@naganokumas very astute observation.thanks, its a bit of an acquired taste but once you get into the spirit of the music, totally unique and addictive
My parents owned sweethearts back in the day and to see the boys coming down was and always will be one of my fondest memories ever. Sweethearts was across the road from Macdonalds and big John the bikie the leader of the pack.... Ahhh the cross and the memories... Thanks Jimmy
At first I was disappointed this was not one of the non-live MVs.. but as soon as Ian started playing.. and Jimmy started singing.. I was glad this video was posted.. they were as good live as they were in the studio.. not many bands like that any more..
...and there was the time we were 3am chilling with a couple of friends who worked the street, (Sweethearts was a safe haven for working girls to take a break and for us musos who were wired after gigs), and we commented how much the bloke on his own at the back looked like Bowie. Next day David Bowie was quoted in the newspaper saying how he'd enjoyed coffee and people watching at a little joint called Sweethearts. Damn! Missed a chance there.
@lookatmepleasesir no it was across the road i,m 5 years older than Jimmy B arnes & yes it was the go & great song but he or any other muso was never there
What a great song, I remember sitting in Sweethearts watching the Kings X passing passing parade the guys spruiking over the road at The Pink Pussycat ,while we sat there in the window eating poached eggs on Toast.and soaking up coffee..thanks for this
Saw a herion dealer get busted at Sweethearts in the 80s.... saw the cops take money ... saw the dealer walk away... Newspaper next day drug bust in the Cross ... curious!?! Chook Fowler et al. ... maybe?
Saw a herion dealer get busted at Sweethearts in the 80s.... saw the cops take money ... saw the dealer walk away... Newspaper next day big drug bust at Sweethearts ... curious!?! Chook Fowler et al. ... maybe?
Oh man, I remember coming out of The Manzil Room 6:00am, shielding my eyes from the urrrk 'brightness'... it was only a short walk up to Sweethearts, straight opposite from 'Les Girls'. Aaaahh hot chocolate and cinnamon toast cleansed the palate, hehe... felt like doing it all again then. Mind you, I was actually back where I started 10hrs earlier... eating the other Sweethearts 'special'... Hot Bananas and Ice cream... lol
If there had been the Internet in the Early 80s Cold Chisel would have been one of the biggest bands in the World. Keep up the good work nzoz with your videos
@nzoz1979 As I have said before (maybe a year or so ago) need to nominate you for the Order Of Australia, or Australian of the Year! I grew up in the 90s in Hong Kong to expat parents who loved Chisels despite the pom, local and yank neighbors. These songs remind me of summers in a beauty of a place call the New Territories in Hong Kong. I remember going to some wanker international school in Dads car and he would have chisels blaring at full bore and hell everyone knew who it was! Love it!
What I'd give to see them like this again.. Not with the modern sound like an angle grinder Barnsey. nor with his kids... Just Chisel.
Another song from round when i was leaving school... No plans for life, just take it as it comes, school is nearly over, enjoy life, make the most of it... Shame we never really knew what life and the future had in store for us... ... or music.
Thanks NZOZ, another winner.. Hook up for a coffee sometime.
well hell i remember sweetwaters.....i think we did two and two concerts at mainstreet in auckland...the concerts b;y the river were best,,,,go Dave Stone x
Sweethearts was a restuarant in Darlinghurst Rd, Kings X near where the boys recorded. My grandfather owned the store next door. The guys often ate there early in their careers
My favourite Chisel song...but is the toast round or brown? I thought it was brown but he sounds like he sings round on this vid.
I am sure his album in about 1988 was number one..."too much aint enough love" thats all you ever heard either on tv, radio or at parties...shame hes gone a bit gay now though...
Blocking is something new? Never knew it could be done. Anyway, great song and thanks for uploading all this stuff for Aussies like me who are very far from home. Best regards to you Nzoz for all the work you've being doing for the community.

He has been on other Cold Chisel videos abusing the people who have made positive comments. An opinion only goes so far before it becomes abuse. He deserves what he gets.
maybe you could join him... rights to opinions have also a right to rebuttle... chisel as an australian icon deserve the max respect and anyone who thinks diff is on the wrong page... this is a chisel song.. for chisel fans... other agendas dont rate.
MrDurdan is a complete tool, i think he is trying to deal with the homosexual feelings and doesnt want to admit it. So he has to abuse people who make positive comments about Cold Chisel, Cold Chisel are the best!!!!!!! I urge everyone to give Durdan shit, bombard him with comments and messages. Hes a cocksucker.

