Oh my!! That is the most stunning interpretation of that piece I have ever heard. There is a Polish pianist Leszek Mozdzer (mostly playing jazz) but Martha seems to combine the jazzy with the classical. Truly amazing stuff!
I don't know if my love of Chopin's music is just me being biased because of the many pieces of his that I love, but I'm drawn to everything he wrote.
you know..mazurka is polish dance...and many people stop dancing and will stand and just listen chopin when he plays..and ppl how paid him to write mazurka..got very angry that chopin dont write the music where ppl can dance..and many time because of this he never got paid..because ppl will stop dancing will listen chopin playin such beautiful music

the worst version of this mazurka. superficial and, in all ways, over mannered... dont let that your little minds be dragged by the blind fanatism... argerich is a god of technique, but, in essence, very superficial
It's kind of funny how people like you who always talk about how a particular performer is superficial can rarely pinpoint what makes the particular performer superficial. Instead, words like essence, superficial, etc, get thrown around. Then please, please do speak from the superiority of your mind and tell us what makes someone superficial or un-superficial. Or perhaps even, explain to us what makes your mind so much less "little"?
Oh yeah...... when it comes to Chopin, Martha RULEZ!!! Such delightful, life-filled playing: it's a real treat to listen to her renditions of well.... pretty well anything she chooses to play!!
That, sir, is a bold statement. Everyone in the youtube viewing public is entitled to their own opinion, but it is FACT that Chopin was the superior composer/pianist.
I find that Martha Argerich is one of the few pianists that can play mazurkas convincingly. I also love her opus 59, especially some of the live recordings from the 60's.
@BertandTreb I'm not a "grandpa" !!!! I'm 30 years old and I really enjoy to listen this valious woman...!!!! maybe for you is just like the sound of a barking dog!!!!!
This is a silly little thing, but has anyone noticed that she always seems to wear that little orange-red bracelet on her right wrist when she plays? I noticed it at Disney Hall in L.A. recently. Any significance to it?
She must have bought it in San Telmo, Buenos Aires, where there is a huge artisan fair. Or someone gave it to her. It looks like a braided leather bracelet. Maybe it has some 'sentimental' value. Sometimes they are worn for good luck, too. :)
I heard her play this yesterday in Paris! It was just as beautiful as this recording. She also played the scarlatti as well. Her energy seems ceaseless!
this piece is deceptively difficult (looks easy at first sight but at the third line to the 5th the fingering of the right hand going up is just rediculous
ok actually for the first time i dont hear argerich as immaculate. she is superior but not flawless. i hear heterogeneity in the dynamical curve.

Did she add 1:45 - 1:46 herself? I can't find it in any score. It's just supposed to be played the same as always in those.
Bhailte 2 years ago
argerich uses the 'paderewski' edition, i have the urtext one and its not in there, its the same as the earlier bars. :)

did you know Chopin created short pieces like this because he was really shy. all and all still wonderful!

Clear like a bell. But cold

Cold? Ha. Martha is never cold. Ever. Her passion even in these small Mazurkas is palpable. This is as far away from cold as one could get.

Fantastic .She sounds younger in spirit than in the older recordings even those from the Chopin competiton.
More dance and exuberance now.
What a temperament!
