You want to fight him in his mortal disguise, wich would by lore be really stupid. Dragons hate taking the form of a mortal, and they're much stronger in dragon form, so it makes sense that you see Deathwing as a dragon through it all.
ppl have there opinions but mine are with him cause I see this as a disappointment and ppl who say you need to read the fight b4 going into raids/dung's can blow it out there ass if you pull it it off 1st try

And yes I actually did expect the Deathwing fight to play like this. Deathwing was corrupted by the Old Gods and they started to take over his body like Cho'Gall and it does seem fitting to have to put an end to him inside the Maelstrom and have his body be corrupted.
First impale is a warning. basically. it increases thew damage done to you when u get hit again..witch is why u need an OT to taunt till ur impale debuff is gone

LOL thats not much of a fight, and deathwing does have a few moves that can devastate you in one shot. More than phases, there are two deathwing encounters with help from powerful NPCs. DW is EPIC and we are less than ants, we are bacteria that must parse with the immune system then pwn his hands LOL!

A big ol' dragon like that could just smash down w/ his arm and easily kill all of us. Why is he so stupid at fighting? Anyways, raiding is still fun as hell, but this was a definitely a letdown.
@LukeShetler You could say that about Lich king to? He could easily do what he does at 10% as soon as you pull but he doesn't ? It's not about being realistic or clever, it's about being fun and people enjoy this boss.
@LukeShetler Arthas could have casted Fury of Frostmourne right at the start of the Encounter and killed us all. Onyxia could have stayed airborne for the entire fight and no melee damage would have gotten off. Malygos could have shattered the platform before the red dragonflight arrived etc etc etc. If you start thinking logically in WoW then you'll spoil your own fun, they're mechanics you silly goose. However, I agree the fights mechanics were repetitive and boring either way.

I mean, fighting on his back? What if the dragon soul made him crash into a cavern and we had a subterranean battle. The dragon soul is trying to crystalize his body and he's sending all sorts of shit at us to try and kill us. While the cavern is getting progressively hotter.

Having played WC3, I was totally psyched about going to Northrend and killing the LK. I can't remember even a mention of Deathwing in other WC games, though it was many years ago and my memory isn't perfect.

My opinion, as I made clear many times, is that DEATHWING DIED IN WARCRAFT 2! IT WAS A MISSION! YOU TAKE ALLERIA, YOU CLIMB A MOUNTAIN, AND YOU KILL HIM. HE DIED. HE'S GONE. Blizzard then just shrugged and was like "LOL, that dinna happen!" easiest raid in wow is dragon soul (first boss,spine of deathwing,madness of deathwing) weakist bosses ever they're like elites and not bosses lich king 25 HC wasn't killed until a miracle happened and they killed him normal got some tier and then killed him with nearly a wipe (that was way after wotlk was out)
It would be an epic fight if: phase one Human form nuka a lot of him epic spells he is casting on you..then in a final phase he falls in to the maelstrom and rising like the dragon it is now with adds etc etc..that would be much more epic.

This is a video of the test realm, prior to the actual release of the patch. This fight is crazy difficult on normal mode, I cant even imagine Heroic. It is a very fun fight I have to admit, this video simply makes it appear easy.
Lich King was epic and got a death vid. Deathwing could have had an epic vid or atleast more lines. He is definitely on of the worse expac bosses, but at least hes not the worse. I have to agree i would like to fight him face to face, but the quest in the Badlands covered that when i got to punch him in the face. Still though hes pretty lame and they really need more lines. I went through the worst expansion for one little thing of lines. i cant imagine how bad panda boss will be. omg...
You are aware that they said that this fight is only half of the Deathwing fight, correct? According to Blizzard, there will be an upfront encounter with Deathwing later on.

