i work as a scrub technician and we typically do several of these a week. however, most of our docs do it laproscopically. there is a pretty high infection bc there is a ton of bacteria that lives in the colon and when the colon is cut open, all that junk oozes into the abdominal cavity. but the dr should be thrown under the jail for acting the way he did towards you. part of being a true dr is being able to admit and fix a mistake when its made. they are human to and will make mistakes but damn
That sucks what the doctor did. You should have been advised differently from the beginning. 1st off, this is hardly a simple surgery. FAR from it. My doc warned of potential problems. They found that I had a twisted colon and LOTS of infection. I lost 17" of colon. I have a way bigger scar than that and the doc said he ended up with both hands in me instead of all orthroscopic. The staples coming out was the worst pain ever. Glad you survived brother!
I have to say a colectomy is not a simple surgery I have had a partial colectomy and a full colectomy, it is the worst pain I have ever felt, I had a c-section and that was nothing compared to my colectomy's your DR behaved so badly, I hope you sued!!! I only ended up with my ileostomy because the drs screwed up and left me with C.Dif for 6 months DRs have a lot to answer too if you ask me!!!!
