Cool to see someone else playing around with the .22 lr at longer ranges. Check out my channel i have a few videos shooting at long range also! Nice shooting. Keep up the good work
this weekend we we're shooting our 22 about about 200 yards yesterday with a strong crosswind, no problems at all, though was a hard target, we had a shoot off (of witch i won :D ) to see who would hit a shot gun shell at that distance first, did i mention it was a 22 my grandpa got towards then end of ww2?
According to test preformed by shooting magazine the max velocity from 22 lr is from about 18 inch barrel and in test started with about 24 " and measured velocity at muzzle with 10 rounds and then cut 1" off and repeated. there is a finite amount of powder to burn and expand and in 22 lr is not a great amount and after speed maxes out extra barrel will slow down bullet.
200 yd shooting with a .22 is awesome. i tried that but at a steel plate. as long as there is no wind everything is cool. i have a mil dot scope that helps as aiming points. nice video
What you are doing is by not even moderately difficult with that gun rest you've got there. I'm guessing this video is just a proof of concept, to show the maximum range that a .22 would be able to hit anything, under perfect /unrealistic conditions?
I shot 75 yds, at about the same conditions, low wind. however, i had open sights, and my gun wasnt set up, i was free-handing it. same sized targets. it only took my one shot. and im 15.
I did a bit of shooting with my marlin bolt action at just over 200 yards. I was getting about the same kind of accuracy as in this video, missed a couple shots, but for the most part surprisingly accurate. Calm day but by my figuring the bullet has nearly two feet of drop at that distance. I've also done 100 yard shooting with a ruger mk II handgun, .22 ammunition is surprisingly versitile.
I know the guy isn't BS'ing. I have a Remington 597 with a Bushnell 3-9 x32 scope that reaches out to 300 yards (not feet) with CCI 40 grains. Its pretty easy to do actually. I forgot to mention I have a bipod on it. I Just zero it at 100 yards and then dope the scope for 5 inches drop for every 100 extra yards. Compensate with mil dots for windage and, boom, you hit the mark. The heavier grain bullet, the more predictable in the wind.
@CharlieDoan Because 75 yards is boring! I have a Ruger Mk. 2 with a 6 7/8" barrel and a scope on it that I sometimes shoot out to 100 yards or a little more with success. I think that CZ in the video has a 24" barrel but a shorter barreled .22 will get the job done, too. I don't condone hunting with a .22 at these extended ranges but just blasting like what I'm doing is fun and challenging. I'd try 300 just because but my scope would run out of elevation adjustment.
@peacemaker50cal it didnt work out so I took it off. It was supposed to in effect raise the comb of the stock to accomodate the scope. Problem was that it was too high and got in the way. I don't remember what i did with it. It might have been made by Uncle Mikes but I couldnt swear to it.
When zeroed for 100 yards (91 meters), the trajectory of the standard high-velocity .22 LR with a 40-grain (2.6 g) bullet has a 2.7-inch (69 mm) rise at 50 yards (46 meters), and 10.8 inches (270 mm) drop at 150 yards (137 meters). A .22 LR rifle needs to be zeroed for 75 yards (69 m) to avoid over-shooting small animals like squirrels at intermediate distances. :)
@jodyrector99 With a 50 yd zero it'll drop about that much or a little more at 100 yds but we're talking 200 yds and that is a big difference for a .22LR.
Its funny how you say that I remember reading several years ago about a fellow in Africa who fired a 22 long rifle at an elephant in effort to scare it away from his garden. Unfortunately, he hit the poor beast and dropped it in its tracks with a single, misplaced round, and then really had a hell of a time getting it out.
@JohnTheRipper2 yeah, i use aguila 22 60 grain subsonic rounds for long range. Like you said, no transsonic range, and a very heavy bullet reduces wind effect.
I have a 700 yard range on 200 acres, and shoot up to 500 yards with the .22LR. At that range, with the sun to your back, the bullet rises above the scope's field-of-view, and reappears from the top some seconds later. The magnification of the scope makes the bullet appear to drop vertically back into view. Can hit a 24" round cast iron "gong" 10/10 once the wind is figured. Several rifles used, including Anschutz 64 w/Unertl scope.
My friend has one. It was hard for me to get a high powered so i had to get a .22LR.....But my gosh i bought the same gun because it is the most amazing feeling .22LR ive ever held. Cost about 3-400 more than all the other ones but so worth it.
Sorry, forgot to say Nice video! & range! Dont you love those dam CZs!? So accurate out of the box! I shaved my sear/disconnector down so cut down on that horrible takeup. It breaks clean now at about 2.4 lbs
I'd like to get the varmint or American 452model one of these days. I put a Brooks trigger spring in mine to reduce the trigger pull back not long after I got it.
My CZ452 ZKM shooting velociters I hit rabbits with no problem out to 225 meters and they are DEAD when shot. I have a 452 with Tipoff/Weaver base adapters, a Sweet 22 dialed in out to 235 yards on my ranch. check out my video of a 7 inch gong being hit at 195 yards

