1.
Kirk uses Mesa's still, I believe. He IS sponsored by Randall, but he dosent use them live I dont think...he even said something knocking Randall in one of his interviews, like "I cant believe I would ever be sponsoring Randall amps".
On solid states, they can sound good, but the same goes for tube amps, they all need a good rig set up (i.e. effects/processor, great tubes or solid state box, pedals for OD/Dist, etc.) Lets see, Chuck Schuldiner used SS, Thomas Youngblood from Kamelot, Dave Mustaine has used one once, James Hetfield uses a Roland JC-120 for his cleans, Petrucci used one too I believe, Lacuna Coil, Meshuggah, Allan Holdsworth, etc. The list goes on. They use them for variation and adding to their tone.
No, he's used boogie's since the very start of dream theater but used a randall in majesty. He started with a triaxis for the first DT stuff and then moved on to a IIC+, then picked up a road king, and finally the pair of mark IV's and the lonestar. Used a mark V on a chunk of the new album though.
I know fuckin idiots.. For all your information dimebag used tube power amps on stage. Those randall cabs are just for show due to endorsments. It's kind of like chad smith uses porkpie drumsets wraped in pearl for the same reason
Where's this info at? I was under the impression that Dime used solid state Randalls until he started endorsing Kranks. Randall didn't start making tube amps until Dime left (or died, whichever came first). Not to start an argument; just curious.
I agree people use dimebag alot when it comes to distortion but SS really does have its advantages. Like with clean sounds. Ask B.B. King and plenty other bluIes/ jazz musicians. Im a tube fanatic, but to be honest i have heard several SS amps really kick ass with distortion. A bad example is the marshall mofset. It does not totally get that tube sound but for $200 holds its own. and alot tube/SS Frankenstein type amps are cool like vox valvetronix. Though they are very unreliable.
hey idiots who are goin on about how solidstates and hybrids are so crap lol well up urs for fucksake u sound likekids dimebag darrel strictly used randall hybrid amps wats wrong with hybrid and solidstate u can get some real dogs but u can also get sum beutys same with valve amps depends on wat u like and wat sounds best to u
Can you elaborate on the useage of the word "shit" in describing Dime's tone? Its one thing not to like his tone but completly different to call it shit.
hey check out my sound clips and comment if you would...
you really dont need to be playing stadium rock to get the right sound out of a marshall, you just need to be able to turn the dials.... it really is that simple.
yer man i got a marshall i love her lol your good mate love your skills sweet G-tar I want a Epiphone Les Paul 100 (ebony)what do you think about that? your rad cheers
theyre not called valvestate its called solid state and the difference is that tube amps sound better because the sound isnt produced by curciuts(im not sure i spelled that right).
but the thing is that tube amps cost more and they break alot easier. solid state amps are more relyable. and they cost less but they dont sound as good as the tube amps. i wouldnt recommend a tube for a beginner.
im not a beginner xDDD im actually pretty good right now. but i thought valve states were the same thing as tube amps, and that solid state amps were the ones with circuits. is the JCM 2000 DSL a tube amp?
Valvestate is a hybrid of tube and a solid state amp. this means having a tube preamp, and solid state power section that Marshall makes.
They do sound better than full solid state amps, but the full feel isn't quite the same. Most people are pretty tone def and can't tell the difference unless played side by side though.
Yes. Tube amps generally are warmer and more natural sounding. Hybrids usually have 1 tube...which doesn't do much and still retains many of the aspects a of solid state amp.
so for example if you are playing on a JCM 2000 on the clean channel, is it using all the tubes??? and for the overdriven channel is it using all the tubes?? or for the clean channel its only using 1 tube?? do you get my question?
Yeah, it wont let me put up the link but put it in google. When u get the website on the left u will find the forums. Scroll down till u see amps and ask your question in there. Sign up of course ;). Thats how i know of dcooper from there ha
That's a pretty ignorant statement. Definitely IS. There is no definition of "real" amp sound. There's real tube sound, but really it's whatever sounds best to you, the player. I prefer tube amps, but I know a lot of metalheads who use strictly solid state amps.
I agree I like tube sound better. Some idiots like solid stateWhich I don't understand. although you definaetly have to find the right tube amp or it will drive you nuts. I found out the hard way I DONT LIKE MARSHALL. Now I'm screwed. It's all personal preference.
that's definately not true. Solid State amps do sound pretty good, depending on what amp you buy. Almost all jazz players exclusively use solid state amps. It just depends on what you're after. I personally like tube amps.
I'm new to using cabinets. I have a mesa boogie mark IV and the cab you are using. I wanna use both sides of the cab in stereo, can I just select stereo and use both slots with one head? I wanna use one cab with one head in stereo.
I'm pretty sure the Mark IV is not a stereo amp. So I don't think that will do you any good. You need to select MONO and match the OHM setting on your cab with the OHM setting on your Mark IV.
Thanks so much! I actually have never played an Epi Les Paul Ultra. But I'd like to get one. I don't have any interest in the Ultra IIs though. But those also seem very cool.
yo dcooper I'm purchasing my first tube amp soon and im undecided on the dsl or tsl i just wanted to know if you could make a video showing how high the gain can go on the dslwith a fair amount of volume thanks man
I do have a couple of other videos of this DSL 100 with higher gain. I hope that might help. Some people say the TSL sounds thinner and fizzier than the DSL.. but I've played both and they sound the same to me. The only problem with the TSL is there's a lot of extra circuitry that could go wrong. And I've heard they're a bitch to work on.
great playing! me so jelly of ur amp btw...

