@lazycollosion He was Pontiac's last celebrity spokesperson. You can see him promoting Pontiac with a customized G6 Coupe in the "Straight To The Bank" music video.
Just so you know yes it was made in australia but gm has owned Holden since 1931 so it's still technically American. Toyota camrys are made in kentucky but it's still a jap car
i dont think they realize that Holden itself is literally owned and operated by GM, and the Commodore was initially intended to ultimately be brought to the states, it was released in Australia first to test it in that market, and based on its success it would be brought to the US and clearly it succeeded. case in point. NO OFFENSE, but Australia is basically the US's "lab-rat" car market.
@MrJab4309 "NO OFFENSE, but Australia is basically the US's "lab-rat" car market."
I don't think it's quite fair to say that. True, Holden's been part of GM for 80 years now, and GM is arguably the world's first international car maker (in the modern sense). If you look at the history, Holden's been consistently making the kind of performance muscle we started back in the 60's. If anything, the Aussies are getting all the great stuff the Big 3 are afraid to revive here.
The Commodore is currently sold as a Chevy Lumina in the Middle East. As of now, we have it as the Camaro, which is pretty hot. But the G8 was pure genius- RWD, V8, 4 doors, a real back seat. Only a bad economy could kill this combination. Please please PLEEEEEAAAAAASE bring it back! Would like to see it come back as a Buick. Now THERE's a brand that needs to return to its RWD roots.
@FraAngelico729 im all for the new regal, it looks sweet! and it is no slouch but still...it remains a 4cyl turbo...comeon we want the 3.8L back and while they're at it, how bout a twin turbo instead of one, then we can rub it in Nissan's face!
@MrJab4309 Nice call. Plenty of GM 6-cyl engines with a lots of high end potential, especially turbocharged. As long as it comes with RWD or AWD. I'm so sick of this nice, safe, sensible fuckin' FWD. Really disappointed in GM trying to cram this 'FWD performance' horseshit down our throats. Making me puke.
@ClubbySuperCharged "The CTS-V and G8 GXP's handling are good because it has a chassis made and designed by Holden!"
Lame, dude. A car's chassis is just the beginning. The CTS-V and G8 GXP handle well because they're engineered well from top to bottom. The stick up your ass is that they're American cars.
ok FUCK the aussys or pussys or whatever they are. If its a corvette engine then the whole POWER HOUSE of the car is American and thats the most important part! cool, they designed the body! big fucking deal!
@socceracerdude are you stupid, it was designed and built in aus, shut the fuck up yanky peice of shit, get over it we make good muscle cars to yoiu no, the supercluby would rap any car you fags ever made
Even if it really is a Holden, Holden is a GM branch and so is Pontiac. Same thing.... I just love the Pontiac name and logo... it just says awesome...
let me tell u this ... gm still build good trucks and SUVs .... the last good four doors GM ever made was the chevy caprice, buick roadmaster and cadillac fleetwood .... Ford is gonna kil the american traditional car in the end of 2011.. dodge is doing a good job by making the 300c and dodge charger... but i hope they keep in mind next look have to be classic even if it has to be a box ... as long its american its going to be a fantastic car to me
The Holden Commodore HSV Clubsport was being sold in the states as the Pontiac G8 GXP (and now in a two-door version the Chevy Camaro) and in the UK as the Vauxhall VXR8.
Why the heck aren't you selling them in europe as Opel OPC8's?!?
Want to see this come back as a Chevy, the G8 and it's Commodore cousin are hot ass cars. Rumor has it that if the Caprice Police Model does well, the Commodore will be back as a Chevy. And I wonder what these idiots would say if they learned the current Camaro was designed and engineered in Australia.
I have a 2009 G8 gt and i love that its not popular. I debadged it and people barely know what it is. Last time I was at the car wash some guy said to me "nice bmw". Fucking idiot. All in all i love my g8/commodore!!