I agree with you that the fight is really kind of weak, however i believe that the way the forms were fine. All i would have done differently is make his human form first. I also agree with you i would love to fight deathwing in person. However i can see why they did this. Deathwing is a dragon aspect, so his power is unmatched by nothing except the other aspects. I would just say let the dragon aspects actually sort of restrain him when you fight him in person.
(Adding to last comment) What's more is this fight could have been a thousand times better, I had such high expectations for this fight and it is just so awful, when you down the tentacles he puts his head down summons a few adds that are motionless and that have about 700k health each, then he summons two more larger adds with around 6550k each, dps them down and then transfer all damage to Deathwing's head which only has 56,500k health left and you down him with easy and get your nice weapons
This fight is truly pathetic, I am sorry but I watched last night as my ten year old brother downed this fight with ease, no one died and the fight was so simple I've seen harder things in heroics. Honestly you hit the tentacle and deal with some adds then jump to another platform it's like gunship to be honest. Not to mention you get three different buffs on the first tentacle, one does 20% more damage another does 20% faster hit speed (like Bloodlust) and i'm not sure on the last one, really?
if this is the riad then cata is the best fail in wow why can we deafeat a ancient powerfull dragon and the aspects millions time stronger then the players not?

i gotta say though, this was the ptr, and the fight is alot diffrent now, in terms of tune-up..
They didnt even rotate the cds on the tentacles, nor did they use Ysera's dream cd, if u dont use it, u literally do get oneshotted by the Impale as it does arround 400k dmg..
so ye it was seriously undertuned on the ptr.. not a hard fight tho, but im doing more dps than 3 of their ppl in that raid as a tank.. so it was funny how pathetically undertuned that fight was.. took the fun out of it im sure
This whole raid was a disappointment. I really think this raid LOOKED GOOD, but it played horribly.....I mean I realize Deathwing is like a fallen aspect and pretty much a god of sorts...but...they should've added like amazing cutscenes, or a cool way to cross from tentacle to tentacle.....and such. Maybe should've made an amazing BARELL ROLL. He doesn't even actually barrel roll!!....the heroic better have extras like ragnaros fight did. Ragnaros was AMAZING in heroic. AMAZING.

Arthas was human, and could be countered by humans. Deathwing was NOT human and to have him defeated by 'mortals' would have cheapened his role as an Aspect.
The fight's respectable if you understand that deathwing was corrupted ten thousand years ago by an old god, and the corruption has turned him into this.
Of course your not going to fight deathwing. You expect to be able to fight on par with a fallen aspect who's very touch creates volcanoes and sears your flesh from your bones? Ha, that's a ridiculous expectation. I'm only annoyed that the encounter itself wasn't focused to much around gathering power for the Dragon Soul.

I think it'd of been cool if the battle with Deathwing the aspects transform you into a Dragon and you fight alongside Thrall and the other dragons, have like a dogfight encounter then Deathwing transforms into his humanoid form after being weakned and your to kill him before he regains his power. But Blizz is pinning more on Mist of Panderia.
i think on a serten point he should grab you and fly with you to orcgrimmar of what ever the name is of the horde place or to stormwind and there the fight should be ended when you can run in and out the buildings and he can destroy it and you should use some HUGE weapons like cannons or whatever to kill him ...

Having played WC3, I was totally psyched about going to Northrend and killing the LK. I can't remember even a mention of Deathwing in other WC games, though it was many years ago and my memory isn't perfect.

easiest raid in wow is dragon soul (first boss,spine of deathwing,madness of deathwing) weakist bosses ever they're like elites and not bosses lich king 25 HC wasn't killed until a miracle happened and they killed him normal got some tier and then killed him with nearly a wipe (that was way after wotlk was out)

It would be an epic fight if: phase one Human form nuka a lot of him epic spells he is casting on you..then in a final phase he falls in to the maelstrom and rising like the dragon it is now with adds etc etc..that would be much more epic.

This is a video of the test realm, prior to the actual release of the patch. This fight is crazy difficult on normal mode, I cant even imagine Heroic. It is a very fun fight I have to admit, this video simply makes it appear easy.

