  • Me and Del were singing a little runaway. Lyric from Runnin' Down a Dream by Tom Petty.

  • Sadly, like most of these other videos, this mono version is missing the first musitron note.

  • early techno

  • Del was among the greatest and I guess he still is,brings back memories of good times.

  • Thank you Del for fueling my bitterness during a tough break-up.

  • NOT ENOUGH VIEWS

  • ya voy por el ataredecer de mi vida y desde los 15 me gusta del me hubiera gustado tambien vivir esa epoca de oro

  • Larry? Hell hats off to Del

  • I am a teenager and i like this song it's got an awesome rythm and i wanna dance everytime i hear it i like older songs coz my nan and grandad listen 2 them and 2 reggay songs 2 :)

  • Del always captured the feelings of my adolescence.

  • I`m 14 and this is my favourite song, ever, Not trying to get attention or anything! just saying, haha this generation of music is even better then mine ! :)

  • Yo amo esta cancion de shannon - Greast this song ♥

  • @lennoneliza yo tambien...Long life del shannon!

  • yeah VIce CIty DJ , the only good thing about modern time is that we have youtube so we can find almost all good oldie songs

  • for the people wishing they were born 20 or 30 years earlier - you wouldn't have youtube to navigate around and find almost any song you wanted. your here now, you might as well enjoy it.

    great song

  • why dont they have old 40s and 50s radio station?

  • Love this song, he made some really good hits.

  • I am 33 and I grew up with all of this good shit! Love it! I was lucky and had parents that bought tons of records and now i play them all the time. They never seem to age.

  • For anyone else that listened to mum and dads 45,s when you were a kid ....i know how u feel listening to this...x

  • Such a marvelous example of early technological ingenuity in rock 'n roll. The Vox organs were not anywhere near as futuristic in sound as the Musitron!

  • awesome.. i was born 20 years to late :((

  • I have this song on a 45 and still sounds great

  • Seen him in the 60's when he was on tour with Johnny Tillotson.

Remember Shannon singing this song and changing the words:

'Once I had a pretty girl

    her name it doesn't matter,

she went away with another guy

    and now she's growing fatter.'

  • @lagerhound ...LMAO!

  • I've had this song stuck in my head all day!

  • THERE WERE A FEW "LARRY S" IN MY PAST -THE GIRLS CAME BACK , BUT I ONLY LET PEOPLE BURN ME ONCE.

  • had 2 loves in life after 40 years just found the other one but still married to the first what the fuck do i do

    ??????

  • @ashjo1990 I'd suggest growing up.

  • me first and the gimme gimmes

  • Not many young people i think like this song but i do its got a really catchy tune my nan and grandad play this in the car and we all sing along it's just a sweet song :)

  • @74GASHEAD Count me as another young person that likes this song (that is if you consider 20 and 30 somethings young people).

  • They never played this often enough on the radio and I couldn't afford the record. Now I can listen anytime I want and I'm wondering why I thought it so great. It's alright though. Go Del.

  • I hope i'll send her this song real soon that vicious little bi%$h

  • 50's, 60's, 70's & 80's...after that music just died..

  • Larry the Crab

  • great going back in time

  • 1st record that I ever bought and did'nt even have a record player in those days, but it was played into oblivion on my village youth club record player. The best days ever!!!

  • Tar Beach and Fire Escapes in NYC! That's where I was when I heard this song back in the days.

  • Somehow this song is a bit sad,

but my legs go crazy each time and start to twist in rhytm :D

  • @ifrenchfry

    Yeah, do the twist! :D

  • hats off to me my name is Larry

  • We all needed a "Larry" back then....

  • hats off to the poster top tune...

  • I WAS IN JUNIOR HIGH WHEN THIS SONG WAS NEW..HAD A BEST FRIEND NAMED LARRY ROCKE AND MAN WAS HE HOT ALL THE GIRLS LOVED HIM INCLUDING MY SISTER BUT LITTLE DID HE KNOW I LOVED HIM TOO..THIS WAS 1963 AND WELL YOU KNOW IT DIDN,T HAPPEN..IF ONLY..

