g'day fellas - not bad skeldz - the area you ride is very similar to ours - watagon mountains newcastle australia - i ride an 08 530 - i love it - one criticism though compared to other bikes ive owned - xr650 - wr450 - xt600 tenere - its an absolute shocker at hard hill climbs - seems too racey in critical steep sections - wot do ya think? by the way i know it was wet but in our neck of the woods - you boys would get lost in our ruts - the suspension handles the power - use it .

I have ridden the Honda 250 XR and it is plenty power for the rough stuff. Is the 530 EXC scary to ride in the trails? You seem to do quite well out there and your control seems pretty even on the throttle. Would this be an easy transition for me? I'm 6'1" and have been eyeing this bike for a year now. What would be your recommendations for this bike, or for that matter... other rides? Cheers
@Aonexia Mate a XR250 is an tank it weighs a ton a 530 is a dream to ride in my opion it is nimble but it has the power there on tap u can ride it like grand ma or like an obslute idiot (my personel prefrance) test ride one if u can.
Are the 530exc's really street legal right out of the box like they say they are? I haven't decided if I'm going to go full dirt bike or half and half like this bike. I'm seriously considering the 300 xc-w as well.
@Honda2000ninja Yes they really are street legal. It's a 100% dirt bike, they only difference between it and the 300 XC-W is the difference between any 4 and 2 stroke bike. The 530 is better for wide open spaces, but it can be made to go through the snot if you want to. It's probably just not the easiest tool for that job.
You do have to do a jet kit and removal of smog equipment to make the EXC like the XC-W, as well as change sprockets, but other than that they are identical.
@canktm08 I did the Rocky Mt. Hare Scramble last year, that is the only thing I have done with NETRA or organized riding/racing at all for that matter. Probably do more this year.
@SkeldZ06 The Rocky Mt. hare scramble would be a handfull i imagine on that bike..i race an 08' ktm xc-w..that hare scramble is one of the tougher ones on the schedule. Have done the rocky enduro 4 times.the turkey runs are a blast too!!..see you out there..
@Honda2000ninja There also alot better at the on/off road ridiblity then the honda/suzuki variants. My 2005 drz400 was screaming at 50 mph top speed in 5th; but could only troll at 11mph in first before stalling. 11mph is a bit too high for technical stuff... The half and halfs are great for reaching trails that are otherwise un-reachable due to roads and cops. :)

Hey nice bike, KTM is a very good bike. I live in Maine to. I ride a Yamaha TTR 125, I ride on the Hollis trails where the Poland Spring bottling company is, I was riding yesterday and today very wet and slippery. Where do you ride in Maine?
Thanks! This is in Newburgh, just outside Bangor. I ride here some since I can just ride the back to this area from my house. I do some riding "downeast" also around the Studmill Rd. All woods and logging roads out there, you can really cover some ground. Not really any single track though. What are the Hollis trails like and would I be able to ride them or are they "top secret"?
Well the Hollis trails are owned by Hollis Freewheelers ATV Club, and the trails are used a lot by four wheelers and dirt bikes, they are really fun to ride, I ride them everyday, but a lot of people ride them so they're not top secret. The trail goes to an Army Base which is cool but its just a bunch of fields, and the trail goes to a gas station which a lot of four wheelers go to. The trails go for miles and miles to different towns and pole lines. I discovered the trails on my own.
I thought about getting a 450 but got the 250 XCFW. I'm glad I did, i find it has plenty of power for the trails and it doesn't wear me out. It feels more nimble and is not that much lighter but feels way lighter.
I have a Harley I ride on the road, so I don't need it for that.
