  • This is a great cover - his version of "Lucy..." is even better than the original Beatles track !

  • Comment removed

  • good cover!

  • Elton John and Paul McCartney should do a cover of this it would be awesome

  • @TinyDancer3344 if elton was going to do a cover with paul he should just do it himself. : )

  • @jason13204 ikj but it would be cute to see a duet

i mean my two idols doing a duet together ^_^

  • Elton's version of Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds is better too xD

  • Wheres John Lennon? Oh my bad, this was Xmas Eve. John joined Elton for Thanksgiving of that year! Lol!

  • Been trying to get tickets for the Elvis Tribute concert but the phone keeps saying press 1 for the money 2 for the show ..

  • he did this with john lennon later

  • omg he does look like alex from rush

  • Funny to look back to 74 and realise that yes, Elton John has always, and always will be shit. Also his version of Lucy in The Sky with Diamonds was an abomination. Tasteless, like everything he's ever done..

  • @augustusdes Oh just go away, and take your massive generalisations with you. You're talking like the beatles songs are on some untouchable higher level, this is JUST a rock and roll song, that's all it's ever been, and elton does a great performance of it

  • @augustusdes John Lennon once admitted that he preferred Elton's version over The Beatles

  • I wish there was more high quality footage of Elton and his band from early in his career. I'd love to see this whole concert - Elton and company in their prime were unbeatable.

  • Betters the Beatles version in my opinion.

  • wow i cant stand his glasses!!!

  • Yeah that live version of " I saw her standing there" is so close to the MSG version ( with Lennon) performed nearly a month before. Thanks for uploading. Will you be doing more from this concert ?

  • Why hasn't this show been released commercially?

  • To this day I still can't understand why someone Elton's entourage,on his crew or even someone in the audience didn't have a video camera when John Lennon played with him on Thanksgiving just weeks before this was shot....God knows EVERBODY was filming him during this period, and this video's a perfect example! ARRGGGH!

  • guitarrist looks like rush's alex lifeson

  • Man, have you ever heard Elton doing Get Back? Sick!

  • great cover of a song by the Greatest band ever. although this is technically quite good, nothing cna ever replace the original Beatles versions of songs I'm afraid.

  • Omg, he's totally rocking it! <3

  • i dont care if he is a good mucisian, just stop covering beatles songs you blaspheme

  • @MyDreamside ---I think it was ok becuase Elton and John Lennon were such good friends and they actually did this live together---so its not like some band stealing a song----it was just for fun---not blaspheme!...settle down

  • @rcktman757 he is blaspheme not to the beatles but to jesus he disrespect his name.So i dont like to hear my favorite songs by this blaspheme faggot

  • @MyDreamside oh sorry---did not know this was a homophobe thing....this will be my last comment---dont have time to deal with biggots

  • @rcktman757 i am not an homophobe

  • @MyDreamside What the hell?? You just wrote

'he is blaspheme not to the beatles but to jesus he disrespect his name.So i dont like to hear my favorite songs by this blaspheme faggot'

And then wrote 'i am not an homophobe'

Leaving your poor literary skills aside for a moment, are you an imbecile?

  • *guess

  • @Darkriftisdean0800 grow up. . .

  • let me tell you something of racistteabaggers, he wants to kill me.

I give notice to him now by our state law.

He comes to my way, I'll shoot the motherfucker since he threatened my life before, and I can do that by state law.

I blocked this bastard, why does he continue to threaten me.

Now I have to have a gun for protection thanks to racistteabaggers.

  • @capt777737 Who the hell are you talking to wierdo? Are you ok? need meds? teabaggers are chasing you? lmfao your wierd. what do they look like? do the racist teabaggers have hoods? I think maybe you are one of them loony fucks. Are you a witch? Well I guees you can shoot one if they get you. Do us a favor freako, kill all the teabaggers if you see them.

  • RacistTeabaggers has been stalking me, it is a federal crime.

Legally I can put him in the ground, by our state law.

  • Simply Brilliant! Love-Love-Love It! :) :) :)

  • Great video. Great to see & hear Dee Murray on bass.

  • @yellowsubmarine... then you surely haven't heard the killer...

  • Wonderful Job John^^

  • Fantastic version! This is how it should be played.

