  • One of my faves!!! Freaked out the scout leaders when I was 11 back in '81 out in the woods w/ this on my little radio.LOL!!

  • that beat is catchy :D

  • DEVO is just as good as Kraftwork. Devo and Kraftwerk both should come to Connecticut, New York, and Massachusetts ASAP.

    Ron Paul 2012

  • Come to Edmonton!!! <3

  • These guys need to return to Earth and tour

  • @coreyinkato They're all over SoCal regularly. Fly out here and see them; you won't regret it.

  • @C45ACCTE Wicked , they are sick as[55 kiwi]

  • Alan Myers, the fucking "Human Metronome"!! Not a Mothersbaugh or Caselle, but they wore size 9 boots, so I imagine they came from the same clone stock

  • BRING DEVO TO CONNECTICUT, HARTFORD , NEW HAVEN ,STAMFORD, WALLINGFORD

  • i hope one that NBC will put the DAVID LETTERMAN SHOWS ON DVD, so we can see a hifi version of this great materpiece, this song can be a bigger hit then thier other clasic WHIP IT , BVMTV , and i heard the 12 inch long version on , 99 ROCK WPLR NEW HAVEN IN 1983 when WPLR WAS A GREAT ROCK STATION WITH REAL FREEDOM OF CHOICE FOR THE DJS not now WPLR is now a out let for advertismeants not muisc, WPLR IS A JOKE we need better radio stations in the tri state area, !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • devolution... today, how true it is.

  • did not lose virginity to this song... will be a dying regret (if virginity is ever lost that is)...

  • what nerve, what vision...joe walsh laughed at their concepts...but his novelty songs are pap compared to devo...it's a beautiful world

  • DEVO is next band on the rock hall of fame

  • DEVO!

    YYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

  • رائع رائع...

  • kazzarola

  • THRASHIN'!

  • @seeingonlystars classic! This song in that movie, on vert!

  • Nerds

  • Mark Mothersbaugh is a brilliant singer and person. I hear he is going to be in “Programming the Nation.” I’d love to hear everybody’s thought on it. It’s a politically charged documentary based around subliminal messaging. bit. ly/qUuUCp

  • are the guitars even plugged in!?

  • @ChaseSpross

not only here is that often my thought.

in THIS special case... i dont give a ... :D

  • @ChaseSpross They have a remote radio/power connection , first devoleped in the polyphonic 101.

  • 54 take this 0:59 !!

  • Damb it, right before I came to this site I was finally thinking life was worth living....

  • Stand up drum kit is the way every drummer should play! allen myers ! you rock!

  • I love the untouched look makes it retro

  • Asses kicked. Mission accomplished.

  • What year was this?

  • @VIRGOLEGACY 1982

  • Love the marching style dance... very easy to do when seeing them live.

  • jeez i miss the 80's

  • A WHITE MICHAEL JACKSON, LONG BEFORE MICHAEL JACKSON ON HIS " THRILLER " DAYS. just his walk, in front of the group alone is funny.

  • Perfect. Did not care for Bevo much then. Now I Understand and Appreciate. Carry On.

  • i am a true believer in de-evolution and i'm proud to say it too

  • i didn't appreciate them at the time but this is classic greatness!

  • DEVO FROM OHIO FIRST IN NEW WAVE

  • no hats D:

  • @MrBolibob

Hats? you mean the Red Energy Domes?

  • @gewglesux yup :P

  • @gewglesux good deal.. i had one i got on ebay but i think my roomie took it..

  • jajajaja they though thats the futuristic dressing? xD well, maybe? who knows xD (Loving how that hair matches the glasses)

  • holy sheep crap

  • thats good this song made it to the greatest hits of devo. it should be on the greatest hits of all time along with smart patrol/ mr dna, gut feeling, and gates of steel. this proves devo is the greatest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @TheRobbie2334 So is it bad being gay?

  • @djpollux He thinks so cuz his BF is ugly.

  • huge Devotee here... I'm having fond memories of when Devo played this on an old 80's sit com called Square Pegs (Sara Jessica Parker).... It was a totally different head...totally.

  • 52 people don't understand MY potato.

  • Spuds! ツ @duotoneblue

  • Mothersbaugh clearly influenced David Byrne's personna (Talking Heads) or vice versa

  • @tooterooterville they were friends so probably both ;)

  • I totally agree with karrazaki89--and wouldn't this be awesome: A tour featuring Devo and They Might Be Giants. I would be ridiculously geeked for that.

  • Hello Spuds, not meaning to take away from this video at all but I have the same one just with the added on interview Dave did with Mark and Jerry but it's kind of bad quality. I am the only person with the Letterman interview that I know of so come check it out on my channel!

  • I firmly believe that Devo is the band that opened the path for band like They Might be Giants

  • Great video!

But the quality is better at youtube com/watch?v=H2RoUIxUa6I

  • Today's "musicians": afraid to take a WTF approach. Why? There isn't a total 2 balls among all of them. No balls! None. Nope.

  • i agree... they look off compared to today's standards but when this was played at a rave or any place like that the reaction was volatile, total rock out! and it would increase with every hit of that 80's snare drum! cool tune.

