@vorbias I have the same feeling too, but for either of them to have any chance of passing and not getting the planet pissed off there would need to be a ton of watering down and specifying what is considered copyright infringement and pirating.

Though in my honest opinion, YT does a pretty bang up job keeping it at bay. There are so many musicians/TV companies/other celebrities that tend to get shafted the most by pirating have created accounts here where you can watch content for free.

The only sites that would even be affected are sites like piratebay, sites where the sole reason is to download DVDs/CDs/content/etc without paying which obviously takes money and profit away from the people who made it.

@rklimm In the beginning, the bill was vague enough it would have easily screwed over all of the free internet sites, but at least with SOPA it really doesn't have any teeth. They made the bill originally wanting to deal with piracy, but what counts as pirating is the biggest debate. No one government can control all global sites, and with companies/artists creating accounts they have a firm hand stamping it out. Neither bills will tread water so I don't feel one way or the other about it.

Down with SOPA and PIPA in their current form. That said I believe something needs to be done to stop piracy of materials online. They need to target the pirates and the users who abuse the pirated items. They don't need to target sites just because someone posts some pirated stuff of it IF they have policy in place to combat piracy themselves. Take youtube for example, if a copyright infringement is reported then they handle it.