  • i usually hate when people cover beatles songs, just because i feel like no one can ever do a decent cover, but leave it to elton john to prove me wrong! =) he's incredible.

  • more like i saw "him" standing there! lol, cause hes gay, right? Idk u rock Elton

  • Yeah nice one lucy you homophobic.

  • @Jamiethewookie Wouldn't exactly call it homophobic to make light of the fact that he's gay... but alright.

  • @Jamiethewookie

That ain't homophobic. Just a play on the song's title commenting on how Elton was gay

  • @luckyjinxer

At that time, in the late '70s, Elton was going out with women too (people forget he was actually married to a woman for about 6 months in the early 80's).... so, you could say "I Saw Anyone Standing There" lol

  • I didn't know that, i guess your right.

  • @1olrocker He got married in 1984. That's Not the "Early" 80's.

  • this is the best version that exists other than the beatles one

  • He was an original for sure and he can do it all!

  • HAHA nice outfits...you know the beatles are badass when idols like Elton John are covering their songs

  • I wish there was some footage of this outfit with the giant head piece on !!!

  • elton can play piano like nobodys business. i saw him on a late night talk show, videotaped it, and even when he was joking around he was awesome!!!

  • haha freaking awesome

  • not a bad effort from old elton

  • By 1974 The Beatles were disbanded.

  • I love elton John he is the f'in shiz nit

    ~Abby,14

  • Yes he does.

But that doesn't make him any less awesome.

  • Agreed. The guy can sing, write, and play the piano. Is anything else that important for a musician?

  • correct

  • The guitarist looks like Tommy Shaw from Styx... I'm referring to the one at the beginning

  • 5*****

  • NIce rocking version

  • HAHA! Nice haircut!

Anyway, this song rocks! Love it

  • Damned....I really love this song ! It's really damned rock & roll...

  • YEEESSSS!!! :)

  • I also went to see Elton John in 1974 but it was in Portland Or. I was a teenager and he was really popular back then. I love his music from this era.

  • Lucky you. :)

  • esta bueno

    se lleva 5****

  • Wow, it's funny how different Elton John's style is from The Beatles, even when he's singing one of their songs...This is really good though. But I think I like The Beatles' version better. Elton John is still amazing though. =)

  • @carrotatop1 thats cause Paul McCartney is the best there ever was

  • @Villeneuve27 The best there ever was? He wasn't even the best in the Beatles!

  • @hallauthor bull crap, look at what he did on his own compared to the others.

  • @Villeneuve27 On his own? Ebony and Ivory...Band on The Run...Say Say Say...What genius! Bad hair dye and eye lifts can't mask what he did on his own, which was popular crap that pandered to the lowest common denominator. Without Lennon he had the musical depth of the Captain and Tenille.

  • @hallauthor He had so many amazing songs like: Maybe I'm Amazed, Jet, Band On The Run, My Love, Too Many People, Another Day, Listen To What The Man Said, Let 'Em In, Hi Hi Hi, Silly Love Songs, Tug Of War, Helen Wheels, Venus And Mars, Bluebird, Live And Let Die, Let Me Roll It, Mull Of Kintyre, No More Lonely Nights, Wanderlust, Letting Go...the list is fucking endless. McCartney was the only Beatle to reamain a superstar after the break up, your dillusional if you think he sucks.

  • @Villeneuve27 Naming those songs tells me you have a very low threshold for what is "amazing." Lennon absolutely remained a superstar post-Beatles, and if you don't agree with that, you are the one who's delusional. The message, tone, and timelessness of Imagine outshines every song you cited combined. McCartney was prolific, no question. But his work proves that quantity does not trump quality. McCartney's fight to re-bill Lennon-McCartney as McCartney-Lennon told me all I needed to know.

  • @hallauthor I'm not one to normally partake in internet discussion, but I have to say without each other,I feel neither would have been so timeless .. Their collaborative work is hands down the finest music ever made,on both parts. Now you're just picking favorites... But hey,I like George,so...

  • @hallauthor ok.. so Paul made a mistake with trying to reverse those credits.. McCartney has said he has no problem with the Lennon-McCartney tag now..

