  • hi, will this mixer allow me to record straight from daw? does it has digital outs? say if i want to connect my keyboard and synths and record from daw which one of your allen and heath mixer would fit that need looking for 8-12 channels.

  • Hi, I've just purchased a an EFX8 mixer. Not even after reading the manual, I could not make the 2 track in input to give me sound in the headphones. The 2 buttons (to track and to mix) seem to have no effect. Is it possible to have a malfunction or what do I have to do?

  • Hi; sounds like you have a PFL or AFL active somewhere... Is the master PFL/AFL light on? What is showing on the meters? What do you hear in the headphones?

  • Hi soundcraft. would this be a good mixer for a band or live performace's //Small venue// if so please reply i need to know please

  • The audio and build quality will be great but that's not really what the question is about... Our question comes back to you as does it have enough channels, buses and any other critical features that you need.

Richard Ayres - Product Manager Soundcraft & Studer

  • But will it mix?

  • Hi, simple question. I will be using the 8 channel version of this mixer for gigs. We will be using backing tracks from my macbook, electric drums from the drummer and my vocals. Our drummer needs to monitor my vocals along with his drums separate from the backing track and main mix. How would I send him just the drums and vocals from the desk to his active monitor?

    Thanks

    Ed

  • You'd make a mix on the AUX bus that includes the audio parts you require, else if the drummer has his own mixer you can 'y' split your mic to his mixer and he can add more or less of your vocal as needed.

  • Hi Soundcraft, do you manifacture a stereo eq unit that would compliment the mfx8 for fine tuning of frequencies for different venue applications?

I think a Soundcraft eq would look cool in my flight case with the Soundcraft mfx8.

    Many thanks.

    Regards

    Nick.

  • Hi Nick, no is the straight answer here.. sounds to me like what you need is a system processor that has independent control for room EQ and system(speaker) EQ - these are similar but very different processes that should not be confused. A product like the DBX Drive Rack is something you should look at:

Richard Ayres - Product Manager Soundcraft & Studer

  • @SoundcraftUK Ok ,thanks very much Richard for your quick reply,I see the DBX Drive Rack systems also incorperate limiting which would be very handy to have. instead of using seperate limiters and eq's etc.

  • I want to know if I connect another pair of speakers in the monitor or sub output, I can still have or control the effects (on the monitor and sub) from the Lexicon without losing them in the main output?

    Thanks.

  • Hi;

Not sure I understand your question/requirement...

The FX processor can not route to the stereo sub group so this output will always be 'dry' (no FX). The monitor outputs are at the end of the signal chain so will include whatever FX is mixed to the signal you're monitoring.

Please contact me directly at richard.ayres@harman.com if you would like to discuss further.

  • I like this one tho! :)

  • Any One Know how these compare to Beriingger?

  • Comment removed

  • In what respect? Products have many attributes you must consider, audio quality, reliability, image, resale value, brand identity, size, features etc; the list goes on. If quality is the #1 priority borrow one and have a GOOD listen from a variety of sources and mix complexities. As a business consider "Which brand is best for the image & development of my business?" as for features, don't just count what other have, consider what you need.

  • Hello... One silly question..:)

I have in my hands Soundcraft EPM6... is there a build in amplifier.... can I connect passive monitors straight to EPM6 and sing and play guitar...?

  • Hi... The EPM6 does not include an integrated power amplifier and you will require a separate amplifier or powered monitor speakers.

  • Hi, i just bought an mfx20, my first console, two weeks ago.. im just wana ask if i could assign different lexicon effects in every channel?.. like in channel 1-5, i prefer "L Hall" for the vocals and some delays to channel 6 for guitar?.. thanks in advance..

  • Hello;

If you need a second effect at the same time you will need a second FX processor. Connect this to AUX2 out, set the aux to be POST fade and return it into an unused channel.

No way was this was not a countfeite

  • Nice chinese mixer, also known as a Nearstar FX in china, but cheaper.

  • Hi, I just bought the mfx8 and i'd like to know if it's possible to have a stereo signal to the aux sends, so I can hear my backingtape in stereo on my in-ear system. So far I can only hear mono. If it's not possible on this desk, which model has stereo aux sends? btw, the mixer sounds fantastic! regards, Vluupik

  • Not really, if you were to use both aux buses (remembering a stereo aux is little more than that) and have your backing tape connected to two mono channels you could achieve stereo by sending the odd number input to aux 1 and the even number input to aux 2. You have to move to a significantly larger, more complex and more expensive mixer like a Soundcraft MH to reach the point where you have full stereo sends to stereo buses

  • hi, i'm(not professional) currently using one mixing desk(behringer) that it has 3 L&R main outs. so i can connect directly to more active pa speakers or amps. now i'm looking for upgrade my mixer and i'm really liked the mfx20.there is any way to get connect mfx20 to two or more amps/ active speakers?

    thanks

  • Hi,

The neatest, most flexible, convenient and technically superior option is offered by quality amplifiers such as Crown XLS amplifiers and JBL EON speakers and is called 'Loop Through'.

