Hope that North Korea launch some nuclearbombs in your stupid country. Fuck you americans. RedMachine was better team. This tells us that you can win by luck in hockey.
Those kids did the impossible, beating the unbeatable Soviet Union-the best PRO team in the world. They make me so proud to be an American. I can watch this over and over, and the emotions still get me. Herb Brooks R.I.P.
I was 19 years old. myself and 4 friends took a 5 hour drive to lake placid. we were rangers season ticket holders, so we loved hockey! We arrived without tickets, unbelieveably we ran into a scalper we knew who worked msg. We gave him $60 apiece (total $300). He said hang on a few minutes. We got 5 seats upstairs behind the goal. We saw this event and at the time we considered this our stanley cup championship.
Why do people think we wanna read their opinions? I have now tried to watch 7 different clips just to clearly watch the last couple minutes. But every video has to write their friggin commentary on the worlds happenings, or play some stupid song in the background. This is why I hate You Tube. It could be a place to watch archival footage, but instead it becomes the poster's ego driven comment box. Some of these moments in time stand alone with no need for additional commentary.
Ny Islanders won the Stanley cup that year, first of 4 in a row... Ken morrow played on both the USA gold medalist and the cup winning Islanders. But I'm Canadian so I guess I should know eh?
The greatest fluke in hockey history! The USSR team of 1980 were the best team in the world. They just underestimated the USA that night! Believe me, if the Russians had taken the USA seriously that night the score would have been 10 - 0 in the soviets' favour! Hockey players like Kharlamov, Fetisov, Makarov, Krutov could crush any team!
Remember how they beat Canada 8-1 in 1981? Won the 1974 summit series, lost 2 golds from 56 to 88, won both the challenge cup and rendezvous and have 19 wc golds?
you are smartest man here, but yes no one cares about those little games its about the olympics, you think anyone can even remember who won the stanley cup back than or cares?
Crcracker1 is right. You'll never see this again because everyone uses NHL players now. It was more enjoyable when amatuers played in the Olympics. Olympic hockey is more like the NHL playoffs these days.
One of the greatest sports moments of all time. And for all those Canadians talking shit, shut up. You are good at hockey. Thats it. Ur lucky we let u play basketball and baseball in the same league. U half French bastards suck so bad at football that u had to make ur own league. USA! Canadian beer isn'that bad but it doesn't have anything on Yuengling.
Cause it's sometimes about working together to keep the opponents off the board...not always about those fantastic "shot-at-the-final-buzzer" kinda things. TEAMWORK. That's what got them here, and that's what they're celebrating at the end. GO USA.
While I would agree that many good hockey players are Canadian, many Czech (and other eastern Bloc countries) players are also touted as excellent (of course the USA as well). The place you're born in has no effect on your skill level. There is no "Hockey Gene" that Canadians have. What they DO have is a culture that encourages them to play Hockey as soon as they are old enough to skate.
I wish more than anything else that America had that mentality. The reason Canadians are viewed as better at hockey is that they are brought up playing hockey above all else, not because there is something inherently special about Canadian genealogy.
The Miracle was the fact that they won. That 20 kids from differing backgrounds came together to form a single cohesive unit to win that game against the vaunted russians. That the soviets were the winners of the gold medal every year from 1964 to 1976 and had not lost a game in that span to anyone including the all stars of the NHL. that 2 weeks prior they beat the US 13-1. The fact that they won was the miracle
I fail to see the miracle. Is it them beating the Canadians? Or is it the stalling for 30-20seconds? I'm not tryin to be mean, im just sayin, is it that they won, or that they won, by stalling? Cuz if its just the end... unless it was 3 to 3, and in the end they scored a goal at the very last second... I don't see the ULTIMATE GLORY at the very end, shouldn't the crowd be NOT surprised if they were ahead by a point, with 10 seconds on the clock?...
wow. you are an idiot. its basically 20 college hockey players beating the most dominant team of that era. if amateurs beating a group of professional veterans (who won 4 straight olympic gold medals) isnt a miracle to you, then you have a problem.
Cause it's sometimes about working together to keep the opponents off the board...not always about those fantastic "shot-at-the-final-buzzer" kinda things. TEAMWORK. That's what got them here, and that's what they're celebrating at the end. GO USA
Hey, I'm an American, but anyone who says "Canada sucks" is an a**hole. Hockey is Canada's game, and as great a sports moment as that was for the USA, it will always be their game. You guys who say that are probably the same idiots that boo the Canadian national anthem at hockey games, which may I add is a better anthem that the American anyway ("America" would have been far better.
While I am a SJ Sharks fan, I would like to see a Canadian team win the cup if they don't.
F*** you dude, I agree on the whole canada's game thing and all but this was not just the greatest moment in hockey in the 20th century, but the greatest thing in sports in the 20th centurty, when it comes to hockey or sports for that matter the U.S. owns that legacy. By the way if u really are from the U.S. u just sold out ur country, if ur lying and ur just saying that cuz ur a canadian trying to bash the U.S. u just sold out ur country. How does that make u feel?
Each country has its "Lake Placid 1980". So please stop interpreting your most amazing sports moment as world's most memorable sports moments. I like americans but they sometimes think they are centre of the universe.
mkliemann, Uhhh... I don't get it... USA scored 4, the others 3, and then there was 10 seconds left on the clock... then the 10 seconds turned to 0... So they basically just stalled for 28 seconds, and that is amazing? I don't get it... It can't be the most amazing, it might be one of the best moments for USA hockey lovers, but not some amazing feat accomplished by USA. Sure the scoring was an amazing feat, but why not say the most amazing is the scores, not the ending...
Great moment in sports history. I am a huge hockey fan. Although I do love Team Canada, (my Jersey arrived yesterday) and Canadian people. Toronto Rocks!! I think the most memorable hockey moment though does belong to the U.S. It was a "miracle' and we as a country needed it back then. As for Canada...we're going back in March, can't wait!!!!!!!!! the only thing equal to Canadian people is Canadian Beer!!!!

Yeah right. Is that way the USSR won the gold in hockey in 76, 72, 68, and 64? The last time the USA won the gold medal before that is when we bitch-slapped Canada in the '60 games.
Good job beating the USSR at that time. *rolleyes*
Yea, except it was Canada, so not only was it expected from a hockey country, nobody cared because it wasn't between the US and the USSR. Nobody cares about Canada.
Thank Clarke's cheap slash on Kharlamov for that tainted victory. Your Canada barely beat the Soviets with professionals from the NHL. That's not really something to brag about.
That being said, you can't said this wasn't a miracle. Team USA winning even one hockey game now days is considered a miracle.
Nothing tops this moment. The US hockey team that had players who couldn't even make it on a team in the NHL beat the worlds best hockey team that won 4 straight golds before 1980, and another after in 1984.