However, I Saw Her Standing There is a song that Paul wrote. John Lennon and Elton John covered it at the MSG concert a month before this concert and I have to respectfully disagree with your assertion that "Imagine" outshines all of those McCartney songs combined that Villeneuve27 mentioned. I don't even think John would have agreed with that.

  • @hallauthor He wrote Yesterday, the Sgt. Pepper album, Let It Be, Hey Jude........come on seriously he was the heart and soul of the Beatles.

  • elton john is one of the greatest artists of all time, rock on

  • This reminds me his duet on stage with John Lennon... :( Two legends...Elton and John

  • at least i know what time it was when they took the video.....

  • Ha ha ha as this was being taped I was 4 years old, watching Sesame Street and getting excited about Santa Claus...all before I realised that I was living on a huge celstial turd which goes by the name of earth

  • amazing version.

    i like)

  • elton john just brings so much more life into songs. dont get me wrong i love the original but, elton just gives you more to listen to, like how he redid lucy in the sky... he just brings so much more life into the music.

  • i completely agree

every cover he does is great

like pinball wizard from the who

i mean guys u have to admit elton always makes a cover great

pauls great and eltons great! :D

  • he did lucy in the sky good but you cannot like the suit he was wearing

  • Elton rules !!! ☮ ★ ∎ ✖ ✺

  • The Beatles are WAY better

  • I AGREE

  • yes one naughty day elton sneeked through the likkle beatles stickhouse and stuck their songs in his pocket and ran away with them! well as you can imagine all the likkle beatles got upset and started to cry....and remember kids IF YOU DON'T CLEAN YOUR TEETH YOU'LL HAVE NO TEETH TO CLEAN...... ooooohh i can't get over that naughty elton

  • Hm, Elton did a lot of Beatles songs. Did he have the rights to those songs?

  • No he stole them right from under their noses. But since he was so low profile and had so little money in the 70's, he got away with it. PLus he's the only one ever to cover the Beatles.

  • The Beatles songs have been covered by THOUSANDS of artist. The song Yesterday has over 3000 recorded versions just by itself. It's in the Guinness Book of Records.

  • Are you on drugs, or just stupid?

  • When you say a lot... it's about 3 isn't it?

  • the beatles version is and forever will be the best

  • Does any video exist of Elton and Lennon doing this in New York that year, along with Lucy in the Sky? I've seen still pictures but never video ....

  • Nothing was filmed that night. Too Bad !!

  • I have the recording, but not the video....not sure if any video exists but it would be great!

  • amazing song

    and a very good cover

  • A true true rump wrangler

  • This is recorded the night that I was born... Dec 24 1974...

Completely useless information, but I thought it was kind of neat!!

  • You can tell Elton is starting to lose his hair. I wonder if he was gay at that time?

  • I think he was always gay just in a state of confusion a lot of the time e.g marrying Renate Blauel.

  • You reckon? :P

  • Yes indeed :P

  • great song. great show.

  • You can get this concert on disc from this guy named Bob Shandor.Plus, lots of other rare footage!!!

  • o why don't you bike it

  • Almost kind of got to agree with you.

  • Hes got a great voice! i think we can all agree that the lion king sound track is rather shmexy! XD

  • This song is awesome!! I love the way he sings it and the way Lennon and McCartney sing it <3

  • Great concert.

  • Just uploaded a video for "JOHN LENNON - ELTON JOHN - Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds", which also has "I Saw Here Standing There" live. It made it, and it has a few pictures of Elton and John Lennon performing together that night!

  • Thanks Russell

I was at the MSG show a month earlier when Elton performed I saw Her Standing ...with John Lennon, along with Lucy In The Sky & Whatever Gets You Through The Night.

Unfortunately that was the last time Lennon ever appeared in concert.

Have you been able to find clips from that performance?

I've been looking for a long time with no luck. )=:

  • Entire Hammersmith 74 concert:

Google a search on Elton John Archives.

  • That show and most of Elton's appearances on tv in the seventies are on bootleg DVD. There is a guy in Canada who has all of that.

  • Excellent clip would like to see the whole concert!

  • Gracias totales para russelljdj por estos videos, muchas muchas gracias, no sabes cuánto amo las actuaciones de Elton John cuando era joven. En los 70's en sus mejores momentos.

  • classic performance! superb!