With the loop system the speaker or amplifier input signal is buffered and re-presented at an additional output socket on the device allowing the next amplifier or speaker to be connected, this can be repeated as many times as needed.

  • can i send stereo tape input signal to monitor? if yes, how?

  • Hi; If your console is an MFX the button is just above the masters and labeled 2 TRACK, if it's an MFXi the button is close to the 2TRK IN sockets and is labeled 2TRK to MON; press this to bring the tape return back to the monitors.

  • Can an Mbox 2 be connecetd to a mixing desk? I was wondering if there is a way of expanding the mbox simultenous recording ability by intergrating a mixing desk with several signal inputs. The LE can record upto 32 tracks its kinda weird having to be able to record only two at a time via the XLR's or DI's...am not very techy so be precise in ur suggestions please....thanks

  • Hi Gavin;

A mixer would certainly be a help in that respect, a product like the MFXi would allow you to mic-up, EQ & mix multiple sources into stereo pairs. The MFXi has really good mic pre amps s and EQ that will be a great complement to your Mbox

  • Your vids are great. I still find using all the equipment confusing. That says more about me though. I have an mbox with pro tools and love recording different instruments. But I can only record one instrument in stereo at a time because the mbox only has two line ins. Can I buy a mixer with loads of line ins and connect that to the mbox and recorrd on pro tools that way? By doing this I wouldnt have to keep swapping leads about.

  • I have heard a demo of this mixer at the London PA Centre.

Really clean lovely warm mix pre's and great eq's, really musical.

I love the Lexicon effects they are like icing on the cake.

Well done Soundcraft for giving a demo of these effects on your website. I really love the guitar demo on the Large hall reverb setting. It has a lovely pro open sound.

I am going to buy one of these..

  • Great consoles. Having owned a Series 6000 and S.S Studio desks the constructions of SC equipment is excellent with a lovely sound to boot.

  • whats the difference between a mixer and a multitrack recorrder? i have a multitrack recorder and i was wondering if i could use a mixer with my recorder. and what would be the purpose of it

  • The simple answer is that the mixer provides the input amplifiers and control for all of your sound sources (mics instruments etc) and allows you to change the tone, add FX, balance levels, create headphone mixes, monitor signals and mix signals together. A multi-track is a recording device that allows the recording and playback of multiple independent signals such as vocals, keyboards, bass etc for mixing at a later date.

  • Would you recommend a Xenyx 12 Input 2 Bus Mixer for basic recording ?

  • This is not a question we can answer; your choice of equipment should be made on the criteria important to you and is a factor of many things including performance, reliability, image, brand reputation, quality, resale value, service & support etc.

We believe Soundcraft products offer the best balance of all these items at a cost that whilst not the cheapest is excellent value for money considering all factors.

  • i have FL Studio 9. and i now want to start making my own music and the mic i would like to get is a MXL 990 its cheap and from what i have heard it works well. but now im wondering if i need a mixer and i dont know what would be good about one what it would really do to help. could someone please tell me. Does that mean i can mess with my voice and what else????????

  • I think a mixer would be a great asset at mixing and EQing with real faders is much easier and more creative than doing it on screen. In addition to the mixing function the mixer of course provides your mic amp which is an essential component. The size and features you require will vary but a product like the Soundcraft EFX offers good mixing capabilities, excellent EQ & Mic amps plus studio quality FX.

  • I just saw the EPM8, with the 8 inputs, for around 238 euro's. But is this a good mixer for recording drums? I don't have a lot of experience using mixers and microphones. But can you tell me how to record my drums through the mixer into my computer?

I hope you can help me out, an awnser would be appreciated.

    ~Roy

  • Hi Roy;

I assume you're talking about live drums not electronic ones? The scope of the answer is too wide for this forum, but if you wish to discuss 1:1 please call me at the office on +44 (0)1707 668059 and we can talk at length on the subjct.

  • mfx, mfxi, efx, Please tell me whats the difference, and why cant i find this mixer in any of the well established music shops i visit. Am i right in thinking the " i " in mfxi stands for interface. Is the efx the fore runner of the mfx. the mixer sounds ideal for small pub/club gigs as well as studio. Are the lexicon digital effects to the same standard on both mixers mfx/efx. thanks,

  • PART 1... MFXi is an updated version built with individual (the 'i' part) channel strips rather than a large PCB; this method offers improved feel, build quality & service levels; the spec and feature set are otherwise essentially the same.

