Reducing the world's population would require a mind-meld (a means of communicating by thoughts, and not by words). No matter how much we preach to the masses, there is no way we can get through to them. Ignorance begets more ignorance, it is self perpetuating. We have to give up and let the world go to hell. Most of these problems are caused by the way humans have used industrial civilization, not by the number of humans. With a natural non-civilization lifestyle, population would be self-regulating, like it is with wolves and earthworms. The fact that USA has a smaller population consuming the largest amount of resources shows that consumption could even increase while overall population decreases. Imagine 90% fewer Africans, consuming 90% more resources. Lifestyle (Civilization) is the problem.

Not to mentioned the consumption of meat and the waste associated with delivering and producing of meat while wasting oil, water and arable land to grow stock and feed it grain that could feed much more people.
@TehMorbidAtheist Poor country doesn't = a natural lifestyle, though. I personally prefer no meat, but I will eat animals that were raised naturally by my family. Hunting a sustainable amount of wild animals, as most non-civilized peoples do, does not cause those problems, either. Growing plant foods through mono-cropping is even more destructive. With all foods there needs to be a natural relationship between the consumed and consumer.

The amount of energy required to produce grain and plant food is minuscule to the amount of energy, oil, water and time not to mentioned the amount of suffering that is wasted on growing meat. It's not destructible to soil or the environment.
