I think most people who said they were brought here from the simpsons most likely heard this song before somewhere else. The Simpsons just somehow got them off the couch to go find it, i guess. You would have to be living in the core of the earth to not have heard this song at least once before, while living in north America.
This sublimely-romantic song reminds me of this quote. "How did it happen that their lips came together? How dd it happen that birds sing, that snow melts, that the ROSE unfolds, that the dawn whitens behind the stark shapes of trees on the quivering summit of the hill? A kiss, and all was said" -- Victor Hugo
A Yardley of London TV ad (from long ago). This song is like a summer's daydream that never left my mind. This one is for us, My Lady Barbra Rose (now in Heaven's resplendent garden).
I found this song because of Simpsons aswell but it doesn't make me less of an idiot or more. Just like you I appreciate the song for it's groovyness and creativity , i even found this ages ago (at 15 years) yaay give me a pat on the shoulder now no but seriously no matter how old you are or where you found the song doesn't matter as long as you appreciate it. That's my 0.02$.
This is the first Youtube vid I couldn't back out of ... it kept starting again! I want one without Colonel H20 on it to show others how it really looks. Anyway, this is a great album we bought new back when it came out. I guess that makes me old, damn.
@jamesoverend i'm sorry you took the comment that way. I'm very happy more people get exposed to great music no matter how it is. It just gets annoying with The Simpsons and Family Guy become the main sources of historical musical reference. It's kinda lazy. "How else do you learn anything?" You say, seriously???.....oh I dunno, perhaps turn off the Simpsons & go to a record store, talk to people who know more than you about music, ASK ALOT OF QUESTIONS for starters...that's what I did/do.
yeah, not to dis the poster, glad you posted ColonelH2O. but i agree. I was on a search for good music ever since i was old enough to remember, looking everywhere other than the radio or tv, and found there is much better music if you take that route..
Musical elitism is just another form of insecurity, who cares what the source of discovery is, if you hear good music ANYWHERE its gonna be appreciated no matter if its just a snippet in a tv show. Look at it like this: how many people took the time to pause their tv show to figure out what that good music is and who made it?
I first heard this song on a mixed Donovan tape my girlfriend at the time gave me, apart from that if the young ones only get to hear good music from TV shows well at lest they get the opputunity
Lol why do people get all mad if they discovered this song cause of The Simpsons? Get the fuck over it you fucking little pussy ass bitches come to my fucking hood and ill show you whats up. 45 BLOCK ALL DAY
I think it's pretty sad and pathetic that it always seems to take an episode of "Family Guy" or "The Simpsons" to get people to discover good music. What an unambitious society we find ourselves in.
@astronautagogo How about you be grateful that the creative people on these shows introduced this music so that the non elitest like you can appreciate it. Who gives a shit if I found this on The Simpsons. I'm glad I did and I can enjoy it like you so how about you and others stop being Hipsters and enjoy this good music!
Don’t be such a pompous dick! It's not unambitious if people subsequently bother to look the music up. How else do you learn anything? I wonder how many people went out and bought this LP as a consequence of hearing it on TV... That's how older music is kept alive and made relevant to younger people.
@astronautagogo I consume music like a vacuum and the first time I heard this song was on the Simpsons. It wasn't due to a lack of trying but this is an old song and sometimes they get lost in because they are old.
The 80's??? Try the 60's. It was a top hit and tons of radio play. i was showing my age gently, or so I thought. Great memories....swinging on the swing set in the yard in the summer jamming to this song...as a first grader
If you like this you'll love "For Little ones" (album/CD). You'll probably have to buy the double album/CD to get it since I don't think they make just that album by itself anymore.......look into it .....you'll be glad you did.......let me know what you think after you listen................................homy
I first heard this song back in the '60s and always loved it. Years later, this song gave me one more reason to love THE SIMPSONS, and reconfirm their absolute undeniable coolness!!!!!!
I heard this song when it first came out...a long time ago. I may be old but I grew up with all these fabulous musicians from the 60's....my generation and I am so so proud to be a part of it all.
Weekend At Burnsie's was the name of episode from Season 13 of " THE SIMPSONS".... and it is one of my favorite episodes..........if it's one of your's 2 then, vote this post up.......;)
My father used to play Donovan's songs while i was a kid. Now Donovan is one of the bests for me. Incredible memories I have everytime I hear classic songs. I would never remember the day in the river, or the places I visited during vacations, before reaching to my uncle's house. When I hear Donovan, Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc, it hits me like a bullet. That's the kind of feeling i can't have with the modern music.
@kayak0055 Some songs that have a similar vibe and sound to this would include Stardust The music sounds better with you, Daft Punk One more time, Planet Funk Chase the sun, Cassius 1999, Superman Lovers Starlight, Spiller-Groovejet if this aint love, Modjo Lady, Modjo Chillin. Jamiroquai's 'Space Cowboy' also has a similar sound. By the way, I like music from all eras except the post 9/11 era, which has really gone downhill fast.
Wear your love like heaven (wear your love) Lord, kiss me once more Fill me with song Allah, kiss me once more That I may, that I may Wear my love like heaven (wear my love like) Wear my love like heaven (wear my love) La, la, la-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la Colour sky havana lake Colour sky rose carmethene Alizarian crimson Wear your love like heaven
@halcyon0830 Dont you just love the imagery of those beautiful lyrics? Gorgeous evening skies kissed by Donovan's artistry brushes. Alizarian crimson.........
@11xzxzxz Well, that's all a matter of taste isn't it? Does my awkward taste in music make me a bad person? You'll probably answer yes to that won't you?