    TBC...

  • PART 2... EFX is a different model with fewer features such as no sub groups, only 2 aux sends and a more cost effective but less cosmetically appealing box without curved edges or cosmetic trim but the Lexicon is exactly the same.

  • PART 3... As for why you can not find it, please advise where you are based and which stores you have been in contact with and I can help.

  • Hi im thinking about buying the mfx8 or maybe the mfx12, for small pub gigs. What speakers would you recomend i have a pair of srm350 Makie that i use as monitors for larger venues. the speakers are active. would they be compatible.

  • Hi; The 350 has been replaced with the V2 but according to the documentation all the key changes appear to be with the amplifier and the specs for the input stages are unchanged, so with a maximm input of ~+22dBu and nominal sensitivity of +4dBu you should plug & play just fine!

    Richard Ayres

Product Manager - Soundcraft & Studer

  • @krees863

As the MFX is just a line level output, you can feed active loudspeakers directly, or use an external power amplifier with passive loudspeakers. The new JBL EON 510 or 515 would be a perfect active match with the MFX, but the size and power of the loudspeakers depends on what size rooms you will be playing in. The SRM350 have line inputs, so should be compatibel with the MFX mixer.

  • Hi, is this mixer fine for a home studio? I´m using some synths and drum machines.

    Thank you,

    J.

  • There will be no problems using this in your environment, and with separate outputs and level controls for the monitors and headphones it will make you monitor set-up easy.

  • Many thanks.

  • hello:-D

how much does that mixer cost???

i cnt find it on ebay?!

  • Ebay I can't comment on, but if you do a Google shopping / product search for

"soundcraft mfxi" you'll find them... Our web site shows the 'i' versiosn of the product which are the best - not much change to the electronic design but they are all individual PCB modules inside (like a big pro desk), not just one big flat PCB card.

  • I've just bought a new mfx 8, the problem

i have is when i raise the main effects output to 0db as it states in the user manual i get an awfal loud hissing noise, thats without moving the fx nobs on an of the channels. The mic pre's do sound good though.

  • This does sound 'wrong'; FX by their nature add noise through the regenerative nature of most algorithms meaning noise floor is often added back to itself, but with a mix going the noise is insignificant against the typical noise of an open mic in a room with ~30db gain picking up general background noise.

If you think the problem is worse than this contact your dealer or distributor to arrange for it to be checked / swapped.

  • John and Richard, you guys are great!

Very informative video, like that you appear to be quite down to earth kinda people.. :)

    Oh, excellent product too!

  • Thanks - we try our best!

  • can you use that as an audio interface

  • Hi!

    I already have Cubase,

    I need a digital mixer?

    and why?

    Thank you.

  • Your choice of mixer is optional with a digital system. Your personal choice will dictate what your system interface and mixing method will be... At one extreme a single mic pre with digital out may be all you want to get the signal into your system and all tracks are laid & mixed digitaly. Alternately you may opt for simply using the computer as a recorder and all EQ, mixing, interfacing & processing is done in the mixer... Your choice!

  • Sorry for the delay - been on vacations!

You're right its on all mics, but not a problem all professional (balanced) dynamic mics work fine with or without phantom and are not damaged by it... To explain, as the 48v is on pins 2&3 and the microphone signals are on pin 2&3 (with no reference to GND) there is no voltage across the microphone as all internal components are just 'lifted' to 48v

  • I see that it has a global phantom power button. I'm actually new to these kinds of mixers and I just wanna ask that if by saying "global phantom power" ... does that mean it gives phantom power to every mic input on each and every track? What if I need to use a dynamic mic and a condenser mic both at the same time? Thanks.

  • Sorry for the late reply - been on vacation.

You're right the 48v is applied to all mics but there is no problem with professional balanced microphones as they simply wont 'see' the phantom voltage... Cheap or unbalanced mics are a different question but I'd simply avoid these.

  • I really like the look and feel of the Soundraft MHX as it also has the lexicon effects but I like the direct outputs of the M8 or M12 as that will help me to do live multitrack recordings simultaneously. I'm not really after anything bigger than a 12 track mixer. Instead of using the inserts on the MHX. Can you suggest another way I can create a direct output while keeping the live mix as to be honest I would prefer the MHX series

  • Sorry for the late reply - been on vacation.