Nothing like Joe Cocker I am sorry. You cannot compare him with soul singers. Otis redding, Wilsen Picket, Teddy Pendagrass, Percy Sledge, Marvin Gaye and even Andrew String. You cannot compare. If you do then you are showing total disrespect to the greats because Barnsy is not even close to them.
I agree he has a powerful voice.. But i do know that it is quite damaged.. Not that great i can tell ya.. I think he has done well for himself and he is popular for a reason but I think if you are going to listen to a singer, John Farnham has the voice hands down without a doubt. You cant argue a point like that. John has been the most successful male singer of our time. Even Jimmy Barnes will tell you that.
John farnham himself said that one of the peaks of his life was singing when the war is over with jimmy (jimmy sung the part he normally does). he (farnham) said he got a bigger treat out of it than the crowd would have... (and look at JB now - 9 solo no. 1 albums? plus... 4 or 5 with chisel?
better question... which of his albums DIDNT hit number 1... (love and fear and psyclone didnt hit number 1 i think... not many more than that though)
uhhh... Dickhead... at many points Jimmy Barnes is a soul singer... (look at his solo albums!) I'd easier to compare them and Jimmy than Elvis and MJ...
And go ask Joe cocker himself (if you get the chance), or more possible for scum like you, listen to the song GUILTY - a duet with Jimmy and Joe cocker... (on Flesh and Wood)
and about wilson pickett, try: land of 1000 dances, i found a love. Otis Redding - respect and also to love somebody... (otis didnt record as he died) Jimmy covered these bloody well as the absolute undisputed aussie music legend he is! (response to micko0101)
All time favorite Chisel song. This song was how I was introduced to the band's music when I lived in Melbourne back in the late 80's. Absolutely ACE!!!!
If that question is refering to me then i will tell you that I love Ian Moss. He should have been the lead singer of this band from the start. He can actually sing. Please dont tell me that Barnes can sing, Please. Have you even heard his latest stuff. It is so bad. He claims he has two sets of vocal chords or whatever. look I remember when he use to coff up blood after gigs. How can that be healthy for you. Rock singer, screamer whatever. You should never have to coff up blood after a gig
he only coughed up blood after A gig (or 2) around the last stand time because he had a throat infection of some description... the way he screams (as you micko0101 says... the good way), he warms up properly, he has the range, he has FULL control over his voice... without a doubt he CAN SING
Not a screamer but a real from the heart and soul rock singer. Think John Fogerty or Joe Cocker. One of the best ever. Chisel's efforts at reggae were not the best but Sweethearts was kinda nice ;-)
And I do know what I am talking about because I have been a very successful Vocal coach for 25 years. He is a screamer, A good screamer but not a good singer. A singer sings with smoothness in the voice and no vocal strain caused by belching it out.
bro listen to rosaline 4 walls ita bro he can sing but his aggro comes from wwere he came from, dont tell me bon cant sing, its all about attitude, just ask jimi
@micko0101 . Yeah, well the old saying is appropriate here. those who can, do. those who can't, teach. check your facts, too. based purely on record sales, not vocal coach opinion, barnesy is the most successful australian male artist of all time. farnham is not even close.
Sweethearts, French's, Manzil Room, Paradise jazz Club, Les Girls, Bourbon and Beefsteak, Piccolo cafe, The Baron, the street gals....many a sleepless night could be had in the ol' days of the Cross! Sadly, it aint got the same 'feel' as it use to. Still, as 'Ralph' sang in that ol' tune of his: i wish time stopped still ten yrs ago(now we'd say 20!)i'm slowly realising life is always changin'!( Best yrs Of Your Life- Richard Clapton).
I had breakfast at sweethearts in the cross in 1990 just after I joined the navy from alice springs Ian moss' home town ,it wasnt lost on me even tough I was para at 7.30am not 6.00

Leave it to the ANZACs to get punk-reggae/reggae-punk just right.
There's a lot to be gleaned from apprections from the antipodes.
They watch from afar. (And, per capita have sacrificed more than any in war and shit).
Enjoy what they like and like to make of things from elsewhere.
Don't be surprised if their attitude becomes popular globally
You have been warned.

he only coughed up blood after A gig (or 2) around the last stand time because he had a throat infection of some description... the way he screams (as you micko0101 says... the good way), he warms up properly, he has the range, he has FULL control over his voice... without a doubt he CAN SING