1960av cabs have celestion vintage 30 speakers, while 1960a cabs have celestion g12t-75 speakers. 1960av cabs have 280w and are suited more for vintage and classic rock, while 1960a cabs have 300w and are suited for heavier styles. I personally like the 1960av cabs, but thats just my taste.

when i turn on my zakk wylde overdrive pedal..my (Samick 15watt) amp starts to buzz..why is that..? and how do i stop it? is it because of the amp, or because i don't have my elektricity on the earthing system..? anybody..?
jeudhas 2 years ago
an overdrive pedal is just going 2 do that, it adds so much gain u will never keep ur amp from buzzing. just kick the pedal off when ur not playin and u will be fine
innerkiwi 2 years ago
or buy a boss nosie supressor that gets rid of it
theboywhocantollie 2 years ago
if its an open back, like my vypyr (piece of shit, i regret getting it) make it buzz, and put your hand behind the speaker, if you feel wind, than its your speaker responding to the loudness, and you need to tighten all of the screws on your amp, it could be shaky parts

Petrucci used a Roland Jazz 120 combo for the recording of Images and Words (for cleans) and its a solid state amp. But other than that he's used Mesa Boogie amps, and a Marshall amp for his lead or rhythm tone for Scenes from a Memory Pt.1.
Gonboo 2 years ago
Hammett still uses it.

Hammett Uses a randall
rhysdigby 2 years ago
He uses the Roland Jazz Chorus for clean records !
Kreeg0 2 years ago
Doesn't matter anyway. The tones are amazing from both amps. xD
rhysdigby 2 years ago
we have a jazz chorus at work- kosmic sound. the clean tone is absolutley AMAZING!!!!

Kirk uses Mesa's still, I believe. He IS sponsored by Randall, but he dosent use them live I dont think...he even said something knocking Randall in one of his interviews, like "I cant believe I would ever be sponsoring Randall amps".
dustroyer13 2 years ago
I saw them live in December and both he and Hetfield used the Randall Kirk Hammet signature amps.