  • This is fantastic. Imagine the look on the bimbo's face when she heard this song.

  • Wow! That wicked organ sound same as in Runaway. Genius

  • Wonderful song, wonderful group. I remember hearing it as a kid but it now reminds me of our wonderful, late, musical friend, Larry Bearce. This one is for you Larry!!!!

  • wow ilike, ilike!

  • still sounds good!!!

  • Great song!! Real music!! Kids today are so cheated with the crap that is being force fed to them by the entertainment industry.

  • @OneHokie4Life It would have been nice to have been a teen in 1961 when this song came out, but thanks to records and CDs (and for today's generation, YouTube), this music can be enjoyed by the 1960 and later births as well as those lucky enough to have been around when these songs were hits. Thankfully, I think today's kids are starting to see the oldies are infinitely better than anything from the 21st century.

  • @OneHokie4Life; Your plaint is the battle hymn for every generation with respect to the one that follows it. The entertainment industry is fueled by what sells, and the young are always looking for something different than the fodder of their parents! Not but that I agree with you as to the quality of what they are listening to! ;-)

  • @OneHokie4Life shut up you loser

  • Great song. The original what goes around comes around tune!

  • I used to think this song was done by Jerry Lewis for some unkown reason.

  • 8 guys are named larry

  • @steadywaters1 lol Larry is bad!!

  • one of my favorite oldies when i was a teen in the '70s. they were already calling this an oldie then.. That is CKOC Hamilton

  • When singers could sing and music was music; when songs had more than 3 words and you could understand the words.

  • THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

  • i might be a youngest and this music was way b4 my time but i love it

  • Love the Farfisa Combo screamin treble!!

  • this is music, the stuff on the radio when this was big was also music, stuff on the radio today... not music. just bad noises

  • Love it!! 

  • I miss this music.

  • Good tune.

  • my name is Shannon and my dad's name is Larry..

  • What an awesome, catchy tune! One of my favourite oldie's songs. Del was such a great talent and highly original. R.I.P. You are missed!

  • my favorite oldies song.

imagine what the world was like when this song was hot on the radio!

  • @figgy709

Imagine what the world of rock and roll without the music of Del Shannon.

  • @b42baritone NO!!!!

  • @figgy709 I know exactly what it was like. I was 14 in '61

  • @Rhup234 I was 15! Yup, I remember it well.

  • @figgy709 i'm only 23 and I love this song too. when i was 8, my step dad introduced me to all of the 60s music. Music from his youth. We used to drive around in his LaBaren with the top down, blasting this song and singing as loud as we could. Good times.

  • @figgy709 ... I don't have to wonder Figgy....I was there!!! A much better world and the U.S. was a much better country. It can't be explained because no one would believe it. cya...jb

  • @figgy709 the world was a much better place than it is now! :D

  • @figgy709 It was magical back then

  • @figgy709 It was a lot better, I'm sure. Things were cheaper too. And cars had real style.

  • wowww!!!! the best song!!!!

  • pure nostalgia from a brilliant artist, saw him live, met him, a true down to earth bloke, hope hes in a better place, love ya mate

  • i was in jr. high school when i heard this song. i had a crush on a 9th grader{i was in the 7th grade} whose name was larry, so this was my song! thanx soso much for posting! brings back some good memories!

  • whats funny is my 11 year old showed tis to me

  • @calichrissy28 I noticed that kids are getting into the oldies these days. Not sure how old you are, but by the "28" I think maybe you're about my age. If so, I'm sure you remember that people of our generation mostly shunned oldies because they were "uncool". I was one of the few that liked old songs as a teen in the 1990s.

  • @MVillani1985 I'm 17 and I listen to 40's/50's music, but I really don't know many others that do.