@paintballbrad95 What good car has America ever made? It is interesting the every American defends themselves by talking about the size of your military, yet your military hasn't won a war since god knows when and and your military is so poorly trained.
He was clearly talking about the geographical size of our country compared to yours you dumb shit. Doesn't take a genius to figure that one out. But I guess America has the lowest test scores of all modernized countries so it isn't shocking.
@paintballbrad95 That's a great assumption considering Canada is the only country north of you. Was I commenting on the quality of your auto industry? No, and has Canada made a good car? Well obviously not... I should have been more specific in my original comment as I was referring to your T.V shows and media. Yet again every time somebody bashes the U.S the typical American reply is used citing the size of your military as a definition of the quality of your country. Blind patriot
I would love to have my hands on a Maloo or Commodore, I live in America and yes Americans dont have many choices for V8 muscle that are affordable, Ford sucks...If I have to buy a Holden to enjoy V8 muscle then I'll move to Australia.
If that bald-headed douchebag moved his seat any closer to the steering wheel, he could've steered the fuggin thing with his tits.

I love how proud the aussys are of their shit car brand that their American overlords scrapped because no one wanted to buy it. THATS why no one knew it was australian.
@TVR161 Can the three of you shut up! besides, Vauxhall is now Canadian, And pontiac sold Better in Canada, and just because they dropped pontiac DOSEN'T mean any company can't just buy the rights to Pontaic and bring it back, this means neither you Yanks or Auzzie's are fighting over anything worth fighting for
@natewho21 and yet again another american that know shit all.
why do you guys even comment because 99.9% of the time you guys are wrong...they scrapped it because of your poor economy considering u fuckhead national debt is over 9 trillion dollars u couldn't afford ti keep it going
soon you guys wont be able to afford to buy a pack of gum from your local shop.............your trades are as bad as your economy...so fuckoff
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The australian version SUCKS!!! I had no idea it was this bad. I personally like the US version the best, not only because i think its great but also because i'm American and i'm a bit of a patriot. The UK version is great also but i still like the US version better.
@01informer the US version IS the Australian version, you daft twat. it's the same car, just with your idiotic american crud stamps all over it. and the UK version is just the exact same thing but with Vauxhall badges. only someone with half a brain would say anything so ridiculously stupid. saying you're american just cements everyone's opinion of you. try using that bit of grey mush between your ears before you open your fat, big-toothed american grease hole
@01informer you are one dumb fuck but i guess we all should expect that from an american after all most of u guys are dumb....the american version is (AUSTRALIA) we import it to you guys and them u go ahead and fuck it all up with the pontiac front and badge.....u guys can't make a good car there all shit...australian ford/holden kicks the fuck out of any of your cars,,,,,,,,holden also imports to uk and other like united aram empire with is called lumina i think...dumb fuck
@01informer lol the US version is anything but the best. It's definitely my least favourite. UK then Aussie and the good 'ol U.S of A is at the bottom. Like almost everything else, America takes something good, removes everything that made it good in the first place until its a bland hollow shell of existence, then sells it back to it's citizens who gobble it up because it's full of patriotic bullshit. Oh our silly little neighbours to the south, I just can't help but laugh
@01informer I'm Australian and I DESPISE Top Gear Australia. I also speak fluent Chinese and I DESPISE Top Gear China. Top Gear UK is the original and the best. Always will be that way. THE END
i was in australia in 2002. right when the Monaro was king and the GTO wasn't out yet. I was so disappointed that America didn't embrace the GTO just because the styling didn't match the name in that era of retro everything. Anyways, fast forward a bit and the G8 finally gets it right--right at the wrong time and its dead. We really missed out on some awesome cars. They should rebrand the G8, Ford should bring over the Falcon GT and we could have a 4 door version of the Mustang vs Camaro battle!
Like someone else said real enthusiasts knew what it was but even at the height of sales I would've had to drive at least 360 miles to find a GXP 6-speed in a color I did not want and would have had to pay a substantial mark-up to own one. I ended up buying a Holden Monaro...I mean Pontiac GTO 6-spd instead. GM killed this car like many other great cars with poor corporate thinking and replaced the marque with Chinese Buicks. Truth be told I did not car who built it as long as it was a good car.
the real car people knew this. from first word of it i was hooked .lo an behold one sits in my garage.THE BEST CAR I HAVE WRAPED MY HANDS AROUND.PERIOD
@gear15100 well since they dont make them anymore they are now "collectors items" so good luck with gettin one cheaper.. that car will continue to get more expensive
@LRDubya Ive seen them for around $18k in some magazine, and they are GXP with lowish miles, I guess people done understand a good car, but since they wont be made anymore the price may, or may not go up. depends.
Sadly I don't think I will buy another GM again do to the fact they sacked Pontiac. GM does not make cool cars anymore Chrysler builds shit Ford well Fords have problems but all around are ok except their suspension is too damn stiff. Pontiac use to stand for excitment at one time but because the Big Three could not manage there check books. Fuck you big three you are dead to me, the only time I buy american used is anything from 08 and back. I think for new I will stick to Honda, Subaru.
@djjeff3 how do you complain about pontiac standing for excitement (making yourself sound like a car guy) yet you say youll stick to hondas and subarus? reallll excitement there ha
Im american and I own a G8 GXP ...I KNEW the car was built in Australia..DUH! I also knew the engine was created HERE in America and shipped down under to get wrapped in "Holden".......This is not exactly a IMPULSE buy...LOL Research your purchases first.....LOL
I dont think the people interviewed are STUPID they just didnt know...its a natural assumption to THINK that if it says Pontiac it is Pontiac.....

