@wendyspwnsu Yeah, after 3 years he's still doing great. He's 11 now, so he has slowed down a little, but he still likes to celebrate here and there by running back and forth and trying to get our other dog and our cat to play.
aww.. Poor baby.. I understand what your going thru, it is never fun to see your baby going thru surgery, and I don't know about you, but I hate those collars, I think it is more pain for the owner than the dog..
Glad to see things went well for Java. Our 10 yr old sheltie Holly was hospitalized today for gall bladder issues. She was home recovering from kidney disease which affected her pancreas. After a rough weekend we feared her kidneys may have shutdown and took her in expecting to say good bye to our pup. After a bloodt est and an ultrasound exam her kidney function was up tp 9.49% but her gall bladder was enlarged mass. Once her vitals stabilize she'll have her gall bladder removed.
@scrato77 Oh, that's got to be so tough having all those problems with your pup. I also thought we were going to lose our pup, but fortunately it all worked out and he's still doing fine. He'll be 10 in 2 months. I hope we'll get 4 more years of having him around. It's so sad when our beloved pets have serious health problems. May your Holly come out of this OK.
@EssentialDegnities Java is fine. For about 3 months he did have some kind of leg problem where his gate wasn't even, but that seems to have gone away. His fur looks a little dry these days and I'm not sure if that's due to his age or what. He's a happy loving dog, still quite alert.
@marnixva Thank you for the information on Java! He is a Cute dog and I was really worried about hims when I first saw your video! How is the cat? :-)
@EssentialDegnities The cat, "Webster", is fine except for losing hair on his tummy for some reason. The vet suspects an allergy of some kind, but we don't know for sure yet. Java and Webster still often sleep together.
My sheltie is going through the exact same thing. He's in the ICU and I'm worried he won't survive. Please have your sheltie send him good sheltie thoughts.
@Anim8rbear Oh, I really understand your worries. We were very scared. He seemed so sick that we really thought he might not make it. But he survived it all and has been fine ever since except maybe for leg trouble that we only recently noticed. Java will be sending all the good Sheltie vibes he can muster to Anim8rbear's Sheltie.
@marnixava Thank you so much for your words of encouragement. Isaac should be coming home today after 4 days in the ICU. Its been a rough ride, but I'm hopeful everything works out. Isaac is a little bit older than Java. (Isaac is 11) So maybe his slower healing is due to his age. Now we start the two weeks of post op monitoring to make sure there are no complications. Thanks for your reply.
I'm very glad for your dog and you guys that he is ok. My dog has the same exact thing wrong with him but he went into surgery yesterday and he is gonna be okay. I know how you feel when you said you though you were going to lose him. Looking into the dogs eyes seeing him crying for help is so sad. Although the surgery was expensive it was worth every pennie. Again i'm glad for your dog that he/she is ok and i cant wait to see my dog after recovery. :)
Indeed, there's nothing like looking at an innocent dogs eyes when he's hurting inside. It can break your heart. Of course, there comes a time when you have to make that final decision. We all just hope that time comes after they are well into old age and that they will have had full, loving lives..
you can tell he's so intelligent. it's so endearing when he eats the food so gently frm the owner's hand. so smart. i guess most dogs do that too. he looked abit sad tho'. :>
He is his old self again. He has to take a particular pill once a day. We put it in his food and he eats it without even realizing it. I have another youtube movie taken months after his surgery with him going crazy and playing with the cat.
Shelties are awesome! Love you lil' guy! I left a video response. Yes, my shelties are a bit plump. The huge lump on Roxy's leg is gone...that was weird. Anyway...hugs and kisses to you lil' love.
so glad hes feeling better
