  • @piczar41 thanks a lot. im already playing this piece but not this good though, and not as fast.. im also playing souvenirs of andalousie- really really nice! now id like to play a not so hard piece like the fugue in g minor 578 by bach, it has a different appeal. thanks again for the imslp.org suggestion. you are my new best friend. :-) :-) hahaha

  • My favorite piano composer, and he's so unknown, probably because he was a mid 19th century American. His music is way ahead of the 1800's--very modern sounding. Ms. Licad is excellent.

  • could somebody please send me this sheet music?!

  • @marcoyuan012 You can find the sheet music to Manchega, Op. 38, at imslp.org (browse composers and look for Gottschalk). It's also in most print volumes of Gottschalk's music.

  • What another crisp inspiring performance - I listened to this piece by Ms. Licad repeatedly -- thanks

  • NICE HAIR!!! It seems like she was murmuring to herself "pup...param...param..param..pup...param...param" haha as if she was "singing or humming" the beat of her piece.... IT'S SO LIVELY!!!

  • wow :) bravo Cecile!

  • Cecil is Cecil...she need not to prove her self...she already made a mark in this world...just enjoy and be thankful that she grace us this God given talent for us to enjoy and love.

  • yeah, it was ok I GUESS

i see what you were going for

  • I enjoyed this performance. She has the affinity for Gottschalk's music.

  • Your recording of Louis Moreau Gottschalk's piano music ROCKS.

  • SPRIGHTLY, PERKY and DANCEABLE.

So refreshing and delightful to listen to all the way.

Cecile Licad's playing reminds me of Vladimir Horowitz.

  • "Cecile Licad is a pianist of high spirits and showy virtuosity." {Arthur Kaptainis, The Gazette (Canada), September 24, 1997}

    "Cecile Licad is a polished, clean-fingered pianist with instant audience appeal." {Henahan Donal, New York Times, December 9, 1983}

  • I like it how she dances in her seat. :) Makes it more fun to watch and listen to.

  • Looks like she's chewing on it an' all lol :-D

  • perfect tempo... brilliant!

  • This piece really works for her. Just the right amount of bravura and humor.

  • Louis Moreau Gottschalk's piano works incorporated Carribean rhythms and melodic styles. Though Gottschalk's music is already flashy, Miss Cecile Licad played it with dazzling, thrilling, engaging and extra-spectacular enthusiasm.

  • She plays it too fast.

  • Cecile Licad really has the ability to capture an audience with breathtaking artistry at the piano.

  • I feel like i'm at a carnival. She made this piece her own which I really like :D

  • From an article about Cecile Licad: "She reveals yet another secret to her unique approaches: "I don't listen to recordings. If I'm learning something, I learn it from scratch. I'd rather know the music from the notes."

  • I have been watching this video repeatedly here in Toronto and until now I don't get tired listening to her interpretation. I wanna buy her album on this and would like to see also if she has an all-Buencamino album. Can somebody help me where to buy these recordings?

  • brava!

  • Amazing ö

  • I am amazed. Today, is the first I have ever heard of Ms. Licad. Her music of this piece is flawless. I am a "mega" fan of Louis Moreau Gottschalk and true in previous messages Gottschalk is underappreciated and its hard to find musicians these days that quote great about him. In my opinion totally. This was performance was wonderful. Could some be of help in finding recordings of this pianist?

  • I don't always agree with Licad's interpretations, but her technique is almost always flawless.

  • Beautifully played! Brava! TY.

  • Wonderful performance, I have her Gottshalk album, it's weird because she usually plays the Latin American pieces poorly but she's awesome at his his spanish pieces such as this one.

  • both gottschalk and licad are underappreciated, imo.

licad studied with rudy serkin, as did ruth laredo, another underappreciated great, r.i.p.

  • Beautiful ! Great Gottschalk ! Not enough heard, these days. Thank you !

  • damn, this is quick. some fairly unusual liberties taken with tempos, ala Glenn Gould, but still most impressive.

  • sargea1-But still most impressive? Do you find so much fault with Gould-one of the greats of the twentieth century? Could said liberties not have actually improved the performance? Bravo/brava Gould and Licad!

  • she doesn't play it fast enough :(

  • ..bEcauSe if it is fast enough, it would be very hard to understand...duh?

  • It's amusing how many pianists mutter to themselves in time with the music

  • I love the music and the pianist is pretty cool, too ;^]

  • STAGGERING! I have not heard her/of her in years! Thank you so much for posting this.

  • OMG, a first-rate, second-to-none pianist!

  • nice piece very well played by an excellent Filipino pianist.

  • Very well executed!!! Mabuhay ang Pinoy!!!
