well, its game week between Michigan and Illinois! The Wolverines ahve won 6 in a row over the Fighting Illini, and the last two times they've played at the Big House, Michigan has won in blowout fashion (45-20 in 2001 and 56-14 in 2003). History is on Michigans side, but on the other hand, the Wolverines are only 2-2, and thier offense looks like shit, while Illinoi;s offense has been explosive all season long. I hope Michiganc an keep it clsoe this Saturday.
I never said Michigan would win. I called a 56-28 illini win, and they won 45-20. I was close in my prediction (gonig into the season, i predicted Michigan to ebat Illinois, but after the 1-2 start, i changed that pic in a hurry, not to mention all my other pics)
Like i said. Going into the season, i had Michigan winning by 10 points, but i cahnged my mind once the Wolverines started 1-2. I picked a 56-28 illinois win gonig into this game. I'll offer you proof if you want me to
I'd take Rashard over Mike Hart, I'd take Juice EASILY over Chad, and honestly I'd take Illinois Defense over Michigan offense. but in all fairness from an Illinois fan to michigan fan, u guys did play hell of a game honestly.
I'll grant you Mendenhall, but the QB depends on what offense you're trying to run. In a run-based spread, obviously Juice is better. But in any offense that expects to throw the ball downfield, Henne is by far the better bet.
@parkinggod yeah man I'm Frank056 in a different account. lol i cant believe i said that shit about Juice over Henne. I'd definitely take Henne over Juice though
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHA". Hell yeah I'd take Juice over Henne. Our defense is a spread offense, where the QB needs to be mobile, and last time I checked Henne didn't have over 300 yards rushing last year. And Juice can launch the ball, may not be to accurate but, a buddy of my cousins is an Illini f-ball manager, and he said Juice got on 1 knee and threw it over 60 yards, which if you had any football experience you'd know it's not easy. And you obviously don't know college offense's opposed to others.
In terms of pure QB, Juice can't hold Henne's jock. Who gives a shit if Juice can throw it 60 yards from one knee? How many times is he ever going to throw it from one knee? Exactly, never. He's got a great arm and he's a terrific athlete, but he's not half as good a QB as Henne is. Juice was almost benched this year for not performing well. He's completed 48% of his career passes. Yes, I know the difference between a spread and a pro style, but in terms of pure QB, it's Henne hands down.
Apparently you don't the "Spread Offense" sends 4-5 receivers out at 1 time. And yeah you just sank your case, I only said that Juice has a great arm, and throwing 60 from 1 knee proves that, you admitted by saying "He's got a great arm". AND also where did you read or hear about him getting benched? Eddie McGee will never start as long as Juice is there Juice can deal with pressure can pass/run and lead a losing streak Illini to the ROSE BOWL. So I assume your a Michigan fan, we have Juice-Benn
Oh the same Spread Offense that we used to score 41 on Florida? That one? The only time we used one, and Henne shredded them. Great, Juice has a great arm, what good is it if he can only complete 48% of his career passes. Ryan Mallett can allegedly throw it 85 or so yards, and he completed 43% of his passes. Arm strength isn't shit without accuracy. OMG you have Juice-Benn? How'd that work out against Michigan last year? ***Looks up*** Oh whoops.
Jesus, one Rose Bowl that they were only picked because of officials wanting the traditional Pac-10/Big 10 matchup and all of a sudden Illinois fans think that the Illini are the greatest thing ever. Do it consistently and I'll be impressed. Michigan went 9-4 and the fans were pissed. Illinois goes 9-4 and you're ready to enshrine Zook in the Hall of Fame.
Let me add this: although I definitely think we would ahve lost if we played them them, we should ahve been playing USC in the Rose Bowl instead of Illinois. The Illini, may ahve had a better record then us, but we beat them head on, and we both finished 6-2 in Big ten play. Head to ehad should matter more then overall record when it coems to a tie breaker like this
Man stop basing stuff off stats. Ask anyone and they will tell you that stats don't mean shit. If I give the ball to my running back every play he'll get more yards. If your boyfriend Henne passes more he'll complete more. And how the fuck can you say arm-power doesn't matter? If I'm not mistaken to be a QB you need a good throwing arm, am I wrong? And in the REAL spread offense, it's options, and PA's alls your Wolves did was pass. So still, Juice is the man
not true. Mike Hart had 29 carries for 132 yards and 2 TD's, and Mario Manningham had 7 carries for 53 yards.