Australian-sold Pontiacs in the 50's and 60's were Canadian supplied cars. All Chevrolet drivetrains and underpinnings. No "wide-track" Pontiacs. Laurentians and Parisiennes, not Bonnevilles and Catalinas.
I don't get it. They drop Pontiac but they keep Buick and other shit. No one buys fucking Buicks. They should have never stopped making Grand Ams seeing as how they were GMs most popular sports/family sedans/2doors. Fucking idiots.
It's the same thing with the Vauxhall VXR. Made in Australia with an American engine in it. I like the looks of the Vauxhall better than the Pontiac anyways. Also, the GTO is the same way, its just a Holden Monaro I believe
It's a good car just that our economy completely fucked this car and company up too bad see it leave *sighs* oh well let's move on.... Bring me my Stang Shelby 500gt.. Lol
@BENDOON23 holden is australian......witch is own by gm....but that it really less that what 20% of the car is american......it designed built tested in australian....u know your camero the chassis is made by holden
Kind of embarresing tbh, the fact that we have to jump up and down to the US like a anoying little brother saying " look what ive done! i can make stuff too!!"
Seriously, yeah its a nice car but why do we have to tell the yanks we built it?
@Antifaith29 Embarrassing...ok I can understand that but it's ok with me. Your car production is a novelty to the US market and jumping up and down is the only way we'll notice. Until word of the GTO coming out I never new what a Holden was. Once I knew it was coming from Australia then I had to research it. Luckily I was in the Navy at the time and had the opportunity to check out Holden product 1st hand. That's one of the reasons I own a GTO today. Plus my grandpa was born there. Good job!
@StarsMarsRadio I would hope so, just a little difference in a coupe vs a sedan. I still like my Holden built GTO but the new Mustang is impressive. If I decide to give up my GTO, I would really consider the Stang. But I also like what Dodge has done with the Challenger and the new 6.4L 392ci Hemi. That thing should fly but not sure if it'll whoop a Boss 302 but it'll be closer than the 6.1 they had. And it does ride nice and perfroms well for a large car. I'm just glad we have a choice.
@knytrydr73 Have to agree with you on that. Only thing that might be more enjoyable is to put an LS2 in a 5 series BMW. People are doing it and creating one helluva ride. German tech is great while it runs and a lot of people who are mechanics can keep theri cars running for a long time. But once a BMW comes off factory warranty or maintenance...I sure wouldnt wanna pay the bills on it. Sorry, I got on a tangent. I hear where you're coming from. I want a GXP to sit next to my GTO. (Or a Ute)
@6806goats1 : I hear ya! My friend has an Audi. Thankfully he is able to do most of the mechanical work on it himself. He checked the cost of some repairs and couldn't believe it.
oooo, an LS2 in a 5 series. That I would love to see happen!
Only thing this vid proved was how stupid Americans can be..geeze. I'm from the states too and these people just make me facepalm for not nothing anything outside the country..
I don't care as long as GM is still getting the money. Can't wait for the big three(GM, Ford, Chrysler) to totally recover. Nice cars are gonna be coming out.
My only complaint would be that the steering wheel is on the left side of the car. Other than that, I'd buy the car in a heartbeat. Made in Australia, by Australians and (hopefully) tested in Australia. We desperately need cars like that in the USofA.
I am proud to be American but Americans are SO STUPID! And Buick is not being considered for the chopping block! And the Alero and Intrigue are cars that KILLED the American car. They drive like shit. Look like shit. And are shit. I'd rather walk than drive most front wheel drive GMs.
We need an all new Chevrolet Caprice SS to replace the lost Pontiac G8 GXP in the US.