@deprogramer69 No it's my awkward way of finding a new friend. Seriously, I believe many great people don't care for music and it makes no difference. And if you like this song there is hope. Hey thanks for not getting bent out of shape and doing what 90% of people do when I criticize a song: calling me names You responded in an inquisitive and humane way. See I criticized you and that is rare - I usually just stick to the song and you were very mature.. thanks and take care.
Weed loves me, as I love weed. She was always there for me during my hardest days. Now if the fat cats with bald heads in black suits on the steps of the white house can realize that......
@Marz0824 Causes short term memory lose, not to mention takes away inhibitions and ambition. Most pot smokers end up BUMS...sad to say...I ought to know...I was a FLOWER CHILD...everyone is now dead.
and what if when you're older, and your hardest days fall in with the moments of your childhood where you remember crying but in which you recall no feelings, and your bald head sticks out of clothes you've put on because you've stopped caring for the meaning they might have, and some young buck speaks some fast words about what you are, will you care what he says?
@RaiderNationPodcast Hey man, congrats, you lived the best age in music in all history. In name of the current generation i beg your pardon for all the untalented music we're producing these years. It must be so deceiving to see how good music vanished...
It was the casette era. And we made our favourite compilations which was 90 minutes of goodies one after the other and these compilations were much sought after and trade like gold. I left mine in Vientiane, Lao.
There used to be a vid here (aud only) of Donovan doing the trad hymn "Lord of the Dance," solo w/ guitar -- a great rendition. I'd never heard it before, & can't find it anywhere (here, iTunes, Amazon, lala, etc); seems it was issued only on "HMS Donovan," a UK-only album.
It was of course pulled from here; if anyone knows where to find one (or can re-post one here) I'd be really grateful. Other fans wld prob like it too.
Apologies 4 redundancy; I've posted this on other threads too...
Thanks for this! This album cover and song opened my eyes when I was a kid. Could not wait to grow up and live a magical hippie/neo Victorian life, carrying lilies and living in a fuschia tinted Beardsley illustration. Thank you for keeping a dream alive. : )
This song is so free flowing. Generally speaking, you were ultra lucky to be around in the United States or in Britain as a very young teen in 1967. That would place you in a space where you did not even have to worry about being drafted into a useless war and there was not even a fear then of catching HIV if you were out dating. It was a VERY long gliding stretch of years of no urgent fears and more creative and real sounding musicians that didn't write strictly for the dollar marks.
maybe but they were certainly taken advantage of by the record companies and many were manipulated into writing pop songs for the benefit of record sales, but one things for sure, they definitely didnt sing about being in the club or drinking champagne
ppbird0- Having a bad day today and out looking to pick random fights online? If you had such hard life back then from being so old that you ended up in Viet Nam, that really doesn't mean you have tangible proof that the rest of us (who were younger teenagers than you) shared your sad experience. I noticed you didn't even elaborate on those days from your own experience so why don't you go ahead and do that for us now and educate all of us about just your own life in the late 1960s.
He obviously WAS there. I was too. There were some bad things going on in the world , but it was a great time for growing up, and I miss the 60's, and it's music. I was 13 in 1967, and have very vivid memories of those wonderful years, I will never forget.
"STD's were huge in the 60's and 70's because of huge use of unprotected sex"
Kim.. HIV was not yet in the world picture then and note that this was my specific reference.
As far as the rest...hmm...I'm not sure about the use of the word "huge" when in comparison to the later decades. There were plenty of comercials to be mainly aware of VD in the 60's and 70s but man.. that's really nothing compared to what all came along in later decades with the newer types of STDs.
@lllwindrunner Wrong about that, the U.S. WAS drafting kids into a useless war.(Viet-Nam) No urgent fears? We grew up being told the Russians could/would use the bomb on us any day. No H.I.V. but plenty of other "social" diseases. However you WERE right about the music! It is still some of the best ever made. :-) Oh and you were definitly NOT lucky if you were born black AND down in the southland!
@ScotAbenaki *Generally speaking*. I didn't forget at all that there were some STD's around but nothing near as lethal as what we have now and I guess you were little bit older than me then because by the time me and all my classmates were of draft age, the draft had gone bye bye. Sorry to hear you had to suffer through a crazy time being black in the southland back then. Racism is stupid wicked stuff indeed but I'm still thinking the *over all* wicked of today has outranked 1967 by a long shot.
Alizarin crimson--makes me think of Bob Ross--great song btw. Glad to find it, my favorited version got nailed for copyright violation... damn you copyright laws!
The commerical was a Revlon...".Wear you love like Revlon" was the slogan .... I believe. Someone please post this commerical. It's great!! I have been looking for that commerical for years..
@tonkehar Were you love like Revlon was a tv commerical of this album cover come to life. Mind blowing commerical someone post it if you can. if you think the album cover is cool, you have to see the commerical!
This isn't the only song by Donovan featured on the Simpsons. On the episode where Homer thinks he's discovered an alien there's another who's name escapes me. I want to say Go0d Morning Starshine.
This music while popular, was also very underground at the time. There were places in middle America you just wouldn't have heard this music back then. The most creative music is always underground, never mainstream. There's still go0d stuff out there, you just need to lo0k for it. Great song.
I think most people who said they were brought here from the simpsons most likely heard this song before somewhere else. The Simpsons just somehow got them off the couch to go find it, i guess. You would have to be living in the core of the earth to not have heard this song at least once before, while living in north America.