I'll give you this though: Juice Williams is a better QB then Henne, and he's certainly better at running the spread. Michigan probably goes undefeated next season if Juice Williams was our QB
I really didn't know Mike Hart got 2 TD's I remember the one on the Goaline. But I was to excited for the Illini's rose bowl, which by the way wasn't exactly the best season ender lmao.
your an idiot. juice williams isn't half the quarterback chad henne is. although now that we are running the spread i would not mind seeing him in the maize and blue
Whatever dude. I'm done with you. You don't know college football. It's like arguing with a 2 year old.
And BTW, yeah if he throws more passes, he'll complete more passes. And yeah that averages out, if you didn't notice, Illinois runs it all the time. Try playing football, and if you say "oh i do" i don't believe you, you sound like a wuss
Clearly we're not getting anywhere with this, statistics be damned. Michigan beat Illinois, I'm happy about that. It's actually a good thing Illinois is good right now, the Big 10 needs good teams. I still firmly believe that Henne is a significantly better QB, but in an offense where he's asked to run, would suck worse than Notre Dame's offensive line. The same could be said about Juice in a pro offense, so apples and oranges.
Your completely right. Sorry I took personal shots, lol and yeah alls that really matetrs is that Michigan took it for you guys I guess haha. I'm not looking forward to this year though, Illinois has too many gaps to fill, specifically on Defense.
Juice needs a little more experience before he can be counted as good as Henne was. Henne in my opinion, is going to be one hell of a pro QB. I'll give you Mendenhall.
Yeah I know Juice needs experience. I told "parkinggod" that their really two different QB's with different offenses. Like I think Juice is better with College options and those plays, but yes Henne is better staying under center, dropping back staying in the pocket and throwing plays.
It pisses me off when Ohio State gets blown out in the national championship games, that makes everybody else in the Big 10 terrible! If I'm not mistaken, didn't Michigan beat Florida? I dunno I'm just checkin. Maybe by a score of, hmmm, 41-35! I can't quite remember!!!!!
IMO, this was Michigan's biggest Big Ten win. By upsetting a great Illinois team, they gave themselves the confidence to continue on enough to make it to the Capital One Bowl to beat an overrated, but nonetheless talented, Florida team. The game might be a little different in 2008, though. Even though it's played in Ann Arbor, everything looks good for Illinois in 2008. I see their biggest road wins being over Penn State and Michigan.
you think Illinois is going to win at THE BIG HOUSE? Everyone thinks that Michigan all of the sudden doesn't have talent because the new coach is in. You will be surprised.
I think Illinois is going to surprise everyone in 2008. I predict them to win the Big 10, and it could very well happen if they can win in Happy Valley and Ann Arbor.
I actually don't expect Michigan to completely implode like many do, I predict a 7-5 or 8-4 season for Michigan, with a 9-3 season as a possibility, but I don't see the Wolverines being like the 2007 Irish. I do think RichRod will have a tough time working with Lloyd Carr's players, though, since they don't fit his system.
Illinois is NOT going to win the Big Ten. They are a good team, and I expected them to win 8 or 9 games in 2007. However, they now lose a great runningback in Rashard Mendenhall, and a great linebacker in Jay Leman. They haven't beaten Michigan this mellenium, and the Wolverines clearly own juice Williams. Michigan will beat them by 7-10 points again in 2008.
I totally agree. RR already HAS "his players." He has a wealth of talent that he never had at West Virginia. He was taking no name 2 star prospects like Chris Henry, Pacman Jones, Pat White, and Steve Slaton and turning them into superstars. I can only imagine what he's going to do with all the 4 and 5 star talent he has at Michigan.
First of all, you are delusional. The Illini will not win the Big 10. I am a Michigan fan but even I know that OSU is going to win. Secondly, how was this an upset. Michigan was ranked higher and let me remind you that Michigan and ILL finished with the same record and Michigan had the head to head over the Illini so they actually finished second in the Big Ten.
