Autotune's been around for over a decade. It was created to be tool used in production that expanded on what other plug-ins already did but were not devoted to. Its been used in rock, country, etc. for years just to push a note or two back on key when a singer just couldn't get it. T-Pain started using Autotune because he can't sing. Kanye West and Lil Wayne use Autotune because they wanted to sing but they can't. Its not creative, its a way to circumvent an artist's limits.
