It must be great to be able to write music and lyrics. I think Jason does both.I can write music but I feel like it has been a 100 years trying to find a co-writer to write pop hits. I think it is good to keep your day job, and finish college, and write music. Stay away from the cat food unless you like purina cat chow..that is my favorite LOL I guess better than dog food!
Here is another approach/plan to consider: How about spending a few years developing yourself in a good paying day job, do that for 10 years earning good money. Do a job that allows freedom in the evenings, (and during the day if your lucky) to develop your music. You won't have to eat cat food, you can afford to build up a nice home studio with quality gear while your learning song writing and production techniques. When you have some quality songs down, join taxi and start your music career.
Jason Blume... Listening to him speak is like a spiritual experience, BUT THEN I MET THE AUTHOR!!!...
I wanted to sing him a verse / chorus of my song, and he was so unconcerned, unspeakably unloving human being!! He couldn't hae cared less about me as a person and dismissed me on two occasions @ the Rally...
Maybe it's because I have noting to offer him, hence, I am not a part of his ivory tower "clique" of friends...
jeez cat food is expensive! My cat is making me go broke. He won't stop eating. Anyways, wouldn't ramen or something be cheaper? You can find cheap human food, it's not that hard.
'making it' has a lot to do with your beliefs and personal energy as much as it does 'talent.' I mean, look at some of the stuff that's out there!! also, the longer a person writes, the more they improve. TAXI is a fab organisation and a great resource for songwriters. buy in!! and no, I don't work for TAXI
not just knowledge but musical talent too.. the sound is everything, people keep overlooking that.. and connections of course.. b/c there is so much talent already out there.. and having something original, offering something a bit different..
Just saw this...very inspiring. Yes, it took Jason Blume 11 years, and who knows how many portions of cat food.. But he is also one of the most successful writers today. If you want to be as successful as Jason Blume maybe it will take you 11 years, but personally I'd be happy being a 10th (or even less) as successful as him...and chances are that can be done in a lot less time.
I understand that they're trying to promote a work ethic and it takes time but this video really is not a good example of what their trying to say, 11 1/2 years full time before making regular money and then another 5 years for decent money, investing that amount of time just plays to a law of averages, just putting in one year is too short but 11 1/2 is too long, it's more of a horror story, eating cat food? or did this guy just suck that bad to start and they're saying anybody can do it?
"good writing starts with here" ?, not sure that I'm actually catching your meaning, good writing starts with writing, just doing it, editing can make it better ;)
I'm going to try to figure out which hits Jason did. I agree, it's a horror story. Sylvester Stallone's story is kind of similar, but there's a big leap in there with Rocky. Music has got to be the hardest business on Earth to crack, because everybody and their mother is a musician and/or a songwriter.
I´ve read all your books and they are great. I´m from Mexico and I´ve mostly written songs in Spanish, but I just started with songs in English. You really
