An artist wants to take that song and bond it to his or her audience. Once you take the stage you can't be the record you are in an intimate setting with your fans you should be making love to your fans with your song. It should never be a moment of recounting what you did in the studio. The best performances have come from artists bond witht their fans.

If you listen to Billie Holiday, she never sings the same song the same way. If you don't believe check out her songs and you will see that she sings a different version of the same song everytime. Just as you would never say the word "no" exactly the same way every time. It depends on the situation and context. She sings songs differently because it is a different moment in time, a different situation. :)