You so obviously weren't there. hahaha

ppbird0- Having a bad day today and out looking to pick random fights online? If you had such hard life back then from being so old that you ended up in Viet Nam, that really doesn't mean you have tangible proof that the rest of us (who were younger teenagers than you) shared your sad experience. I noticed you didn't even elaborate on those days from your own experience so why don't you go ahead and do that for us now and educate all of us about just your own life in the late 1960s.
lllwindrunner 2 years ago 2
@ppbird0
He obviously WAS there. I was too. There were some bad things going on in the world , but it was a great time for growing up, and I miss the 60's, and it's music. I was 13 in 1967, and have very vivid memories of those wonderful years, I will never forget.

YES!!! I was one of whom you write.
Wonderful time to be a kid.

@lllwindrunner STD's were huge in the 60's and 70's because of huge use of unprotected sex..

@lllwindrunner alright. Thanks chief. ;^D

ScotAbenaki 1 year ago
@ScotAbenaki *Generally speaking*. I didn't forget at all that there were some STD's around but nothing near as lethal as what we have now and I guess you were little bit older than me then because by the time me and all my classmates were of draft age, the draft had gone bye bye. Sorry to hear you had to suffer through a crazy time being black in the southland back then. Racism is stupid wicked stuff indeed but I'm still thinking the *over all* wicked of today has outranked 1967 by a long shot.

Great song.