those people are only alive because i wasnt shoooting that bullet. haha but your right some people have harder heads than others.. go figure lol. but seriously there was a guy that got shot 5 times in the head at point blank range in the town neighboring mine by some lunatic and the guy survived and was able to to point him out in court. but then again it makes u wonder where he got shot in the head. all in all a .22 LR is still a real life bullet that can drop a reallly alive person
i have read of a test with subsonic 22lr being deadley and accurate enuff to kill at 300 yards that was done with 7 layers close. they went through the test subject completly
So many people underestimate a .22 It would have no problem killing someone within a reasonable range. More people are killed by .22's than any other caliber. Partly in fact to many people dont give it the respect it needs and are careless with it and they end up getting killed. But damn they are fun fun to shoot lol
CCI Stingers... there a bit more expensive, but they are much more consistant and each shell is inspected unlike mass produced Rem.,HLR, etc. shells. Good luck with the new gun. Cheers, C. Mullikin
Good video.I used to do Silhouette Shooting in South Africa(Now in the UK) and had also a BRNO CZ 452.I had a Lynx 6-24 on it and was SUPER accurate with any bullets. The best actually was with with CCI Mini Mags and then the hard hitter,Winchester Super Silhouette 42gr High Velocity. The latter one looked like a miniture 357mag and consistant in all conditions, but pricy at time.I can only dream now here in the UK about those days.Try to get hold of them and see the diference.
I haven't found any ammo yet that shoots poorly in this CZ. Some just shoots better than others.
I know there are other shooters that post shooting videos from the UK so it must be legal to **some** extent to own firearms there. You ought to check into it and get back into shooting.
Yes,it is true about the any ammo shoots straight in the CZ 452. Well,if yo can get hold of the Winchester Super Silhouette 42gr High Velocity, you will never want to use ANY other ammo when it comes to varminting. The best is to see meerkat's head exlode make it a hollow point!LOL
Use a 1.5mm drill bit, doing it manualy is best and make the cavity about 3mm and paste some beeswax into it.
I will let you know when I'm in the US,would like to meet you and the CZ 452.
Was this gun modified? I am waiting for my Leupold 6.5-20x40 VX-III E.F.R scope from SWFA and I can't shoot my new CZ 452 Varmint til next week when it arrives.
I lightened the trigger pull by replacing a spring, free-floated the barrel (if that even matters with a .22), Replaced the sling swivels with wider ones, and the scope.
I had contemplated a 452 Varmint but I bought a 1940's vintage Remington model 121 instead.
Enjoy your new toy and post some video's of it when you get it. With that 20X Leupold you'll be able to see everything!
me and my friends tryed this at 270 yards today and it was pretty sick but were going to try a 300 yard shot possibly further and well try to make a video of it too
yeah ill try to get a uninocular to hook up to my camera cause i tryed it today and we couldn't even see where the targets were with it zoomed in but we had perfect weather conditions with maybe a 3 mph breeze at most.
My scope would run out of elevation adjustment before I got that far. It's damn near topped out as it is now. How often were you actually able to hit them at 260 yds?
I actually just milled the target not making any adjustments to my elevation. I was dead on at 100yds so I just milled up from there. I found my zero at 260 after 3 shots then hit every one from there (with the occasional 1 miss when the wind picked up). Granted I didn't have as much wind as it looked like in this video, you still have to trust your instincts when shooting this kind of range with this weapon.
I shot 4" clay pigeons my stock Ruger 10/22 with a fixed Bushnell at 260yds on Friday and had no problem. Like you said nothing special but you need to know how to shoot!
A stock 10/22 can rarely shoot 3 MOA at 100 yards, that means you had a 5 foot holdover and somehow pulled off hitting a 4 inch target with a gun that isnt capable of shooting more than a 9 inch group at 260...... If that really is the case you got a great gun and are a good shooter. alot of people could never even approach that accuracy at 260.
Believe me I am not one of those guys that comes on YouTube to talk shit. But that was one of the best days I have shot. I ran out of rounds for my .223 so I thought I would try the .22 for the hell of it. I will have to make a video this summer to show what my rugar can do at 260.

