This song really speaks to me on an emotional and spiritiual level since i was diagnosed with leukemia back in the '80s i used to hang around with the bandmembers backstage and we listened to motley crue and drank jack daniels from da bottle, man those were good times, really makes me reflect on the emptyness, the dark void that is life, make long walks through the forest playing with my sphyncter, and listening to this song on my ipod. \,,/
This song really speaks "Nattramn", and near the end when he does a monotone growl, I thought that was brilliant, because that's the only low you'll get from him in the entire album. My question is, who the hell is Ariel?
i agree with @MorbidAngel2011 playing video games means nothing and how is freedom of speech ignorance and i love how you just have nothing to say you know hes right
@MorbidAngel2011 that's irrelevant....so by that assumtion everyone that plays video games is not worthy to listen to metal.....trust me you poser i listen to wayy more underground shit than you have ever heard of and i play video games what the FUCK does that have to do with anything???!!
This music is "true" philosophy. Wisdom written down in form of melody and cries. There is no "meaning" of life. Pain and death are the only answers. But I'm not as sad as I used to be. I just have to deal with the "enlightenment" given by pain and sorrow. From this perspective everything becomes clear and pure. I don't know how these guys achieved it, but Silencer is the purest form of art I've ever experienced.
@nienawisc1000 I love art and life. They are the same thing. Not all of it is bad and not all of it is good. There is no real "meaning" of life. Our life is a blank canvas and we paint it however we chose. :) No need to be sad. You control your life. \m/
@WolfieBlack1 Thank you very much for your response. But actually i ment something different. You really cannot paint anything, because life is no canvas. The pure philospohy of this music is the poetry of the impossibility to control life. It is the total emptiness, that makes this music so pure. The loss of any illusion. You can't reach beyond death. Therefore, there really is no good in this life - but also nothing bad. Just emptiness, absurdity and... silence by the time life shoots you.
@nienawisc1000 You're welcome That's kind of a sad way of looking at life though man. I don't believe in an almighty creator or "god" but we don't just rot in the ground. Something happens whether it be our Earth becomes our eternal throne and we wander aimlessly as a spirit or we reach a higher state of consciousness that we can't fathom in our modern state. We do control life. We can end it whenever we want or we can keep going 'til we reach where we want to be. It's mind over matter my friend
@WolfieBlack1 Hello:) The fact, that my way of looking at life seems to be "sad" doesn't change a thing. Forget metaphysics and take the consequences out the death of God. Than I guess you are not a person anymore; you have no "free will"; you do not control anything; there is nothing "beyond"; no "eternity", no "spirit". And most important: in my modest opinion there is no "mind" which could be either below or above "matter". That's honestly the way I feel. But maybe I'm just wrong.
@WolfieBlack1 In a strange way I am. But I would prefer to call it a "felling" rather than a "belief" or a (rational) "perspective". A feeling, which is very hard to describe in words (in polish would be easier for me). That's why I called this song so "pure", because it somehow confirms my attitude. So am I content with my perspective? I try to answer your question in the most proper way: Remember, that the background of our interesting discussion is Silencer's "The slow kill in the cold":)
Throw Out And Kill Nurish And I''''''''''''''''ll Breathe The Death Die Some Because Emptiness Has Grown Old Fire Descending The Slow Kill In The Cold Cast Me Into Depths Observe Slowly Sinking Down Through Dark Waters The Reflection Of Dead Eyes A Dark Figure Blinded By The Rage And Tripped In Chaos Running Into Walls
The more aggressive parts of their songs, mostly when Nattramn " sings ", are certainly not for everybody, but anyone pretending that the intro of this song sucks can die right now. This intro, as well as Death Pierce Me intro and Sterile Nails intro, are absolute pieces of melancholic beauty.
@Kryp6 There's a difference between disliking something and saying that it sucks, dude. There are songs I dislike but in which I can recognize some valuable work.
@jacksonlefteye Very true. But I would also mention the final part of the song "Death - Pierce Me" which is, in my opinion, the most depressing part of that album and Black Metal in general...

Yeah, I'm a happy guy and I like to listen to plenty of this dark depressive stuff (bye bye stereotypes) and lots of other stuff.
I enjoy listening to this music, I find the vocals amusing, and then addictive. I like the music!
And I feel great! XD