ruffles272 2 years ago
What would the volume be able to fill on this amp?
124shane124 2 years ago
Basically it all comes down to tastes, some use only tube amps, others like SS, but most great musicians use both, or have used both at one time.
Gonboo 2 years ago 4
On solid states, they can sound good, but the same goes for tube amps, they all need a good rig set up (i.e. effects/processor, great tubes or solid state box, pedals for OD/Dist, etc.) Lets see, Chuck Schuldiner used SS, Thomas Youngblood from Kamelot, Dave Mustaine has used one once, James Hetfield uses a Roland JC-120 for his cleans, Petrucci used one too I believe, Lacuna Coil, Meshuggah, Allan Holdsworth, etc. The list goes on. They use them for variation and adding to their tone.
Gonboo 2 years ago
What did petrucci use... I'm damn sure he used Boogie's for his whole career.
0ftheWALLS 2 years ago 2
I'm not sure hes used them his entire career. Those are awsome amps though.
grvggb 2 years ago
No, he's used boogie's since the very start of dream theater but used a randall in majesty. He started with a triaxis for the first DT stuff and then moved on to a IIC+, then picked up a road king, and finally the pair of mark IV's and the lonestar. Used a mark V on a chunk of the new album though.

solid state amps are beautiful, esp if u cant crank a tube amp or just need something to plug into (practice) deff not gigging
sr1129 3 years ago
i love how when people stand up for solidstates, the only name they can throw out there is dimebag.
richewhite 3 years ago 5
I know fuckin idiots.. For all your information dimebag used tube power amps on stage. Those randall cabs are just for show due to endorsments. It's kind of like chad smith uses porkpie drumsets wraped in pearl for the same reason
fixxxer602 3 years ago
Where's this info at? I was under the impression that Dime used solid state Randalls until he started endorsing Kranks. Randall didn't start making tube amps until Dime left (or died, whichever came first). Not to start an argument; just curious.
plinkytx 3 years ago
there are plenty of good solid state amps. it depends on what you want out of your tone. dimebag is/was not the only solid state user obviously.
liamwri 2 years ago 2
I agree people use dimebag alot when it comes to distortion but SS really does have its advantages. Like with clean sounds. Ask B.B. King and plenty other bluIes/ jazz musicians. Im a tube fanatic, but to be honest i have heard several SS amps really kick ass with distortion. A bad example is the marshall mofset. It does not totally get that tube sound but for $200 holds its own. and alot tube/SS Frankenstein type amps are cool like vox valvetronix. Though they are very unreliable.

hey idiots who are goin on about how solidstates and hybrids are so crap lol well up urs for fucksake u sound likekids dimebag darrel strictly used randall hybrid amps wats wrong with hybrid and solidstate u can get some real dogs but u can also get sum beutys same with valve amps depends on wat u like and wat sounds best to u
fenixband54 3 years ago
I'm not bashing solid state amps, but Dimebag's tone was shit so it doesn't matter.
Al112987 3 years ago 2
Can you elaborate on the useage of the word "shit" in describing Dime's tone? Its one thing not to like his tone but completly different to call it shit.

hey check out my sound clips and comment if you would...
you really dont need to be playing stadium rock to get the right sound out of a marshall, you just need to be able to turn the dials.... it really is that simple.