  • @Jefferlaih I think that's what's great about YouTube. People like us can find other under-50 crowd members that like oldies like we do. Plus, we don't have to go to a music store anymore to find this kind of music.

  • @Jefferlaih I listen to the 50's, 60's and 70's. The era of real music.

  • @BADBIKERBENNY so true

  • @BADBIKERBENNY thats totally the truth.

  • @BADBIKERBENNY and the cold war, the vietnam war and charles manson

  • @BADBIKERBENNY It was sweet!

  • @Southie99 In the 50s, 60s and 70s. Artists dressed respectfully. Did they swear? No. Did they flash their bits? No. Did they blast their instruments at an ear piercing level? No. Compare the Suprems or Lesley Gore to Britney Spears or Lady GaGa. The Supremes and Lesley Gore look classy, sophisticated and dignified. Britney Spears and Lady GaGa look corny, prony and horny. What does this teach young people today? Be slutty as possible. Sorry, but modern music does not move me.

  • @BADBIKERBENNY

You mean modern chart, pop music. The Velvet Underground, Led Zep, Beatles and The Stooges blasted their instruments in the 60's. Weren't the Beatles records burned for being a bad influence? Even Elvis' hip movements were controversial. But I don't care how musicians look or whether they swear. I certainly don't care if they're a role model to youngsters. They make noise and that's what I'm interested in. Music is more than Gaga/Britney + it just sounds like you're missing out!

  • @BADBIKERBENNY

The 80s had some good shit too(especially in the underground).

  • @Jefferlaih I do :)

  • So sad he killed himself!

  • Thanks for posting good one .

  • much fun to sing at karaoke.

  • they haven't made music like this since Viet nam........I miss it...Ive worn out all of my 45's and 331/3's now I have to tape them.......

  • This was my first 45 I was 5 yrs old when I recieved it.. I LOVED the song:) Strange enough.. I married a Larry!

  • coolest song ever

  • What a guitar riff at the beginning!

Now this ladies and gentlemen is real rock and roll!

  • kick ass

  • oh the day's of old car's and Del Shannon blasting on them

  • Dear Del, My name is Cristina and I am very sorry that you had to leave the would in 1990. Where ever you might be I bet it makes feel good and smile that someone is thinking of you :) Love and smiles Cristina

  • alors là désolé, je ne sais pas............sans doute Hammond, mais sous toutes réserves

  • the best thing ever happened i found a huge collection of my perants old records

(this song was in there) two day into a collection of music thats just better than what they play now

  • i can't stop repeating this song.

  • The music from the 1950s and early 1960s is my favorite.

I fall as sleep lestining to Joan Baez, Bob Dillon the ones who destroyed Rock and Roll.

  • The Brilliant Del Shannon....

  • a cracking song

  • Del was such an amazing performer. HE was playing the organ on this and all of his other sides. He also played great piano and INCREDIBLE guitar. Check out the short, and cheap, DVD of Del at Little Darlin's.

  • Which model Hammond organ was used on this song?

  • @dharmaseed This is not an organ of any kind. It is a modified Clavioline.. which the keyboardist, Max Crook, called the Musitron. It is meant to mimick the sound of a violin.

  • @1959buddyh Wow, that's amazing. Where did you get the info on that?

  • @dharmaseed Well... I read on several different different resources.. but Wikipedia is where I found out first. Max Crook also had solo records out too.. you can look them up on Youtube. There is also some pictures of the Musitron on google.

  • @1959buddyh Since you sem to be so well-informed, do you happen to know the model of keyboard that was used on 'The Happy Organ'?

  • @dharmaseed I tried finding out.. but nothing has told me....

  • @1959buddyh Yeah, Wikipedia just lists it as an 'organ', but doesn't say which one. Shame.

  • @dharmaseed Yeah.. I know.. but great song though!!

  • @1959buddyh Hello!

It's not a Clavioline but an ONDIOLINE I think !!

  • kick ass

  • I freaking love this.