There is a quick & easy way to do this; use a 'break out cable in the insert points - you can use this either just to 'listen' to the insert by shorting tip & ring and taking your signal from the linked point or make a 'full blown' insert cable and patch your recorder in there. The user guide has information on all these cable or plug types

  • Hi Soundcraft! Just a question.

A friend of mine has bought a MFX12. Good, but he has a problem: the effect makes a noise when he raises the return fader. I know that it is a common problem on Soundcrafr EFX and MFX.

Has the new Soundcraft MFXi that noise, like the old MFX, or do you find a solution to delete the noise from effect processor?

I'm very interested to buy a MFXi, the new one, from Germany. But I want to be sure to have a mixer without noise into the effect...

    Thanks!

  • Your friend may have a faulty MFX if the noise is excessive and should contact his distributor. On this subject we found that many users were raising the FX fader to maximum and not sending much signal to it (bad practice). On the MFXi we've addressed this by taking the gain off the FX return 0db is now the maximum) and the gain was added to the sends taking ~10db off the noise for users operating against best practice. Hope this helps.

    Soundcraft Product Management

  • Thanks so much! You're very kind!

By the way, is the effects processor in MFXi the same of the one inside the MFX?

I'd like to hear the new MFXi, but it is not so spread in Italian shops, and probably I will buy it in from Germany.

So you said that the noise from effects, similar to a "blow", is reduced, but not disappeared, is it right?

    Thanks again!

  • The FX processor & programs are the same between the two models, just a change to the system gain as described to 'prevent misuse'

    Regards

    Soundcraft Product Management

  • Thanks so much!

Are there other differences between the MFX and the MFXi? Why should I choose the MFXi instead of the MFX?

  • Just bought the 8 channel version of this ... have always loved Soundcraft ... great sound, versatile, and well laid out.

I used to have a Spirit powered 8 channel ... no longer in production. It was the best sounding mixer I ever had ... lots of great comments from audiences ...

Having the built in Lexicon can't be underestimated ....

    Thanks Soundcraft!!!

  • A tough question... Trying to be impartial I have to say we've almost never been criticized about the quality & sound of our FX, Mix Pre's & EQ so would say they must be some of the best.

  • After looking for a long time for an analog mixer, i find this product and it seems the right one for my needs. I never heard the lexicon effects, but i heard they are really good. Can you tell me if they sound in the same league as the classic racks ? The Number 1 Priority is the sound of the mixer and the eq´s hope this is therefore a good purchase for me. Do you really can say this sounds better as a Allen Heath or a Mackie ? Sorry for my bad english

  • Equal to Allen Heath better than Mackie without question

  • whats better a mfx or efx

  • In terms of audio quality etc, they are the same... The MFX is better in respect of more features and nicer mechanical design (curved surfaces, end profile trims etc).

Feature wise, the key extras of the MFX (vs. EFX) has more inputs, sub groups, more aux sends

    Hope this helps...

    Regards

    Soundcraft

  • whats better the MFX or the EFX

  • but im sorry i dont like the effects.

  • Sorry about that... What do you not like about them ?

  • i bought one yesterday and it sounds really great at the very first moment

  • can i know if this is better than any same mackie mixer ?

  • In what respect? Products have many attributes you must consider, audio quality, reliability, image, resale value, brand identity, physical size, and features to name just some. If Audio Quality is your #1 priority then borrow one and have a GOOD listen from a variety of sources and complexity of mix. On a business level, perhaps "Which brand is best for the image & development of my business?" as for features, don't just count what they have, consider what you need.

  • GReat - glad you like it...Will keep in mind showing the 'internals' for future videos.

  • Thks Guys. Great info for product decision making. How about showing us the robust SMT technology and internal design? I have a Yamaha (cheap one side through hole design) and was going to purchase the competition (PV14) until I saw your unit at Musicians Friend. Can't wait until 1/20 to order!

  • Sorry we never made a video on the EPM8, however the two consoles are similar in almost every respect (functionally) except there are 2 AUX sends rather than 3 on an EPM and EPM has no sub groups. The complete user guide is available on the web for download if youfancy a good read!

    Regards Soundcraft

  • Thank you so much! I've downloaded the manual and now I know all I wanted to know :) I'll buy it soon!

  • I REALLY REALLY love Soundcraft. I never really used one, but in the shops they feel so much better than this Behringer mixer here on my desk! I'm going to replace that Behringer-thing for a Soundcraft mixing board (as soon as I have enough money :( ).

Do you know were I can find more information about the EPM 8? I'd like to buy that one, but I can't find good video's like this one!

Well, I gave you 5 stars for this video, and thanks for the information :)

  • I may be 8 but I have a band myself and that really might come in handy! Thanks!