Lich King was epic and got a death vid. Deathwing could have had an epic vid or atleast more lines. He is definitely on of the worse expac bosses, but at least hes not the worse. I have to agree i would like to fight him face to face, but the quest in the Badlands covered that when i got to punch him in the face. Still though hes pretty lame and they really need more lines. I went through the worst expansion for one little thing of lines. i cant imagine how bad panda boss will be. omg...

I agree with you that the fight is really kind of weak, however i believe that the way the forms were fine. All i would have done differently is make his human form first. I also agree with you i would love to fight deathwing in person. However i can see why they did this. Deathwing is a dragon aspect, so his power is unmatched by nothing except the other aspects. I would just say let the dragon aspects actually sort of restrain him when you fight him in person.

(Adding to last comment) What's more is this fight could have been a thousand times better, I had such high expectations for this fight and it is just so awful, when you down the tentacles he puts his head down summons a few adds that are motionless and that have about 700k health each, then he summons two more larger adds with around 6550k each, dps them down and then transfer all damage to Deathwing's head which only has 56,500k health left and you down him with easy and get your nice weapons

This fight is truly pathetic, I am sorry but I watched last night as my ten year old brother downed this fight with ease, no one died and the fight was so simple I've seen harder things in heroics. Honestly you hit the tentacle and deal with some adds then jump to another platform it's like gunship to be honest. Not to mention you get three different buffs on the first tentacle, one does 20% more damage another does 20% faster hit speed (like Bloodlust) and i'm not sure on the last one, really?

i gotta say though, this was the ptr, and the fight is alot diffrent now, in terms of tune-up..
They didnt even rotate the cds on the tentacles, nor did they use Ysera's dream cd, if u dont use it, u literally do get oneshotted by the Impale as it does arround 400k dmg..
so ye it was seriously undertuned on the ptr.. not a hard fight tho, but im doing more dps than 3 of their ppl in that raid as a tank.. so it was funny how pathetically undertuned that fight was.. took the fun out of it im sure

This whole raid was a disappointment. I really think this raid LOOKED GOOD, but it played horribly.....I mean I realize Deathwing is like a fallen aspect and pretty much a god of sorts...but...they should've added like amazing cutscenes, or a cool way to cross from tentacle to tentacle.....and such. Maybe should've made an amazing BARELL ROLL. He doesn't even actually barrel roll!!....the heroic better have extras like ragnaros fight did. Ragnaros was AMAZING in heroic. AMAZING.

Arthas was human, and could be countered by humans. Deathwing was NOT human and to have him defeated by 'mortals' would have cheapened his role as an Aspect.

The fight's respectable if you understand that deathwing was corrupted ten thousand years ago by an old god, and the corruption has turned him into this.
Of course your not going to fight deathwing. You expect to be able to fight on par with a fallen aspect who's very touch creates volcanoes and sears your flesh from your bones? Ha, that's a ridiculous expectation. I'm only annoyed that the encounter itself wasn't focused to much around gathering power for the Dragon Soul.

Glad I quit. Sorry if you are still playing, but seriously, there are only so many more things they can add to this game before it becomes monotonous. As said by QSfreakZ, tentacles again? I get that it's another old god, but come on. It's DEATHWING. Disappointing end to this expansion pack. I couldn't believe it when I saw they were redoing Ragnarok, especially after Naxx again. I'm guessing Tempest Keep is in the next one?

I think it'd of been cool if the battle with Deathwing the aspects transform you into a Dragon and you fight alongside Thrall and the other dragons, have like a dogfight encounter then Deathwing transforms into his humanoid form after being weakned and your to kill him before he regains his power. But Blizz is pinning more on Mist of Panderia.

i think on a serten point he should grab you and fly with you to orcgrimmar of what ever the name is of the horde place or to stormwind and there the fight should be ended when you can run in and out the buildings and he can destroy it and you should use some HUGE weapons like cannons or whatever to kill him ...