  • @SquirtTheSquirtle Metallica was invented for squirties like you.

  • Bad Ass.

  • 52 people think De-Evolution is a good thing.

  • 52 people have no musical taste think the 80s were a waste of time.

  • I think Devo makes more sense with the oddity that is out there today in music that kids like. Too bad they'll be seen as "old". I love Devo, and their new album is respectable and should sell well. I don't know the numbers, but it's for sure kickass. I know I bought it. Tough to find at stores though. Plus not only is their style neat, but they are more talented then bands today.

  • @Sambarre These guys were WAY ahead of their time. It is too bad that there aren't more bands that go to the extreme when it comes to uniqueness. Unfortunately, it's all rap, top 40, and hard rock bands who all pretty much sound the same. I loved Devo because they went out of their way to not sound or look like everyone else. WE ARE DEVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I still love this fuckin' band.

  • Apparently they don't have any muscle tone in the future.

  • i dont know. i guess it was the "time", but i would have liked them to be more guitar and devo-punk. old-school moog analog synth and guitars and bass you have been able to HEAR!.

but i like this last album. its wierd enough creativitly to be true devo.

though a bit to much mothersbaugh influence for my liking.

  • im gonna throw this fucking 1000 dollar computer out the window if this shit doesnt load

  • 51 people are devolved

  • I saw them do this song on Square Pegs.

  • 0:40 mark kinda looks like tina fey

  • Does it get any cooler than this?

  • Hells YEAH!!!

  • 50 non-spuds don't get it....never did

  • One of these guys ..Is my nextdoor neighbor...Ha...really is.. He even has an old poster of his group with those pots on<in his window facing out...he dresses in all black now.

  • they get so many bitches

  • @UltraGokin and a fat chick barfing hostess ho hos will win the emmy.every one will shit in the streets when ebver the urge hits them and we will all die of disease...

    good jop sheep!

  • PELVIC THRUST!

  • otimo

  • Epic moment to hear them perform this one live 2 weeks ago:) After almost 40 years, they sure know how to put a show! Devo fan since a kid.

    Long Live Devo-lution!!

  • I adore these band so much,along with B-52's,I can't believe,i love my life

  • aids - hiv 1982

  • no, this is the early 80s ! ... not the 21th century - just to clearify how lame these days are :)

  • where´s the original video ? youtube mother fucker

  • At a party not too long ago, I threw some Devo on and the young 20 somethings went wild. They asked me who was playing, that it was so cool. I laughed because it was just Devo. What can I say, it sounds bitchin to this day.

  • Great glasses

  • It's a Devo thing!

  • i miss the 80's..so much good music and everything was about color.everything was neon and pastel.

  • @ontoppau2nite yeah I miss audience participation in movie theaters. Remember audiences cheering when the good guys won? The music was also much better, then.

  • And now they do tunes for cartoons.

  • yo gabba gabba, go mark

  • yo gabba gabba go mark

  • First time I saw DEVO I was hooked. Love them, still do !!!

  • First time I saw DEVO I was hooked. Love them

  • Devo means "inhuman" or rather, "not men". funny to see them LIVE on letterman. Devo is awesome. So 80's. yet timeless.

  • How D-E-V-O is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is criminal!

These guys were way ahead of their time musically and socially.

    Vote them in!!!

  • DEVO rulessss !!!!

  • ahh one of my favorite childhood memorys is of devo one of the few things i remember from my child hood

  • Thanks for you live shows in Sonar and Primavera Sound here in Barcelona

I remember you still playing even with the sound off and the lights out¡¡¡ CRAZYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Akron Rules!!!

  • Devo's so fucking awesome. I got their greatest hits a few weeks ago, 100% happy with the purchase.

  • @Sambarre the greatest hits album i suppose was a single.

  • remember me trashing. the film energyTrack

  • Thats a good thing!

  • Comment removed

  • Mark's voice is RIGHT there.

  • Surprised that they would have done a true live performance - they rocked SNL and Fridays live many times. Truly one of the greatest bands of all time.

  • @kwyjibosinkus If only he'd been the inspiration for Data.

  • @sjsharks0720 It's the 21st century, dammit-- We should all demand to be dressing like this.

  • @GoblinXXX PROTIP: Don't walk by the insane asylum while dressing like that.

  • yes, dressing this way should be mandatory! :)

  • @tomtrash ... And where's our FLYING CARS?

  • @GoblinXXX Good one!

  • coolest synth band in this tragic world !

  • This is a fantastic performance.

  • A very underrated band, I think.

  • DEVO ROCKS!

  • too bad most bands are to chicken shit and TOO CAREFUL to go for it like these guys did 30 years ago! wtf? looks like DEVOlution has surely taken place!

  • @xesenta69 They re-united to prove that it has indeed occurred, sadly.

  • I watched a DVD showing them supporting Metallica of all bands...the rockers fans began by shouting abuse and ended up fucking loving them..that's the DEVO effect for ya! Mothersbaugh's incidental scores are all over the tv. Extremely talented and willing to challenge. I like that.