The australian version SUCKS!!! I had no idea it was this bad. I personally like the US version the best, not only because i think its great but also because i'm American and i'm a bit of a patriot. The UK version is great also but i still like the US version better.

@01informer the US version IS the Australian version, you daft twat. it's the same car, just with your idiotic american crud stamps all over it. and the UK version is just the exact same thing but with Vauxhall badges. only someone with half a brain would say anything so ridiculously stupid. saying you're american just cements everyone's opinion of you. try using that bit of grey mush between your ears before you open your fat, big-toothed american grease hole

nickster1318 11 months ago
@01informer lol the US version is anything but the best. It's definitely my least favourite. UK then Aussie and the good 'ol U.S of A is at the bottom. Like almost everything else, America takes something good, removes everything that made it good in the first place until its a bland hollow shell of existence, then sells it back to it's citizens who gobble it up because it's full of patriotic bullshit. Oh our silly little neighbours to the south, I just can't help but laugh

i was in australia in 2002. right when the Monaro was king and the GTO wasn't out yet.

Australian-sold Pontiacs in the 50's and 60's were Canadian supplied cars. All Chevrolet drivetrains and underpinnings. No "wide-track" Pontiacs. Laurentians and Parisiennes, not Bonnevilles and Catalinas.
bluecollarmotormouth 1 year ago
I don't get it. They drop Pontiac but they keep Buick and other shit. No one buys fucking Buicks. They should have never stopped making Grand Ams seeing as how they were GMs most popular sports/family sedans/2doors. Fucking idiots.

It's the same thing with the Vauxhall VXR. Made in Australia with an American engine in it. I like the looks of the Vauxhall better than the Pontiac anyways. Also, the GTO is the same way, its just a Holden Monaro I believe

Kind of embarresing tbh, the fact that we have to jump up and down to the US like a anoying little brother saying " look what ive done! i can make stuff too!!"
Seriously, yeah its a nice car but why do we have to tell the yanks we built it?
Antifaith29 1 year ago
@Antifaith29 Embarrassing...ok I can understand that but it's ok with me. Your car production is a novelty to the US market and jumping up and down is the only way we'll notice. Until word of the GTO coming out I never new what a Holden was. Once I knew it was coming from Australia then I had to research it. Luckily I was in the Navy at the time and had the opportunity to check out Holden product 1st hand. That's one of the reasons I own a GTO today. Plus my grandpa was born there. Good job!

New ford 5.0 rapes that car
StarsMarsRadio 1 year ago
@StarsMarsRadio I would hope so, just a little difference in a coupe vs a sedan. I still like my Holden built GTO but the new Mustang is impressive. If I decide to give up my GTO, I would really consider the Stang. But I also like what Dodge has done with the Challenger and the new 6.4L 392ci Hemi. That thing should fly but not sure if it'll whoop a Boss 302 but it'll be closer than the 6.1 they had. And it does ride nice and perfroms well for a large car. I'm just glad we have a choice.
6806goats1 1 year ago
@6806goats1 I really like the new challenger. I love the advertising. I think it's a much cooler car.

So it's a world car! Australian styling, European handling, American Muscle! The perfect car! :D
knytrydr73 1 year ago
@knytrydr73 Have to agree with you on that. Only thing that might be more enjoyable is to put an LS2 in a 5 series BMW. People are doing it and creating one helluva ride. German tech is great while it runs and a lot of people who are mechanics can keep theri cars running for a long time. But once a BMW comes off factory warranty or maintenance...I sure wouldnt wanna pay the bills on it. Sorry, I got on a tangent. I hear where you're coming from. I want a GXP to sit next to my GTO. (Or a Ute)
6806goats1 1 year ago
@6806goats1 : I hear ya! My friend has an Audi. Thankfully he is able to do most of the mechanical work on it himself. He checked the cost of some repairs and couldn't believe it.
oooo, an LS2 in a 5 series. That I would love to see happen!

I don't care as long as GM is still getting the money. Can't wait for the big three(GM, Ford, Chrysler) to totally recover. Nice cars are gonna be coming out.
chaldochamp3 1 year ago
My only complaint would be that the steering wheel is on the left side of the car. Other than that, I'd buy the car in a heartbeat. Made in Australia, by Australians and (hopefully) tested in Australia. We desperately need cars like that in the USofA.
