  • Oh my!! That is the most stunning interpretation of that piece I have ever heard. There is a Polish pianist Leszek Mozdzer (mostly playing jazz) but Martha seems to combine the jazzy with the classical. Truly amazing stuff!

  • She plays it perfectly. It's... i don't know good words. It's just so beautiful and deep. Makes me cry..

  • I don't know if my love of Chopin's music is just me being biased because of the many pieces of his that I love, but I'm drawn to everything he wrote.

  • i like her hair :)

  • Martha cold?? In fact I know her very well...And she has a wonderful energie and spirit. She is ALIVE and not cold as some...

  • This is okay but I wish the Solomon Cutner version didn't disappear.

  • you know..mazurka is polish dance...and many people stop dancing and will stand and just listen chopin when he plays..and ppl how paid him to write mazurka..got very angry that chopin dont write the music where ppl can dance..and many time because of this he never got paid..because ppl will stop dancing will listen chopin playin such beautiful music

  • Passion, energy, talent, geniality, charisma, personality, beauty, everything on the top:her name is Martha Argerich, thank you Martha!

  • Siempre es la mejor y con Chopin no digamos.-Juan

  • I d love to be at concerto where she plays an encore

  • Just fabulous and so is Maryla Jonas playing of this

  • Ms. Argerich does very few public performances now. I would love to watch her perform.

  • This is not a good version. Martha can really do so much better!

  • the worst version of this mazurka. superficial and, in all ways, over mannered... dont let that your little minds be dragged by the blind fanatism... argerich is a god of technique, but, in essence, very superficial

  • @rolipoli

It's kind of funny how people like you who always talk about how a particular performer is superficial can rarely pinpoint what makes the particular performer superficial. Instead, words like essence, superficial, etc, get thrown around. Then please, please do speak from the superiority of your mind and tell us what makes someone superficial or un-superficial. Or perhaps even, explain to us what makes your mind so much less "little"?

  • that what makes your mind so much little without the less. just genetics. :)

  • @rolipoli

lol, then I hope you really have done something nice that proves your genetic superiority, Mr. Eugenicist

  • just go to my channel

  • are you having an absolute joke, id LOVE to see you play this better!!!!

  • Angelic is the exact word.

  • Nobody better.....she is an angel!

  • Not surprising this godlike performance has 48,006 views.

I'm responsible for about 20,000 of them x

  • hahaah, i'm responsible for another 20,000 of them ;-)

  • Oh yeah...... when it comes to Chopin, Martha RULEZ!!! Such delightful, life-filled playing: it's a real treat to listen to her renditions of well.... pretty well anything she chooses to play!!

  • OH! that is a polish MAZUREK! love it!

  • Did she add 1:45 - 1:46 herself? I can't find it in any score. It's just supposed to be played the same as always in those.

  • argerich uses the 'paderewski' edition, i have the urtext one and its not in there, its the same as the earlier bars. :)

  • did you know Chopin created short pieces like this because he was really shy. all and all still wonderful!

  • People need to realize that just because they disagree with an opinion doesn't mean that it's spam.

  • i prefer Schumann to Chopin

  • Yeah, well, I don't. Funny situation, won't you agree?

  • That, sir, is a bold statement. Everyone in the youtube viewing public is entitled to their own opinion, but it is FACT that Chopin was the superior composer/pianist.

  • Lol woman or man the music do not have sex neither the piano!

  • shes one of the best pianists alive today, and shes a woman! few and far between, not being, sexist!

  • crystal-clear notes. astounding, bell-sounding accents.

  • Clear like a bell. But cold

  • Cold? Ha. Martha is never cold. Ever. Her passion even in these small Mazurkas is palpable. This is as far away from cold as one could get.

  • Clear like a bell. Good Chopin.

  • she performed this encore in dublin after prokofiev 3

  • yeah it was a wonderful concert

  • just so beautiful!!

  • It is a little overexaggerated, otherwise very beautifuful.

  • So incredibly exaggerated and overwrought. Listen to Rubinstein in this.

  • Fantastic .She sounds younger in spirit than in the older recordings even those from the Chopin competiton.

    More dance and exuberance now.

    What a temperament!

  • @dereczynski this is true, the playing is free and focused on this track, more so than the old stuff maybe

  • gorgeous lady at any age;

  • i have to say I prefer argerich when she is older (from what I have heard). I really love this interpretation,.

  • I find that Martha Argerich is one of the few pianists that can play mazurkas convincingly. I also love her opus 59, especially some of the live recordings from the 60's.

  • the worst version of this mazurka

  • Agreed. Hard and cold. Sounds like Satie, not like Chopin.

  • She played this in London last week Monday, after an all Prokofiev programme. It sounded so sweet and simple.

  • all the grandpas watching this are defintley getting quite a sensation

  • @BertandTreb I'm not a "grandpa" !!!! I'm 30 years old and I really enjoy to listen this valious woman...!!!! maybe for you is just like the sound of a barking dog!!!!!

  • This is a silly little thing, but has anyone noticed that she always seems to wear that little orange-red bracelet on her right wrist when she plays? I noticed it at Disney Hall in L.A. recently. Any significance to it?

  • yes, I also wonder what for it is

  • She must have bought it in San Telmo, Buenos Aires, where there is a huge artisan fair. Or someone gave it to her. It looks like a braided leather bracelet. Maybe it has some 'sentimental' value. Sometimes they are worn for good luck, too. :)

  • wowowwowowowoowowowo Marthaaaa:))))

  • Am i the only one who hears mouse clicks :D

  • Lol! Eh... no, no... that's the... piano...

    :-)

  • I heard her play this yesterday in Paris! It was just as beautiful as this recording. She also played the scarlatti as well. Her energy seems ceaseless!

  • nice report :) thank you!

  • Absolutely wonderful - many thanks..!

  • Brava, Donna Bella

  • Molto brava

  • MERAVIGLIOSA MARTHA!!!! 5*****

  • Spectacular!

  • Argee is still playing as young as ever. This Mazurka tells you how young she really is.

  • Argerich is getting sooo old :(

  • Thank you so much for posting this!

    Agerich is always awesome!

  • Just love you, Martha!

  • this piece is deceptively difficult (looks easy at first sight but at the third line to the 5th the fingering of the right hand going up is just rediculous

ok actually for the first time i dont hear argerich as immaculate. she is superior but not flawless. i hear heterogeneity in the dynamical curve.

  • bravo. the word is "special"

  • Immortal.Sublime.

  • Oh My God she's fantastic

  • Legendary

  • 9/02/2009

  • this was 4 days ago... How did you get it? Its great that she's still kickin'!

  • wooww 4 days ago!! and amazing too!! it just happens to be what im practicing (all 51 mazurkas and all the waltzes)

    argerich is awesome

  • Brilliance!
