I think the only issue with the sensor is how to sense whether or not the ENTIRE puck has crossed the line. Lets say the sensor is in the middle of the puck, even though it may just barely cross the line, the net would light up. It could cause some more controversy in terms of who has the final ruling on a goal: The Net or the Referee?

The goal looked to be in but the NHL made the right call I think. Toskala was amazing and Kessel has been what we expected him to be and more. I think it' time for Schenn to sit a few games just to clear his head.

that "inconclusive" goal was definately in the net. i really think its time for the NHL to include the laws of physics into their rulings. you can clearly see the puck disappear into huets glove, which went into the net. you can clearly see the puck come out from behind the post which means it had to be behind it first. unless of course the laws of physics don't apply to the NHL. absolute bullshit.

They should bring back that chip that they put into the puck for the fox network games about 20 years ago, you know the one that you could see where the puck was even when it was up against the boards. If they had that chip in the puck then they could see exactly where the puck is, even when it's covered up by the goalies glove or big butt. The front view showed the puck in the glove, the side view showed the entire glove behind the line, shoulda been a goal. But the Leafs can't catch a break.

Putting an electronic device in the puck to have an accurate reading on whether or not the puck crossed the line is something I have thought of also. But the only way to do it would have to have no impact on the puck's weight, how you control it, or obviously its shape. Also the device would have to be able to survive say a Kovalchuk slap shot from the point. A hockey puck gets a beating every-night, and it would have to survive that beating with amazing reliability.

lets look at the disallowed goal another way...

if that goal had been called "goal" on the ice and somehow seen as in the net (because we all knew it was). it would not have been turned back and called "no-goal".

For a video review to change the on-ice call there has to be 100% video evidence where you can see the puck, and its entirety across the goal line.

Its the on-ice call that made the difference and I don't think any referee would have called that "goal" on ice.

I'm glad Kessel's doing so good with the Leafs. For linemates, I'm stumped, though.

As for the disallowed goal, I believe Huet made the save there and that's all that matters. There was a similar goal during the Olympics in 2006 that Canada coulda gotten against Switzerland, but they said Gerber had made the save...I'm a goalie fan, so I may be a little biased though.

I've seen a few of those "inconclusive" goals count before! Oddly enough against the Leafs! One game against Shittsburg the puck hit part of the padding around the inside of the net and jutted out. You couldn't see the puck past the line on any replay but they counted it as a goal against the Leafs. I think the NHL will screw the Leafs any chance they get!

great game by kessel and toskala... on the second goal i thought toskala was going to lose it (he just had that look on his face)... and maybe for the video reviews they should also utilize what is seemingly becoming rarer and rarer: common sense. of course it was a goal.. the glove was behind the post (meaning over the line) and the puck came out of the glove, which was behind the line. meaning the puck must have also been behind the line. and to go from 2-1 back to 2-0 and now a PK was rough.

Seriously, that puck idea is brilliant, however I think it would change the rules a bit as it would probably trigger when it begins to go over the line as opposed to the rule where the whole puck must go over the line.

It was definitely a goal. When they should the zoomed in video from the top angle, you can see some black behind the goal line, which is obviously the puck in the net. Schenn had a pretty bad game with that terrible giveaway, and a crappy fight, hopefully he can get out of this slump soon. Gunnerson (spelling?) will play tonight I think, and Gustavsson in net.