The Illini finished with a better overall record, with their only OOC loss being to Missouri who was ranked #1 at one point. The Illini were one of four 9-win teams in the Big 10 last year.
I think that Ohio State will be in for a rude awakening next year. They'll lose at Illinois and likely to Penn State. Illinois will likely lose only one game, probably Wisconsin. It will be a road loss. Ohio State will finish second, and Penn State will finish third. Wisky and Michigan should finish 4th.
"The Illini finished with a better overall record"
Wrong. Both Illinois and Michigan finished 9-4 overall in 2007. I still don't understand why the illini were in the Rose Bowl while we were in the Capital One Bowl. Both of us finished 6-2 in Big Ten play, and we beat Illinois head on. We should have been in the Rose Bowl last season.
I meant in the regular season. Illinois was 9-3 and Michigan was 8-4. I'm not sure either why Michigan and Illinois were given their respective bowls if what you said is true that head to head is looked at over regular season overall record. The Rose Bowl committee might have been a little uneasy about selecting a Michigan team that lost to Appalachian State, even though the team did a complete 180 after the Oregon game. That's my guess anyway.
"The Rose Bowl committee might have been a little uneasy about selecting a Michigan team that lost to Appalachian State"
Yeah. I agree. I always thought that head to head was given more weight then overall record. I mean, thats why Purdue went to the Rose Bowl in 2000. But i guess it doesn't matter. It should, though. Michigan should have been in the Rose Bowl. I would have liked to get another crack at USC.
But still, it was nice to see Michigan go to the Citrus Bowl and prove that the whole "southern speed" myth is crap once again (Penn State did it in 2005 and both PSU and Wisky did in 2006, I know FSU is ACC, but they play like an SEC team).
What I'd really like to see is a 7-5 Big Ten team play a 12-1 SEC team and blow them out. It could happen if a Big Ten team picked all tough OOC games and lost them all, but only lost one conference game, and the SEC team lost the SEC championship game.
Illinois is not going to win the Big Ten in 2008, but neither is Ohio State. Michigan is going to win the Big Ten. I'll give you reasons why i think they will win the Big Ten, but i don't feel like making 5 long posts right now.
He WILL have a breakout season in 2008. He's got so much talent, and as the featured tailback, I think he'll explode for 1500 yards and 15 TD's next season. He'll also snag 20-30 passes out of the backfield.
Wow so many thoughts. I miss this part of the season. We were 7-2, ranked, and looked like a real threat to OSU. The game at Wisco didn't matter that much, but I think the staff could have used that game to warm up the team for the OSU game. I really like Carlos Brown. And look at the shotgun formations we used in this game (around 1:00) and against UF. I'm convinced Mike Debord is secretly a Buckeye. That effort against OSU was pathetic, but there were injuries and bad weather. I don't know.
i agree. the BEST PART OF GETTING A NEW COACH is the LOSS OF MIKE DEBORD. unbelievable. its fuckin 7 mins left in the game, and the worst mix of plays are run. that guy was pissin me off all season...
Im going to miss all the amazing thins Manningham did for us. Good luck in the pros Mario. You were my fav back at Michigan. May the best of luck always be with you.
Mallet could possibly fit in to Rich Rodriguez's new spread option system, he's no Pat White, but he can run pretty well. At 2:49 he shows this. That run is mostly north south, but he showed a little bit of manuverability. I just pray he doesn't transfer. And if he does hopefully Terelle Pryor commits to Michigan.
Last time we had Henne with a healthy arm, period. That's why. He wasn't healthy in this game either, but he fought through it. Then the cortisone shot into a nerve....so dumb. IN ROD WE TRUST!! Bring on '08!
I was at this game and I can't find the words to describe it. I lost my voice after the the end around pass to Manningham. Coming back to beat those fucks was incredible. GO BLUE!!
that throw at 1:03 was sick.

I really hope they give Brown and Minor a chance and don't just throw McGuffie or Robinson in as starters...

He's going to be a 2nd or 3rd team All American in 2008. Him and Morgan Trent form the Big Ten's best cornerback combo.

GO BLUE!!
