you can always do what Burt Monroe did with his Worlds fastest Indian. he made him own piston molds and when he found the right design he made his own metal combo, i think i was 1 chevy, and 2 of ford. because chevy pistons back in the `30s and `40s had titanium, and ford pistons were Cast, and what you get is a relatively light weight piston that you can handle the torture of running on alcohol at 200+ mph.
@nathanmeitzler Never oil new pistons because of you do not want to saturate the rings, if you do then compression will be compromised. Use ATF not regular oil.
put them on a cloth btw if they have carbon deposits then its going to bogg the performance and how efitiont it is so dont reuse them and cleaning themwont work even after they touch the floor
@gt4mazda Holly true. In my country for one piston You will give something like 200pln, it is 70 dollars. In USA i found set of pistons with piston rings for 100dollars. This is sick :D hehe
Get the rods blasted and polised them put Forged pistons in+ get the crank and flywheel balanced+Knife edged. Sounds a lot of money but new pistons come with gudgen pins and ring set! then she'll be a racer ; D
instead of using a sand blaster you could use jome sand paper! I just got finsihed using it on my 6.5hp piston and cylinder head! Just some friendly advice!
always always always change pistons and bearings after removing from an engine if not pistons at least a new set of rings after you hone the cylinders
The only real way to answer your question is to measure them. It's simple, they are either within the measurement specs or not. Just looking at them won't give you an accurate evaluation, unless there is any visible and serious damage such as scoring or cracks from metal fatigue.. Measure them..
Hey PEOPLE. Actually I was not being sarcastic about this pistons. I take then to the machine shop and they re- round the button part of the rod, the one that connects to the crank journal. About the piston head I remove all piston pins very hard since they were stuck and take the head for sand blasting clean. Then I lubricated all the pars and re assembly them and again they start dancing and look as sexy as new. Ive been using them for 6 month and no problem.
I imagine the wrist pins were hard to remove ... they are suppose to be pressed out because the rod's wrist pin hole is slightly undersized and heated before inserting the pin. Once it cools ... the wrist pin hole contracts and locks on the wrist pin. Unlike a full floating wrist pin which can be slid in and out easily and only held in place by spiral locks or those lame wire C-clips.
Dont reuse any of this stuff. I can tell I it got hot. Look in to eagle rods with jp piston head dont forget new arp studs. Any thing worth doing is worth doing right the first time. The preformane of the car will show the difference.
get new bearings and pistin rings to be on the safe side otherwise you could or most proberly will contaminate ur oil! but there deff fine to use once cleaned and changed!
im a mechanic and take it from me buy a new set to calm your worries...you also might want to look in on some Clevite77 bearings too..dont risk it...be better safe than sorry
Borrow a parts cleaner, Change the Bearings (otherwise the oter stuff you used could contaminate the oil and change the rings, just to be on the safe side.
haha the rings arent even the problem.. the piston doesnt move at all on the rod lol.. the wrist pin bearing is probably kinda fucked lol.. they dont move at all you might be stuck at top dead center lol... id replace them if i were you
the pistons are off the motor already so i would just go with new ones

unless you are on a budget no piston/conecting rod is worth reuseing in a motor you truely care about

Why put them on the cement?? That caused damaged alone!

They would work well as Christmas tree decorations.

You could always tie a rope to them and use them as a boat anchor.
IBLOWN 1 year ago
check to see if the bore right and check to see if any of the pistons are shot and i wouldnt hurt to probably re-ring them

check 4 cracks and bad chips but if all good get em sand blasted and they'll look like new
superturkey2011 1 year ago
Is the miles reading on that engine very high?
Was the compression good before? (piston rings)
Were there any noises before you removed the pistons that made you think there is a problem with the pistons?
Was there a exessive oil consumption before? (Piston ring)
If everything was good, you may reuse them (though the better way is to do what @valleyfever@ says -measure them-).
(And please use piece of cloth on the floor next time)

just clean them up there good and put new bearings