Sorry but I don't have a clue about the Remington model 5. I had to look it up just to see what it looks like.

Beats the shit out of me. A .22 LR is not exactly what I'd choose for that purpose.

Hell, I'd go nuts if I couldn't go shooting.

I will let you know when I'm in the US,would like to meet you and the CZ 452.

nice video..all good info too. I'm thinking of getting a 22 rifle, and I wasn't even sure you could get a 22 out to 200 yards.
Check out my vid of shooting a 223 at 180 yards. The camera is zoomed in to 48X, and you can see the shockwaves of the bullets in flight.

WOW when u zoom out it looks ALOT farther.

I can't take too much credit, though, because I was shooting off of the bench for this video.

Was this gun modified? I am waiting for my Leupold 6.5-20x40 VX-III E.F.R scope from SWFA and I can't shoot my new CZ 452 Varmint til next week when it arrives.
cramsa 3 years ago
I lightened the trigger pull by replacing a spring, free-floated the barrel (if that even matters with a .22), Replaced the sling swivels with wider ones, and the scope.
I had contemplated a 452 Varmint but I bought a 1940's vintage Remington model 121 instead.
Enjoy your new toy and post some video's of it when you get it. With that 20X Leupold you'll be able to see everything!

me and my friends tryed this at 270 yards today and it was pretty sick but were going to try a 300 yard shot possibly further and well try to make a video of it too
Masahiro121 3 years ago
I'm looking forward to that video.

yeah ill try to get a uninocular to hook up to my camera cause i tryed it today and we couldn't even see where the targets were with it zoomed in but we had perfect weather conditions with maybe a 3 mph breeze at most.
Masahiro121 3 years ago
Looks like a nice .22LR I'm not familiar with them. Another 5-Stars! Good info on the bullet compensation per range conditions!

Thanks!
I bought this CZ in 2003. It was about $180back then but they have gone up since.

My scope would run out of elevation adjustment before I got that far. It's damn near topped out as it is now. How often were you actually able to hit them at 260 yds?
3OCALM1 3 years ago
I actually just milled the target not making any adjustments to my elevation. I was dead on at 100yds so I just milled up from there. I found my zero at 260 after 3 shots then hit every one from there (with the occasional 1 miss when the wind picked up). Granted I didn't have as much wind as it looked like in this video, you still have to trust your instincts when shooting this kind of range with this weapon.

I shot 4" clay pigeons my stock Ruger 10/22 with a fixed Bushnell at 260yds on Friday and had no problem. Like you said nothing special but you need to know how to shoot!
edogz1023 3 years ago
A stock 10/22 can rarely shoot 3 MOA at 100 yards, that means you had a 5 foot holdover and somehow pulled off hitting a 4 inch target with a gun that isnt capable of shooting more than a 9 inch group at 260...... If that really is the case you got a great gun and are a good shooter. alot of people could never even approach that accuracy at 260.

Believe me I am not one of those guys that comes on YouTube to talk shit. But that was one of the best days I have shot. I ran out of rounds for my .223 so I thought I would try the .22 for the hell of it. I will have to make a video this summer to show what my rugar can do at 260.
edogz1023 3 years ago
I belive ya, I cant wait to see that!