"Hats off to Larry for making you realize what a bitch you were to me"

  • @HappyBirthdaySANTA... You Need to Move to Flagstaff, AZ - - They got four or five "Oldies" stations there, and Not Much Else... aside from a bunch of retired 50's music lovers! - great place really...

  • This is music when it was real and a pleasure to listen to

  • Hats off to Del Shannon! It was his kind that kept the Beatles in check.

  • Yay!! They play this song at my work all the time!! :)

  • cool song but the cover by me first and the gimme gimmes is better xD

but i like to hear both

  • Great song!!!!!

  • Del utilized alot of organ in his songs.Sax and hammond organ finestkind!!!

  • Way to go Larry, you the man.....

  • is this the original recording or a dodgy rerecording which it sounds to me

  • fantastic!

  • Anyone looking atr my favourites will see the most different types of music over the past 45 years I have been alive, from disco to rap, hip-hop, jazz, opera. If its good I will dig it. This is good, very good. Rock and roll was the basis for many a music and I would like to think I appreciate good music. I think the true test of Good music is, will we still feel the same about it 50 years later? Classic!!

  • @2bsure I agree with you! Del, and most of the music from the 50's and 60's have and will continue to be played for another 50 years. Can this be said from what we are hearing from this generation of music? I think not. Most of what was produced in the last 10 years is already forgotten

  • @54rein you're damn right about that, my friend...most of everything that's on the radio nowadays is TRASH compared to what came out of the 50s and 60s: the music was better-sounding, the writing was top-notch (sometimes it made you think, sometimes it carried you along for the ride, and sometimes it was just plain out-there, but it STILL can't be equaled to this day), the performers were of a higher caliber (even more so once you factor in blues and Motown)...you can't beat it!!!

  • @Scorpion1977 glad to hear you echo my sentiments. Sometimes I think that my feelings are based on the fact that that was our music, just as our parents rebelled and thought "Big Band" was better than what was coming out in the 60's Still, there is no denying that as you correctly state: the music was better sounding, and the writing was top notch" As creative as that period was, I am shocked how lacking this period is.

  • cazzo è il mio mito , che posa teatrale XD ti adoro Del !!

  • this is the best kind of music not that rap crap

  • Hats of to Del Shannon....still gotta listen to his great voice....very sexy

  • @Zydake654 You work at Rite Aid, so your opinion doesn't count.

  • @Zydake654 then why listen to it here? to hate? there's a bridge with your name on it.

  • I Love Oldies Rock N Roll 1950s and 1960s

  • I love these Songs too..

  • Del Shannon didnt like term oldies.

  • @Classicguy66

Just like your name I prefer "Classics"

  • great song, but those atari noises in between are too annoying

  • (Jeremiah 13:23) Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard its spots? Then you also may do good, who are accustomed to doing evil.

  • @ROGER459 Are you high?

  • Classic.

  • Love this song but miss Del. Why did he commit suicide? He was the best.

  • @MrVampiredog He had depression problems of some sort

  • @MrVampiredog he was depressed.

  • hats off to larry :)

  • Gone from the charts, but not from our hearts! =D

  • heh, love this stuff! good on ya Larry!

  • dude this is one of the first oldies song I fell for!!

  • Oldies? oh no that makes me an oldie lol. I love them too only I grew up with them.

  • simply.......lovely

  • EVERYBODY HATES MRARCHES

  • because everybody kbnows im always right about everything.

  • haha :,-) lol yep thats right

  • @bigdog776 you are a prat

  • @mrarches EVERYBODY HATES MRARCHES

  • it is so sad that Del commited suicide in the 90s-dys after his last concert-he had so much potential-he was working with tom petty and the heartbreakers at the time

  • I like this song. Maybe, a revenge song-but I think we all need a little harmless revenge to make us feel better-my daughter, maybe, doesn't agree with me-but if makes you feel better........

  • It's refreshing to see a breakup song that celebrates the joys of schadenfreude.

  • What about the revenge songs of BoB Dylan!
