Slowing the exponential growth rate of energy use does nothing but destroy the economy and increase the size of government with no environmental effect whatsoever. As peak oil approaches the cost of oil will naturally cause a decrease in consumption. We will run out of oil before anything meaningful could be done to help the environment.