  • @La77a what DVD was that

  • @jackerx5 for the life o me i've no idea. It was an American concert - they asked Devo to support them and it was a success. I will ask amongst my usual suspects and get back to you. Can't find it on YT.

  • @La77a and @jackerx5 DEVO Live. It was recorded at a daytime show. Rhino put it out. They were using Metallica's set to play. Pretty good stuff.

  • @epsteinsmutha1 thanks for that (bit late with the thanks, but nice one).

  • I thought hey I have no prob with people talking about me after I listeneed to DEVO! That i s their prob!

  • Devo was so far ahead of their time. music GENIUS!

  • I LOVE THIS!!!!

  • LOVE IT I THE WORLD!!!

  • LOVE IT I THE WORLD!

  • DEVO was so far ahead of their time........the world STILL has not caught up with them.

  • @unibrook Totally agree!!!!!!!!

  • yea get their new album its good

  • Performative sound with Performative attitude.

  • :O!

  • @BikeSwimLaugh: their lives today consist of touring and promoting their new album :P

    I love devo so much.

  • Do you guys even realize Devo is responsible for initiatiing, developing and inspiring the "Pelvic Thrust" that you see portrayed in this video? These nerds rocked it. Where are they today? OMG, probably leading obscure lives...but in their day they had a few years of beeming notoriaty. You know what would be really killer? A remake of this song with some serious extended time and a techno mix...it has good energy and a nice flow...like a gem from the past.

  • It's a MONUMENTAL GOOD THING!!

  • Devo is a good thing.

  • its like these stud pimps had to create specialized dance suits to accomidate the awesome spewing from their bodies.

not only that but it seems like their dance moves project almost overwhelming amounts of sexytime action funk.

where did these princes come from?

  • Those are called "SPUD COLLARS" they are wearing

  • fucking awesome!

  • I don't know if it was the music or all my over the top crazy spazmotic robot dancing...God that was great fun!!!

  • I still have my spud collar, my spud gun( for chasing down hinky-dinks) my flower pot hat, and my corp hair..I really do). I usedto have a bright yellow work suit too but have no idea where it is * sniffle* My dad took me too my first of many Devo concerts back in the day and was so perplexed..LOL. We had fun!! Got him to put on the hat that we bought in the lobby before the concert. I LOVE DEVO & ALWAYS WILL. THE ARE WAY COOL & TOTALLY BEYOND AWESOME!!!

  • @preciousbash I envy you. I saw them once in Glasgow in 2006 . I would have killed to have seen them "back in the day".

  • @FaxanaduJohn It was very cool and it's a memory I cherish, but I am looking forward to seeing them in this modern age. I am going to wear all my 20+ year old

devo stuff when I go AND PARTY MY ASS OFF!! DEVO FOREVER!! Soooo Progressive :0)

  • @FaxanaduJohn They were so quirky and off the charts back then. They were hugely well known ands were still building a name for themselves. I had heard them on a college station and loved them so much. I was very young. Not even 10. They played in a college auditorium and were very camp and crazy. I would love to travel back in time and do that again! Whatever year you get to see devo in it's got to ALL GOOD!!!

  • @preciousbash Shold read "were hugley UNKNOWN....etc....

  • @preciousbash Neat story, your dad sounded way cool.

  • @preciousbash

You are a 'male" - correct?

    You sound like a . . ..

    Yeah, I bet you are.

  • @preciousbash Nope, I am actually a rather stunning female :0)!!!

  • @preciousbash Keep telling the Internet that. ;)

  • @dinosaurjr420 I don't need to. It is what it is. check out my channel. The pics in my avatar are of me in one of my designs so choke on my dust..Hate on hater!!! I have beyond super model good looks. I do not base who I am on my good looks , quite the opposite but

you are oviously not in my zone...No biggie!

  • @preciousbash those are really precious moments. you Dad is way cool!

  • @preciousbash so?

  • @preciousbash My brother wants a spud ring collar really bad lol. He's hoping clubdevo will release it again. He got me the corp hair for christmas. We always wanted it back in the day. We got energy domes last summer from clubdevo and wore them to the show in Des Moines. It was epic. One of DEVOS people took a pic of us and posted it on clubdevo.com. Like a dream come true 30 years later lol. We got yellow suits from ebay and rocked them on halloweeen. So much fun!

  • @sixwhip14 AWESOMENESS!!! I NEED one of those yellow jumpsuits!!!! I am definately going to check out clubdevo!!! Congrats on the pic! Happy New Year to all the Devo enthusiasts of the world!!

  • @preciousbash sweet!!!!

  • were? Is!

  • devo é o tataravo do tecno

  • I love how they just throw on a toilet seat and they are transformed to DEVO.

  • He looks li9ke Freddie Garrity (Freddie and the Dreamers) Obviously thats where the similarity ends!

    Devo were Brilliant :-)

  • Hammer pants before the hammer???? -(THAT"S GOOD)

  • thats good ,heck wasnt eaven born back then !!

  • its like these stud pimps had to create specialized dance suits to accomidate the awesome spewing from their bodies.

  • always loved the way they moved