whats the difference between tube amps and valvestate amps?
pilotoatomico 3 years ago
theyre not called valvestate its called solid state and the difference is that tube amps sound better because the sound isnt produced by curciuts(im not sure i spelled that right).
but the thing is that tube amps cost more and they break alot easier. solid state amps are more relyable. and they cost less but they dont sound as good as the tube amps. i wouldnt recommend a tube for a beginner.
powertothechord 3 years ago
im not a beginner xDDD im actually pretty good right now. but i thought valve states were the same thing as tube amps, and that solid state amps were the ones with circuits. is the JCM 2000 DSL a tube amp?
pilotoatomico 3 years ago
Valvestate is a hybrid of tube and a solid state amp. this means having a tube preamp, and solid state power section that Marshall makes.
They do sound better than full solid state amps, but the full feel isn't quite the same. Most people are pretty tone def and can't tell the difference unless played side by side though.
sircraigery 3 years ago
yea man, my bassist has a hybrid amp, and its incredibly awesome. its 25 years old and it stills sounds great!
pilotoatomico 3 years ago
but is a full tube amp like a JCM 2000 better than a hybrid amp?
pilotoatomico 3 years ago
Yes. Tube amps generally are warmer and more natural sounding. Hybrids usually have 1 tube...which doesn't do much and still retains many of the aspects a of solid state amp.
mgshred 3 years ago
so for example if you are playing on a JCM 2000 on the clean channel, is it using all the tubes??? and for the overdriven channel is it using all the tubes?? or for the clean channel its only using 1 tube?? do you get my question?
pilotoatomico 3 years ago
I get your question, but im not 100% sure on how many it uses per channel. Forum guys on Harmony Central would know probably.
mgshred 3 years ago
Harmony Central?? is that a webpage?
pilotoatomico 3 years ago
Yeah, it wont let me put up the link but put it in google. When u get the website on the left u will find the forums. Scroll down till u see amps and ask your question in there. Sign up of course ;). Thats how i know of dcooper from there ha
mgshred 3 years ago
do you have the marshall MG?? cause of your name xD
pilotoatomico 3 years ago
No sir. I have a Peavey Valveking/Roland JC-120H and couple of pratice/traveling SS amps.
mgshred 3 years ago
It's all preference. What type of music do you play?
TCAWhat 3 years ago
i play Iron Maiden all day
pilotoatomico 3 years ago
definetly isnt. tube amps sounds real, solid states/hybrids sound like play toys.
terminalninja 3 years ago
That's a pretty ignorant statement. Definitely IS. There is no definition of "real" amp sound. There's real tube sound, but really it's whatever sounds best to you, the player. I prefer tube amps, but I know a lot of metalheads who use strictly solid state amps.
TCAWhat 3 years ago 2
rofl. dont get involved with tone as crap as yours.
terminalninja 3 years ago
I agree I like tube sound better. Some idiots like solid stateWhich I don't understand. although you definaetly have to find the right tube amp or it will drive you nuts. I found out the hard way I DONT LIKE MARSHALL. Now I'm screwed. It's all personal preference.
shguitar14 3 years ago
thx. ye well if u dont like the typical stadium rock and roll sound then yeah ofcourse a marshall wouldnt be ur type of thing.
terminalninja 3 years ago
Yeah I guess many pro guitarists using the Roland JC-120 and similar amps are pretty tone deaf and ignorant.
turydragon 3 years ago 2
that's definately not true. Solid State amps do sound pretty good, depending on what amp you buy. Almost all jazz players exclusively use solid state amps. It just depends on what you're after. I personally like tube amps.
amarr1 3 years ago 3
well for cleans solid states can be an exception somtimes.
terminalninja 3 years ago
I'm new to using cabinets. I have a mesa boogie mark IV and the cab you are using. I wanna use both sides of the cab in stereo, can I just select stereo and use both slots with one head? I wanna use one cab with one head in stereo.
229Mafia 3 years ago
With itself.
229Mafia 3 years ago
I'm pretty sure the Mark IV is not a stereo amp. So I don't think that will do you any good. You need to select MONO and match the OHM setting on your cab with the OHM setting on your Mark IV.

yo dcooper I'm purchasing my first tube amp soon and im undecided on the dsl or tsl i just wanted to know if you could make a video showing how high the gain can go on the dslwith a fair amount of volume thanks man
SoloBen247 3 years ago
I do have a couple of other videos of this DSL 100 with higher gain. I hope that might help. Some people say the TSL sounds thinner and fizzier than the DSL.. but I've played both and they sound the same to me. The only problem with the TSL is there's a lot of extra circuitry that could go wrong. And I've heard they're a bitch to work on.
dcooper830 3 years ago
alright thanks which video has the dsl with higher gain?
SoloBen247 3 years ago
It's my video simply entitled "Marshall DSL 100"
