This entire album relates to human dominance, if you guys have noticed the subliminal lyrics. Historically, I actually have a good idea of what this song is about--Spanish and Portugese colonization of the Amerindians. They heavily relied on Amerindian slave labor to to mine "all of the silver" and with the tongue and eyes, they treated Amerindian's as sub human and would practice weapons on them. They removed Amerindian religion (killed the sun) etc, suppressed the people, all that good stuff

I love the riff opening this song and opening the record. Perfect way to start off. I also love how they've been going all over the place with their songs. Sure, they're not as balls-to-the-wall screaming their heads off crazy, and I do miss that, but I'd rather them spread their wings and continue to experiment and make new music, thus increasing the longevity of their band because one day, Mastodon will no long be around and that'll be a sad day. This way, they'll be around longer.

There's nothing "uncommon" about this song. It's totally Mastodon like. In the key of D minor harmonic, which is understandable due to their full step down tuning, and most of the rhythm can be counted as triplets. Simple yet, DAZZLING xD

@ktrel54 I just listened to that song, it (intentionally or unintentionally) rips off a bunch of Tool riffs from Lateralus, specifically the song Parabola. At least it sounds very familiar to my ears. Those guys definitely listen to Tool. That song was okay, nothing close to Tool or Mastodon for certain.

And it's nothing to do with the fact that it's "softer" or anything (I've always liked the soft side of Mastodon) it's just that I really think some of the songs are just not that good :p But we'll see in a few weeks what we all think of this album after listening to it a hundred times
